"You two stay here," you say, picking up your flashlight. "Give me your car keys and I'll go find the boy." Mrs. Park nods, going over to a little key-rack hanging by the door. Melanie waits until she's out of ear-shot and then takes you by the arm, pulling you to her so she can whisper and be heard.
"Are you fucking nuts?" She demands. "We're sitting ducks in this house, especially with one of the freaks right upstairs. You can't just leave us here and go cavorting off to find some kid that probably isn't even alive."
Mrs. Park returns from the key rack with a set, offering them in your direction, and Melanie simply stares at you, awaiting your decision.
