“You’re with someone?” David seemed to slump in his seat.

“Yeah - my boyfriend is running late. Important meeting, couldn’t be put off. You know, that sort of thing.”

“Sounds like he’s just trying to get out of the wedding.”

“It’s just one of those things,” Tessa shrugged. She felt bad about lying, but there was something that wasn’t quite right about David. It was better to let him down easy.

“Well, if he doesn’t show up, could you save me a dance?”

• “Sure.” Tessa said, then stayed for the ceremony.
• “I’m not sure I can stay. I better go find out where he is.” Tessa said, then left to go get a beer.
