You creep quietly past the light flickering in the undergrowth. There's not telling what danger might be lurking in the ferns. Screeching bats leave their occult caves and take flight around you. Primates chatter in the trees. It is almost completely dark now and you can't see where you're going.

You are still hungry, but the sun is setting and you need to find a safe place to sleep tonight. A tree might be nice, but the howls and screeches of monkeys are making you nervous. You limp deeper into the jungle until you see a light ahead of you in the growing darkness. The sun has completely set by now and the last rays of light are only faintly visible through the over-arching canopy. The growls, hoots, and howls of forest creatures send chills up your spine.

Your shirtless back is already starting to feel hot and painful thanks to lying in the sand and the overbearing power of the sun. You stand and retie the cord belt holding up the ragged remains of your pants. Whoever wrote that someone could survive a shipwreck fully clothed and uninjured was obviously incorrect in his assumption. This seems not like the beginning of an exciting adventure, but the beginning of a struggle for survival. You turn and head for the shade of the trees.

Mincing your way carefully up the hot sandy beach, you notice that you're barefoot. You should probably find or make some shoes soon since there's no telling what you might encounter in the jungle. You've never seen palm trees this tall before, nor have you seen trees growing this close together before. You guess you must have either come from a colder climate or an urbanized area. The dense undergrowth of ferns, mushrooms, and fallen palm fronds conceal a multitude of dangers for your unprotected feet. What do you do?

You take time to sit down and wrap your bare feet in some palm fronds in hopes the sturdy leaves might offer some protection if woven together the right way. When you are finally satisfied with your work, you move on into the jungle.

The air in the jungle is hot and moist, but cooler that the exposed sand of the beach. Foxtail palms, date palms, and banana trees spring up around you, but they are not the tallest trees in the jungle. Large broad-leafed rainforest trees form an ever green canopy above you. Ferns, violets, toadstools and birds-of-paradise are clustered thickly about the narrow trail you're now traveling on. It's likely a trail that animals use to travel to water. Water does sound good right about now. As you travel on, your stomach growls with hunger and symptoms of the early stages of dehydration appear. You wonder how long you were unconscious and how long you have been without food or water. Your makeshift shoes do provide good protection for your feet, however. You are able to travel a long way very quickly.

As the sun begins to set and the complaining of your stomach reaches a fever pitch, you stumble upon a small village in a man made clearing in the trees. There are five mud and stick huts, a little more than waist high, in a circle around a campfire. Despite the size of the huts, the people milling about in this small clearing are of average height, not much shorter than you. They have deeply tanned skin and long, dark brown hair. Several pairs of dark brown eyes turn your way as you step into the clearing in the palms. The men in the group - about ten total - leap to their feet at the sight of you, grabbing whatever weapons they have at hand. The women pull the children close to them. You freeze, uncertain what to do next.

==Laksah==
Laksah, daughter of Soonjah and wife of Chief Hunyat, is widely regarded as the most beautiful woman in the Nutsook tribe. There are many men who have entertained fantasies of stealing her away to be their wife, but no man is strong enough to face the wrath of the chief.

==History of the Test of Truth==
Laksah is also the tribe's healer and shaman. She is the one who administers the Test of Truth to newcomers to the village. The Nutsook value the truth so much because their ancestor, Nutsook, was exploring the lands east of their village and ran into a strange swamp that produced illusions and tricks of the mind. The swamp preyed on Nutsook's emotions and pride and tried to kill him. He fled the forest and survived, but the experience had shaken him to the core. He became focused on the discernment of truth and warned everyone he met about the dangers of the Swamp of Illusion. Nutsook developed a way to discern the truthfulness of a person in their mind and their heart. The Test always examines both because while a person's mind can be convinced of the truth of his lies, his heart is not easily persuaded to lie. In later years, the village was named after Nutsook and it became the responsibility of the village shaman to administer the Test of Truth to all newcomers.

