The Choose Your Own Adventure system here doesn't have any mechanism for keeping track of state. You can have different paths taken by different pages, but once you arrive at a page, there is no way of knowing how you got to that page.

Because Girl Scout Camp is a series of short stories tied together in an overall framework, we sometimes need to know in one part of the story if you had been to a previous option.

We choose to use magic words to do this. When you're given a magic word, it indicates that something of significance happened. At other parts in the story, you might be asked if you know a magic word.

To make cheating slightly harder, when you are offered a choice of magic words, there will be some decoy options.
