With this, you manage to get her tears to stop for just a bit before it starts overflowing again. “You’re lying.”
“No, really,” you say. “I want to go home. I just can’t since the fat old man won’t let me go. But if I get help,
maybe the two of us can get out of here. Together.”
She jumps, taken aback from your attempt to offer your hand for her again. “You’re lying.”
“No, I’m…” you stop. She’s probably not going to trust another person after all she’d been through. “I’m here to help
you. You can leave me anytime if you think I’m lying. Deal?”
She examines your hand, as if there are booby-traps on it. Then finally she grabs it.