Seymour Flanagan is a sailor on the sea vessel Diamond Princess. He was asked by Julia Monteagle to deliver a gold-plated pocket watch to a young man named Sebastian Turner. Seymour searched the entire ship for the young man, believing him to be a passenger, but he never found him. A storm blew over the sea and the Diamond Princess wrecked against a razor-sharp reef about a mile off the coast of Faire Isle. Almost everyone on board died. Seymour was one of the lucky few who escaped. However, he was haunted by the fact that he had been unable to complete the task given to him by Julia. He'd been certain that the message she was trying to send had been important, but now he fears they are both dead. He was very injured in the crash.

==Physical Description==
Seymour Flanagan is a dark-skinned man with dark brown eyes, a scruffy black beard, and a fairly large nose. He shaves his head and mustache area when he can, but likes his beard. At 6'5", he is the shortest in his family, but he is no less strong, both physically and mentally. He wears a navy blue sailor's uniform, but that uniform got heavily shredded in the shipwreck.

==Watoan==
This tall, skinny young warrior prides himself on being the fastest warrior in the tribe. His exact age is unknown, but it is likely that he is around the same age as Sebastian Turner, 19. His skin is a deep tan from the sun but his eyes are hazel in color. It is later revealed that Watoan was a shipwrecked cabin boy who arrived on the island five or six years ago and decided to become a member of the Nutsook tribe. His skin is the lightest, as are his eyes, indicating that he was originally fair-skinned. His dark brown hair is only a slightly lighter shade than the hair of other members of the tribe.

Watoan harbors a secret crush on Laksah, the chief's wife, but isn't foolish enough to try to act on his desire for her. He is coming to the age where he will need to pick a wife of his own, but his attraction to Laksah is starting to get in the way of his ability to choose a young girl for himself. This is part of the reason why he agrees to adventure with Sebastian/Julia. The other part of the reason is either his desire to demonstrate his knowledge of the land or his own growing attraction to Julia.

Watoan knows all the edible plants of the Faire Isle. He also is familiar with all the animals of the jungle and all the well-traveled paths to water. As much as he loves the jungle, he longs to see more of the land. He is one of few who does not believe the "Faire Isle" is an island. He believes it is a peninsula and that the mainland lies beyond the Crystal Mountains.

No matter how desperate you are, you're not willing to risk an encounter with what could possibly be just a freak wildfire or some other potential danger. You plod onward through the dark, even running into the occasional tree. Finally your sore feet can't take any more traveling and you have to sit down.

You find some sticks and brace them up against the trunk of a palm tree as a makeshift shelter. You huddle inside, shivering as the warm day turns into a chilly night. You are overcome with loneliness and despair and bemoan your fate.

Unfortunately, your moans attract a hungry tiger who creeps up on your restless attempts at sleep. It easily knocks down your pitiful shelter with one swipe of its giant paw and you are awakened by the crushing feeling of a tiger sitting on your chest. You have no weapons and no way to defend yourself so the tiger kills and eats you.

You are too tired, hungry, and sore to go on so you make yourself a bed of palm fronds under the relative protection of the large-leaf banana palm you just climbed. Unfortunately, you have no good way to keep warm as the heat of the day dissipates into a chilly night. Curled up in the fetal position, you are almost ready to nod off when a low growl brings you to sudden wakefulness. You open your eyes and find yourself nose-to-nose with the biggest tiger you've ever seen. The last thing you see is the gaping mouth of the tiger.

Scrambling over the rocky intertidal zone, you go in search of whoever was calling for help. You hear a man's voice, weaker now, call for help again. Your feet complain as you walk on the hot sand once more. The kelp is not much comfort. You spot the man in the distance, struggling to sit up. As you get closer, you can see he is wearing the same tattered sailor's uniform as the other sailors on your ship. In fact, his deep chocolate skin and black, scruffy beard look very familiar. You can't recall his name for the life of you, but you're certain you've seen him before.

Right as you reach him, the sailor collapses, too weak to move. His gentle brown eyes find yours and a flicker of recognition ignites behind them. He coughs, which makes him grimace in pain and clutch his side. You can see now how the tattered blue rags that were once this man's shirt now cling to the thick red stain that soaks his side. There is blood in his beard as well from a gash that is barely visible beneath the black hair on his face. He reaches for the gold chain of the pocket watch, dangling out of your pocket.

