Leaving Melanie behind you step out your front door into a scene from a nightmare. As lightning flashes through the sky, your horror grows. Abandoned cars litter the street, some still running and with doors wide open. Bodies lie across the road, on the sidewalks, and and across the lawns. You swear you can see people darting around in the shadows, and a few of the neighboring houses seem to have fires blazing through the interior despite the outside rain.

The home of your neighbors, the Parks, is an inferno with flames and smoke poring out the upper windows. Ms. Park a quiet mother of two children is splayed out on her driveway screaming and you can see two figures obscured by the smoke raping her. Your timing could not be worse for just as you exit your home four large men with open sores on their walk past your house. They immediately snarl and charge. You react quickly backing into your doorway and kicking the door into the face of the leading first man while you ready your bat to swing.

You acquit yourself well smashing in the head of one attacker and breaking the arm of a second. Their numbers overwhelm you, however, and you are taken to the ground. You feel teeth ripping at your throat as your vision fades to black..
