Before the the calamity known as the Doom swept across Valyria, the Targaryens fled across the Narrow Sea to the lands of Westeros, settling down on the island of Dragonstone. Lord Aegon Targaryen aspired to unite the seven kingdoms under a single king, and set forth to conquer Westeros with his sister-wives, riding on the backs of dragons. He was later crowned King of the Andals, The Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.
House Targaryen is a Royal House of Westeros, Ruling over six of the seven kingdoms from their Iron Throne in King's Landing. It is now the last known House of Dragonlords, ancient families that ruled over the Valyrian Freehold, named as such for their ability to tame the infernal beasts. Many of them wedded brother to sister, in the belief that it would keep the bloodline pure.
House Targaryen's sigil is a red three-head dragon on a black field. Like many noble Houses their family words are a threat and warning against transgressors. The words themselves are short and simple, powerful in their own right. Their words are “fire and blood”
