Pokemon: Get in the lab already!

You shake off any and all nerves that you had. You take a deep breath. "Here we go Ryan. This is it."

You open the door to the lab, and walk inside. You can hear machines of all kinds whirling around, and Professor Oak's voice from inside the lab. You walk closer and closer to the sound of his voice. It seems that he is video chatting with someone. Eventually, you find him in a back room somewhere, and you knock on the door frame. He jumps a little, before turning around. '''"Ah, Ryan, you've finally arrived. How wonderful!"''' He turns back to his computer and says a quick couple of words, before ending the video call and turning to you. '''"How are you Ryan?"'''

The longer you look at the Professor, the more his words start to take shape. He is absolutely right. He is getting old. You remember being eight years old, meeting him for the first time at a parade in town. He looked much younger then. Now, his hair was completely grey, and he was balding. He had many more wrinkles than he had years ago. He even moved with a slower, older, gait than before. But his eyes were still as young as the day he first discovered the wonders Pokémon. Not that you know how he looked, you only met him eight years ago. Half your life ago. You've known the Professor for half your life.

You remember being 10 and coming the the lab to watch him give Pokémon to your friends when they turned 10, and desperately wanting one, but not being able to have one.

You remember being 12 and helping out at the lab, doing odd jobs for the Professor when his intern was out.

You remember being 13 and helping the Professor clear snow from all the Pokémon habitats after the biggest snowstorm of that decade.

You remember being 15 and signing on as an intern, full-time, without your parent's knowledge.

And now, here you are, 16 years old, getting to chose your Pokémon partner.

'''"I'm sure you would like to skip the formalities and start the process to getting your Pokémon."''' Oak says. You nod, smiling. '''"Well, you know that Pokémon are special creatures. You've spent years learning about Pokemon. You know how to use Pokéballs. So, this is the most important question of your life. Which Pokémon do you want?"''' Oak holds out three Pokéballs, each one containing a Pokémon. Now, you must chose.

You yawn, as you slowly wake up. Outside, you can hear the Pidgeys singing. It must be very early in the morning, because, while it is light outside, you cannot see the sun over the mountains. You open your eyes and glance at the calendar on your wall, and suddenly, as you realize what day it is, you feel your heart pumping 5 times harder. Yesterday was your 16th birthday. And today, on the first full day of 16, you are ready to start your very own Pokémon journey. Yeah, yeah, you are aware that you are starting your journey a couple years late... okay like, 6 years late. But that's not your fault, that one is all on your parents. But you're a persistent boy, which isn't surprising considering your parents are as persistent as you. That's definitely where you get your persistence, from your father (who was persistently telling you that you could not adventure on your own until you were of age) and from your mother (who was persistently telling you that you shouldn't give up). This all led to today, you, adventuring on your own 2 years before coming of age ("haha, suck it dad. Just kidding, love you old man.") You. Ryan Yoshizumi, finally going out on your own.

You sit in bed for a couple minutes, just thinking about all the grand adventures you were about to have. Would it be hard? Yes. Would you miss your home, your family, your friends? Heck yes. Would it all be worth it in the end? Definitely.

Your alarm clock rings at 7. It's strange to think that this is the last time your alarm is going to ring in the morning. This is the last time that you are going to hear the familiar chimes it sends out to wake you up. This is the last time you're going to roll out of your bed. The last time you're going to make it. The last time you're going to shower in the shower you've always know, the last time you're going to get dressed, the last time you're going to look at your room. (''At least, until I come back.'') You take one last glance at the room that you have always known before flipping the light and closing the door. After a moment, the door opens, and you come running inside, grabbing your backpack, and then closing the door.

In the kitchen, your mother has made you one last good-bye breakfast, eggs, bacon, and hash browns... her favorite. Not yours. Weird. She's sipping coffee in a cup and reading the newspaper. You think it's weird that this is the last time that you're going to see her do that, even though you've seen it happen endlessly for about 5,000 days now. "Ryan, eat some breakfast," she tells you without looking up. You do as your told. Obviously, your father has already left for work, but that doesn't surprise you. He lost this battle, and while he loves you, he couldn't manage to see his son off with his tail between his legs.

Finally, after you wash your plate, it's 8 o'clock. Your mother looks at you. You can see that she's holding back tears. "Ryan... where do I even start. You're my baby-"

"Mom-" you try interrupting, but she just interrupts you right back.

