Wes laughs at your plan. You like to bring him along, as he is a great help on the job, but he is often too cynical. If you point it out, he says things like, "you're cynical! You are the one who is doing the graffiti everywhere to show just how cynical you are!" Things like that hurt, but what of it? This is your own passion.

"It's hardly a boat!" He says, looking at the inflatable thing you lifted. It is the size of a child, and used in pools, but you have nothing else to cross the river. "We would fall off in moments, and end up dead ten miles south."

"Not if you paddle hard enough." You say with a growl, throwing him a plank.

"And even if it made it there, how would we ever get back? The same way?"

"Don't patronize the plan if you're actually going to be a part of it."

Wes pauses a moment, then his face clears up. "Well, look, if we are going to do this, we should start higher up in the river, then, so the current can help out. Please tell me you have a swim suit?"

"Why, will I be swimming?" You say, a bit snappishly.

"It may be safer than using this thing, really. Wait, Jo, can you swim?"

"I can float if need be - that should be enough."

Wes gasps, then looks up in the air. He stares out into the river's blackness for a few moments, which tries your patience. "Well? Shall we go?"

"Yeah, a bit upstream first. The river isn't fast looking now, I tell you, but the power it has will carry you."

"Sure thing, navy scientist." You two move upstream, your bags full of paint cans. They are sealed well, and even getting them wet would not be a problem. The bigger problem is no, you do not swim well, or even own a swimsuit. There was hardly a reason - you weren't swimming, you were paddling. At least, you think so. When it came down to it, Wes was an avid swimmer. He probably even swam the river before, and knew much better than you what to do. You figure he would still help you out, either with swimming across, paddling across, or for stability and safety, having him swim and push the boat while you stay on it, paddling.
