You are quite sure this thing is going to blow so you pick up your pokeball and run as quickly as you can pushing people over in your attempt to save yourself. You would have tried to help them too but your panicked brain deduced that by the time you yelled it would be to late for anyone to get out alive so you ran and left them behind. You were right...it was to late to save them and yourself....before you could even make it to the door the explosion caught up to you and...well...your adventure has definitely come to an end. Maybe that will teach you not to go around pressing random buttons. Right?

Your quite sure now that this thing is going to blow so you scream as loudly as you can "TAKE COVER IT'S GOING TO BLOW!!!" Taking your own advice you quickly thrust your body behind a countered island and have just enough time to enclose yourself in one of the cabinets before it blows. Sadly you didn't get far enough away from the machine that has effectively blown a crater in a whole city block. Great job Einstein....seems your adventure has ended.

"I'll Take it!" you say holding out a hand eagerly. He looks at you for a moment longer, his stare making you feel rather awkward then slowly he hands you the pokeball.

"Now you have to promise me that you take very good care of this Pokemon" he says a slight amount of worry in his voice.

"oh I will!" you exclaim holding the ball closely to your chest and looking down at it lovingly.

"good" he replies his hand landing on your shoulder in a congratulations pat. After a few moments you realize you've been standing there cradling the ball to your chest a bit longer than you would have liked.

Finally the professor returns after what seems like forever.

"Thanks for waiting" he says a little out of breath...seems like he has spent the whole time running around doing something. "Sorry it took so long...The fridge was out of berries so I had to go pick some more out back."

"Not a problem professor" you say halfheartedly for it was a long and boring wait.

"Well here you are" he says as he hands you a small bundle of items. "This" he explains pointing to a small green box. "is full of berries that will fill up your Pokemon's bellies and perk them up if they are hurt. And this" He continues gesturing towards a couple of bottles. "are potions. They heal a hurt or sick Pokemon. Depending on how old a Pokemon is and how much experience it has lower doses may not have much effect." He pause a moment to make sure you understand.

"I get it." you say picking up a bottle to examine it. Putting it back down you pick up something that looks like a mini pokeball.

"Good. Now those are empty pokeballs." Oak says noticing your slightly confused gaze. "You can catch weakened Pokemon with them."

"why are they so small?" you ask still looking over the little balls.

"They are compact so you can carry a lot of them in a small amount of space, may I see?" putting his hand out so you can place the ball in it he continues "You press the release button here and they get bigger see." Just as he says the ball grows to normal size. "You start out with five of them but don't worry you can always buy more from the store."

"Oh thank you but I really have to get going before dark." you say eager to get on the road. You gather up everything in your arms rather awkwardly.

"Wait" he calls as you make your way to the door "You forgot your bag and your pokedex!" he exclaims pulling out a green and tan bag along with a plastic red slate. "You didn't expect to carry all of that in your arms did you?" he asks laughing lightly at your stupidity.

"Oh yeah...thanks" you say blushing brightly.

"would you like me to explain how that works?" he asks as you snatch the items from his grasp.

"No no professor I really must be going..." you say stuffing your things quickly into your bag to find that it already contained a spare change of clothing and lots and lots of underwear......some creepy person must have put them there...or your mom...she was always worried about...things.

"Okay!" he says cheerfully as you open the door and scramble out. "be sure to thank your mother for those other items in your bag and have a wonderful adventure!" he calls after you as you run down the road headed for rout 1.

After a few moments of walking you find yourself at a cross road...one way allows you to head on a well warn path into the forest. The other heads of toward the next town.

You've always found your self to be curiously reckless and why should today be any different? Taking a look around you notice some buzzing machines and being who you are you just want to play with them. Stepping cautiously over to the fist one you see an assortment of buttons. "Buttons" you hum to yourself excitedly, you've always been one to be amazed by the smallest interactive things. As you look them over contemplating which to press first you find your eyes land on a big red button about the size of your hand and you can't resist pushing it so you do.

Much to your disappointment it appears nothing has happened. "Maybe you have to press more buttons" you think out loud "it couldn't really hurt..." You can't resist and your fingers fly over the rest of the multicolored things pressing them in random and nonsensical patterns. This time your efforts do pay off as the machine whirls and displays letters you do not recognize on the small screen. You find something that you take to be the enter key and press it with the dramatic mad scientist's laugh. A bright light fills the room as the machine hums wildly now, buzzing and smoking. You probably shouldn't have done that.

Looking up quickly you ask if you can let your new Pokemon out right here right now. Laughing deeply oak assured you that it would be perfectly fine if you let the Eevee out so you do. Quickly taking the ball from your chest you try to pull it apart without much success before you realize that you have to push the button to get it to unlatch. The ball pops open with a flashing light and it reveals a small fluffy brown fur ball curled up on the tiled floor fast asleep.

"Eevee" you coo softly "I'm going to be your trainer, I hope we have lots of adventures together." The Eevee only moves to curl more tightly into it's tail. You feel some of your excitement leave you.

"Thats normal" oak replies to your questioning and slightly disappointed gaze. "It's just a baby"

"Oh" you mumble disappointment clearly showing now. Noticing the extreme drop in your enthusiasm Oak laughs kindheartedly.

"You know what wakes me up in the morning?" says one of the unnamed lab assistants that you constantly see wondering around. "food" he responded without prompting.

"Yes, maybe you should get Eevee something to eat." Oak agrees.

"Okay." you say quickly, eagerness slightly restored "What do they eat?"

"Pokemon eat a number of things depending on what type they are but most all Pokemon love berries." He responds quickly. "We should be able to find some out back, my lab includes a little bit of forest, you should head on out there and leave you're Eevee here to rest. Don't worry I'll take good care of it while your gone. In-fact it's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of studying an Eevee and I would like to take some quick measurements also I'd like time to get together a little starter pack for you."

"But that only because I'm on my lunch break" he says in an attempt to cheer you up "Before lunch though I was working on a machine that allows Pokemon to talk."

"Sure!" He replies seemingly happy to know that someone was taking interest in his work. "But I must warn you it isn't quite done yet" he adds quickly in an attempt to not let your hopes get to high.
"okay" you follow him over to a work desk with tones of gears an wires splayed all over it. He pushes a pile of the small mechanisms aside taking out a curvy orange and white machine.
"This allows Pokemon, or will allow Pokemon, to speak, but like I said, it's not quite done yet." He explains and you can tell he is a bit self-conscious about his work.
"What exactly do you mean by 'it's not quite done yet'?" you ask.
"Well..." he starts obviously nervous about his presentation even if he is only presenting it to you. "So far it has only be successful on ghost types." "we are still trying to figure out why." he added quickly.
"Ghost types..." you say absently echoing his statement.
"Yes" his eyes drop to the floor but only for a second and then he cheerfully looks back up. "oo...I do have another invention that I have been working on!" He exclaims excitedly taking a moment to put away the other one. "Oh wait...you probably want to get going....sorry for holding you up with my silly inventions.."