"I'm sorry," he gasps, wincing as he does so. "I failed you. You...asked one thing of me...and I failed. I couldn't...find Sebastian...among the passengers..." Another coughing spasm shakes the sailor's body and you bend down to try and pull him farther from the encroaching tide that is pulling at his knees. He grabs your wrist to stop you and a tear leaks out of the corner of his eye. "I failed you...Miss Julia...I..." His voice trails off as his eyes grow unfocused and vacant. Finally, they close forever.

You stumble back, horrified. You were too late to save him. You watch as the tide sweeps up around his shoulders, dragging his body off the beach and into the gently rocking arms of the sea. You finger the watch in your pocket until the pull of the tide at your ankles forces you to make a run for the jungle.

You've never seen palm trees this tall or this close together before which tells you that you're either from somewhere with a colder climate or from some urban area. You lean against one of the trunks and watch the tide come in with a sigh. What do you do now?

"Wait!" you cry, praying they understand English. "I'm not here to hurt you. I need help."

The two men continue to keep their weapons trained on you, but they seem to relax slightly. There are a few grumbled questions coming from inside the two huts closest to you and someone sticks his head out to see what's going on. He quickly ducks back inside and is soon joined at the doorway with the rest of his family who are still rubbing the sleep from their eyes.

"What are you doing here?" The guard closest to you asks.

You explain that you were shipwrecked and washed ashore on this island and that you have no memory of who you are or where you were intending to go. By the time you finish your short little tale, most everyone in the village has either come out of their huts or stuck their heads out their doorways. Though most are grumbling in a language that is foreign to you, you do hear some muttering in English.

The tallest and broadest man in the village steps forward and crosses his arms over his chest, looking down at you sternly. You are fairly certain he is the chief of the tribe.

"You are not the first," states the chief, "and you likely will not be the last. We are the Nutsook and we value honesty. I will now test you. If you are telling the truth, we will allow you to stay with us."

Someone pushes you forward into the midst of the circle of tribespeople and you realize there's no going back now. The chief does not explain the test, but motions a tall, muscular woman forward. She examines you from head to toe, checking for weapons. Then, she places her right hand on your forehead and her left hand on your heart and closes her eyes in deep concentration. You feel slightly dizzy for a moment before she moves away from you.

"He is true in heart and mind," she says, moving to stand beside the chief.

"Then he is welcome," the chief states and gives a firm nod without smiling. You breathe a sigh of relief. Excited murmuring broke out as some people translated for their neighbors what had just gone down. A family volunteered to take you in and everyone began to settle back down for the night. You learn from Watoan, a young man about your age, that the tall woman who'd tested him was Chief Hunyat's wife, Laksah. She is widely regarded as the most beautiful woman in the whole tribe. It is evident from Watoan's voice and the wistful look in his eyes that he wished he was older and Laksah was his wife. You are allowed to rest on a pile of palm fronds and ferns in the same corner of the hut as Watoan. You can't imagine that you'll be able to sleep at all because you mind is spinning and trying to answer all the questions still plaguing your mind about your identity. However, your exhausted body commands your anxious mind to sleep and in your sleep you dream...

You head toward the light, hoping against hope that you have found the help you so desperately desire. You stumble upon a small village of indigenous people, living in a patch of jungle they cleared for themselves. Their log huts are low to the ground with very slanted and thickly insulated roofs to protect the occupants from the frequents rainstorms the jungle experiences. The light you saw originated from a medium-sized fire at the center of the little circle of five huts. Two tall, sinewy men are sitting on opposite sides of the fire, guarding the little village while the rest of the village sleeps.

The men startle when they see you step out of the forest. The one with his back to you whips around with an arrow already in his bow, aiming for your heart. The other stands to his feet and aims his spear threateningly in your direction.

You don't have time to try to climb a tree, especially one without branches to hold onto. You keep going down the jungle trail. Along the way, your feet encounter the thorns of a creeping vine and several sharp rocks which make you second guess your decision to enter the forest without any foot protection. It's starting to get dark and there is still no sign of a village or any humans at all. You feel all alone in the world which triggers something of a feeling of Deja vu. You've been lonely before even if your amnesia prevents you from remembering a specific event.

