He stumbles into Skunk and they both go down. Brute, as always, just looks confused. Moby gets up with a blazing ferocity. You stare him down, you headache starting to lighten, "Come at me, I dare you. You see, I have nothing to lose and will enjoy taking one or two of you with me. I wonder who it will be?"

Skunk takes a step back and Moby shoots him a angry glare. Turning back to you, he answers. "You don't know who you fucked with. Get use to looking over your shoulder, loner-boy." With that, he walked off with his cronnies in tow.

Jane is still sitting on the floor hugging her knees to her chest as she draws circles in the ground with her finger. With your thoughts racing, prime of which concerns why you did any of this to begin with, you help her up and to a bathroom just to be doing something. You hear the sounds of her forcing herself to throw-up followed by quite a bit of rinsing. Through it all, you are forced to realize your position. The world runs on people like Moby, but, when it counts, you could not end him. Was it weakness or just acceptance that one loser was not going to change anything? Still, in that case, why step in at all? What difference did it make?

Jane comes out and just stands at your side for a moment, maybe wondering the same things and realizing that the future might very well depend on the answers. "You didn't kill them. You really didn't mean what you said on the bus."

Exhausted, you simply reply, "I know."

Choice breeds personality. Another piece of your mother's words whispers briefly in your ear. It had been some sort of family saying from her father, who got it from his father, blah, blah. Funny that you remember it now when most of the time you can only recall the command to not kill. The importance of choice never occurs to the loner who cuts himself off from the world and moves about each day more as an observer than a player, only wanting the world to leave him alone. Of course, that fantasy is over. You have certainly become a player now, with all the choice that entails.

For her part, Jane seemed to have reached a decision and moves her hand into yours. Now, its your turn.
