"Don't waste to much time pitying yourself," you say. "We have to be strong if we want to get through this."

"I get that," she says, in between drags from her cigarette. "I was just apologizing for putting us in danger."

You nod politely, then sit on the floor and get comfortable. "I'd also really appreciate it if you didn't treat me like a creep. I'm not. I'm just trying to get through this, just like you. Just like her," you say, motioning to Sam. "The last thing on my mind right now is sex."

"Yeah?" she asks, looking at you quizzically. "Because for me it's the opposite. All the tension of this life threatening situation has made me unbelievably horny." Then she smirks.

"C'mon," you say, shaking your head. You explain yourself again. You tell the girl your name, where you're from, little details about your life, your apartment, you're boring job. You offer it all as an olive branch, hoping she'll except at face value that you're just another human being trying to get through this.

She seems to loosen up a bit as you speak, listening carefully to what you have to say. She doesn't say much in return or offer any details of her own life, but by the end of your conversation, she looks as if she's accepted what you've told her as truth.

"Alright then," she says, stubbing out her cigarette. "We should get some sleep, while we can. Daylight will make things a little easier."

The train tunnel is as dark as midnight, and with only your flash light to lead the way, it's slow going. You creep along the rails, pausing at every distant noise you hear and flicking off your torch. You sit still until it's quiet again, then move on. Traveling this way is painfully slow, but within an hour you've arrived at the next station, and can see a single train car sitting at the platform.

"Looks empty," you say. "We still need to go farther, past this spot. Two more, I think."

"Maybe we should check this station to see if there's anything we can use," Claire whispers.

"I'm not sure that's a good idea, after what happened last time."

"Up to you," she says.