Tired, hungry, and sore, you limp on. You spot a flickering light in the distance. Is it a fire or is it just a firefly or some other non-human light source?

Your stomach dictates your actions and you stop to climb the banana tree. Your feet are rubbed raw by the rough bark of the tree and your arms are tired. You reach out and tug several bananas out of the bunch and toss them to the ground. You begin to climb back down the tree, almost losing your grip several times. Right before you reach the level where it would be safe to jump to the ground, an okapi wanders out of the foliage and grabs two of your bananas in its mouth.

"Hey!" you shout. "Those are mine!"

The okapi ignores you and meanders away, tail swishing. You jump down from the banana tree and pick up the one remaining banana with a sigh. Even as you eat it, you know it won't be enough to satisfy you for long and now the sun is starting to set. The jungle grows dark quickly.

You feel a slight stinging sensation in your right foot, but you ignore it and continue. The stinging increases to become painful and your left foot starts to sting too. Looking down, you realize that you are walking over a line of leaf-cutter ants. You quickly brush the ants off your feet and walk cautiously on.

The sun droops lower in the sky and your stomach grumbles hungrily. A banana palm tree stretches above you, the first plant you have recognized as edible.

Quickly, you bend down and help the stranger to his feet. He drapes an arm across your shoulders and leans on you heavily as the two of you stumble away from the rising tide into the relative safety and shelter of the palm trees at the edge of the beach. He leans back against the tree while you examine his wounds. It seems the blood in his beard is from a shallow scratch that is barely visible through the dark fibers. It should heal quickly on its own. The more serious injury is his lacerated side.

"Coral reef," the sailor says, answering the question that is already rising to your lips. "Scraped my side pretty good comin' in." He grits his teeth in pain and clutches his side as if by sheer force of will he could keep the blood from flowing out of him like water from a cracked urn.

What should you do? What can you do? You don't have experience treating injuries like this. You don't have any poultices or bandages and this man doesn't have much time. Now that you've saved him from the incoming tide you can't just let him bleed to death. There might be a village deeper in the jungle and you might be able to find help, but do you dare try to drag along the injured man through dangerous and unfamiliar territory?

You finish tying the last few long strands of kelp around your feet and carefully make your way across the intertidal area to the other side. You hear a man's voice call for help again, weaker this time. You see him in the distance, struggling to sit up and move away from the incoming tide. You recognize the tattered blue rags he wears as the uniform of the sailors who were on your ship. In fact, his deep chocolate skin and scruffy black beard look quite familiar. As you draw closer, you see that the ragged remains of his navy blue shirt are sticking to the thick red stain that is spreading across his side. There is blood in his beard as well from a shallow gash barely visible through the hair on his chin.

You know instinctively that you can't just leave the man here on the beach. You bend down and help him up. He drapes an arm across your shoulders and leans against you. Staggering under his weight, you manage to get both of you to high ground at the edge of the tropical jungle.

You've never seen palm trees this tall or this close together before which tells you that you likely came from an urban area or an area with a much cooler climate. The sailor leans back against one of the palm trees with a groan and you examine his lacerated side.

"Coral reef," the sailor grunts in answer to your unspoken question. "Scraped up somethin' awful on the way in." He winces with the effort of speaking and closes his eyes as if in silent prayer.

You head back to the tide pools in hopes of finding the shiny object that caught your attention earlier, but there is no sign of it. The sun is burning your bare back and you know you need to take cover so you head for the trees.

You've never seen palm trees this tall or this close together before. This tells you that you must be from someplace with a cooler climate than this one or from some urban area. The shade feels cool and calming as does the wet kelp wrapped around your feet. Your stomach growls with hunger.

You scramble up the rocky intertidal zone and onto the sand on the other side of where you were before. You spot a man struggling to sit up. The tide is lapping at his ankles and he seems to be injured and too weak to get away. You can tell from his tattered clothes that he was a sailor before he washed up here. You don't remember him so you can't tell if he was from your ship or not. You were a stowaway so it is highly unlikely he would remember you or know anything about you even if he was one of the sailors on your ship. As you get closer, you see the thick red stain seeping from the man's dark skin and soaking the tattered blue rags of what had once been the man's shirt.

Just as you reach him, he collapses, panting. His deep brown eyes find yours and something like recognition sparks behind them when he catches sight of the gold chain of the pocket watch in the pocket of your pants. He coughs and points a shaky hand toward your pocket.

"I recognize... that chain," he gasps. "I was asked... to deliver it to someone named... Sebastian, but I... couldn't find..." He is interrupted by an attack of harsh coughing. The water has risen up to his knees and you grab his arms and try to pull him farther up onto the beach. He cries out in pain until you stop and let his arms down to rest gently upon the sand.

"Julia... you have to find Julia... Tell her...I failed..." The man lets out another gut-wrenching groan. His pain-filled eyes find yours again, but they grow glassy and unfocused. Finally, they close forever and the man's breath escapes his lips like a forlorn sigh. You were too late to save him and you don't even know his name.

You watch the water slowly sweep up to the sailor's shoulders,lifting his body off the sand. You back away from the swelling tide and watch as it carries away the now lifeless body to its watery grave. Fingering the pocket watch in your pocket, you wonder who Sebastian and Julia are and if they are still alive.

You can't stand on the beach forever, though. You have to move on.

You finish tying a thick layer of kelp around your feet and carefully climb down the rocks to the deeper tide pools below. The pool is filled with pink and green anemones and several slow-moving snails. It takes you a moment to find the shiny object that caught your eye and it takes even longer for you to decide to pull it out since it is guarded by a small crab. You manage to pluck it from the water without getting pinched.

The item is a small, gold-plated pocket watch. It clicks open when you press on the clasp at the top, revealing the face of the watch. There is a small circular window in the watch face through which you can see the inner gears revolving in an endless loop through time. On the inside of the cover, an inscription is engraved: From JM to ST.

This answers none of your questions, it just produces more. Are you JM or ST? Are either of these people related to you in anyway or is this just some random piece of sea treasure that just happened to wash ashore when you did? You tuck the little watch into your pant pocket anyway.

The tide is already lapping at your ankles and rising faster. The palm trees at the edge of the jungle promise shade and safety from the tides and you can easily outrun the waves. However, you remember that someone was calling for help just a few minutes ago and you should probably go and see if that person still needs help.

Thanks for the advice. When I write I tend to jot everything down then go back and correct my spelling. Usually this isn't a problem when I right on Word then transfer it over to wherever I am posting it online. Since this website is linked based and I'm kind of just throwing ideas as I go along, I plan on going back to correct spelling and grammar when I get a decent amount written through a couple of path choices.

I am still learning the site, I tried the tutorial and while it explains it well when it comes to computer terms I find it easier to experiment. I was clicking the Ab button on the tool bar to put the brackets, but I will start adding the * beforehand. Please share any other tips if you like :)

Not all of it will be tragedy. I write erotica, as well as other things, and have some of my short works for sale. It will have alot of sex and sexuality in it. Sadly, many elements come from my own life, and I was not...the most well adjusted or confident person growing up. It will just be more realistic than much of the stuff on here. You try to walk around town naked in stories on here, you just get to have lots of sex. You try to walk around town naked in real life, you will end up in a jail cell, and probably with a record for the rest of your life. I want to keep it plausible, believable. I will sketch out background stories, these will not really branch, just "Dream about x, remember y" type of thing, that will actually have elements from my real life, either in part, or whole. I will probably include me being raped, not once, but twice, but not sure if I want the character to go through it, or remember it. I will probably have how I was molested, and how that lead to the character/me that you see here. I have been beaten, and will probably include issues around that also. At the heart, my story will be a growing up story with many of my specialty writing, erotica. I already have included how I/the character, ended up on probation, and my/the characters, first time having sex. There will be more of that. Some pleasant, some horrifying. I'm not sure what you want your hidden text template to do, but I can see where it's going wrong. You're referencing hidden text within the code for the hidden text template, which is what's generating the loop error.

If you want invisible text, the easy way is to change the font color to white.

Ah, I see what you're going for. Like Platypus guessed, it sounds like a nested table with collapsible elements. Almost kinda "flowchart-y" in nature. I found the syntax for a nested table at an external wiki (Aberwiki, at their MediaWiki User's Guide: Using Tables page), but as far as collapsibility goes, there's a javascript extension/gadget that exists (Manual:Collapsible elements on the actual main Mediawiki site), but isn't implemented in CYOA's Common.js section. Like Platypus said, the markup around here is really barebones around here. I ''think'' it can be done, but it might require some playing with before it works. Sorry for the vagueness as to where the two syntax pieces I found are, it's impossible to post two external links in the same post without doing one, waiting 20 minutes, then doing the other. It's true that the site used to automatically display the number of views on every page you pulled up. It's just one of those things that stopped functioning. I'd noticed that Gunior has taken over Smutty Sex Romp 2, and despite his blurb about using proper grammar and spelling, his writing leaves much to be desired. You know something? I'm going to let him run with it. There's something about SSR that attracts an awful lot of truly awful writers. Maybe it's the fact that I only allow the well-written pages to remain undeleted. But maybe if I allow a poorly written knockoff to remain as is, unpoliced by me, the poor writers will flock there and leave the original SSR to be written by those of us who have an actual concept of grammar. You're too new to know this, but this site was originally Choose Your Own Adventure, not Create Your Own Adventure. The name had to be changed for legal purposes. The thing is, when the site moved to the new name, the files were also moved to the new name. The links in the pages ''weren't''. It wouldn't have hurt the story any to cut the file link out, but all that needed doing was updating the word 'choose' in the link to 'create' and the link was fixed.

Just so you know... If someone's posted an uncategorized page, you can click on 'what links here' over to the left and find out what the previous page in story is. Your tattered shirt covers you enough to be decent, but not enough to protect you from the overbearing power of the sun. You stand and retie the cord belt holding up the ragged remains of your pants. Whoever wrote that a kind could survive a shipwreck fully clothed and uninjured was obviously incorrect in his assumption. This seems not like the beginning of an exciting adventure, but the beginning of a struggle for survival. You finger-comb you hair out of your face with a sigh.

You decide to search the beach. Hopefully you'll find someone or something you recognize that will give you some clues about your past. The hot sand burns your bare feet and you know you'll have to find shoes or something soon. For now, kelp will have to do. As you sit on the rocky edge of a tide pool, wrapping your feet in long strands of wet kelp, something shiny catches your eye in one of the larger tide pools close to the sea. At the same time, you hear what sounds like a cry for help coming from somewhere to your right on the other side of the tide pools. What should you do? The incoming tide will soon prevent you from seeing whatever shiny object is in the tide pool below you, but the person who's calling for help might be injured or in danger. The shiny object might hold a clue to your past, but the mystery person might also jog your memory.

Your shirtless back is already starting to feel hot and painful thanks to lying in the sand and the overbearing power of the sun. You stand and retie the cord belt holding up the ragged remains of your pants. Whoever wrote that a kind could survive a shipwreck fully clothed and uninjured was obviously incorrect in his assumption. This seems not like the beginning of an exciting adventure, but the beginning of a struggle for survival.

You decide to search the beach and see if you find anyone or anything you recognize that might have washed ashore with you. The sand rubs your bare feet raw as you walk. You need to find some shoes soon, but you settle for wrapping your feet with long strands of wet kelp for now. As you sit on the edge of a rocky tide pool, wrapping your feet, you catch sight of something glittering in one of the larger pools closer to the ocean where the tide is beginning to come in. At the same time, you think you hear someone calling for help to your right. The person could be injured or in danger, but the shiny object might be a clue to your past. The area where you're sitting will soon be covered by the rising tide.

Mincing your way carefully up the hot sandy beach, you notice that you're barefoot. You should probably find or make some shoes soon since there's no telling what you might encounter in the jungle. You've never seen palm trees this tall before, nor have you seen trees growing this close together before. You guess you must have either come from a colder climate or an urbanized area. The dense undergrowth of ferns, mushrooms, and fallen palm fronds conceal a multitude of dangers for your unprotected feet. What do you do?