"Let me finish, Ryan." She takes a breath. You say nothing. "You are my baby. When I gave birth to you 16 years ago, I was so overjoyed. You bring me joy Ryan. I want you to know that. You're my blonde haired, blue-eyed baby, and I'm going to be proud of you no matter what you do out there, Ryan. Always know that." It made you a bit uncomfortable that she was calling you baby when you outgrew her by 5 inches three years ago.

You say what she couldn't say, "I love you too Mom."

As you walk away, you're slightly worried that she will forget about you. No... no that's not it. You're worried she will replace you with someone or something else. And that's when you realize that you have an overactive imagination, and that something like that would never happen. At least, not with your mom. Your father is a completely different story.

It's very nice outside today. The sky is wonderfully blue. You're sure that it means good luck on your journey. Now, if it was raining, that would mean that something was out of wack. But not today. Today is perfect, you are perfect, it is perfect.

Most roads in Kanto are still dirt with hilly embankments on either side, and you are perfectly fine with that. A light dust trail follows you on your pathway. In the trees surrounding the path, there are numerous bird Pokémon flying around, making noise and doing their own thing. One day, maybe one of these Pokémon might belong to you. You smile at the thought. Eventually, you pass a small pond. You stop to glance at your reflection. A 5'7", 16 year old, blond haired, blue-eyed kid smiles at you. Essentially, ''you'' are smiling at you. Sometimes you couldn't even recognize yourself, you're so unconvinced that you are no longer a 12 year old wannabe. You can't really remember growing up so quickly. You take a breath and walk away from the pond, finally seeing the lab in the distance.

Pokemon: Stop and train

You decide catching Pokémon can wait. No matter how many Pokémon you have, they all have to be in top notch shape! You set up dodging practice. FireStorm VS Raincloud. You have them practice dodging each other's Ember and ThunderShock, taking turns attacking and avoiding. You get a handful of pebbles and toss them at scout. It turns out she is very fast and agile. She blocks some with her tail, and dodges many. According to the Pokédex, you find out, Sentret have incredible senses of sight, and a type of sixth sense thing where they just kind of sense danger and stuff. That must be why Scout is so good at dodging. Then you have strength practice. Kind of like wrestling. Of course, Pokémon have official attacks, but you can be as creative as you want with physical attacks. Almost any Pokémon, for example, can use Tackle. But the ones labeled with the attack are the Pokémon who's natural instinct is to charge head on. Raincloud is the worst at wrestling. She's a bit top heavy, with a big head and tiny body. Storm can stand his ground, but he's also pretty small, and his natural instinct is to curl up in a ball. Sentret is an average wrestler, being a normal type and all. After about an hour of training by the side of the road, including teaching Sentret Defense Curl and them all sparring each other and running laps and all sorts of stuff, you decide to move on. You are quite satisfied with the level advancement.

Pokemon: Journey to Violet City

You walk along the path through the hills to violet city. Cloud on your left shoulder, you can feel her buzzing with excitement, and Stormy on your right shoulder, all heated up. Scout is ahead, well, scouting. You feel like the scene needs something. It's time to catch a Pokémon.

On your right is a thin strip of woods. On your left is the edge of a cliff with trees on top. Ahead of you is a cliff, the only way around it being a grassy field. But right now, you're on a path, with a few more minutes of walking to do. Your Pokémon could use some training, especially Scout!

Pokemon: Offer to try to find the cure with Pichu

"Let's go save your friend!" Pichu nods approvingly. You notice how her ears are kind of curved like bananas, and she has little furs on the side of her head, like a raccoon. She's so cute!

Pichu leads you to a small pond nearby. You're not sure if this would qualify.... but you decide to look around. The plant is a murky green with speckled leaves. It would blend right in... and than you hear a cry. "Sentret!" Scar hops down from your shoulder and scurries over to a crack in the rocks. "Oh, your the best, Scar! I would have never seen that!" Scar flinches, looking down at it's scars. You gingerly pluck some leaves form the plant,unsure of how much is needed. Does Scar not like her name? it doesn't really suit her. "You know, Sentret, how would you like to be called Scout in stead, since you always find things for me?" Scout yelps an exited cry. "Well, I guess that settles it!"

You trudge back to the cave with the Pichu, who seems in quite a hurry, but you're going as fast as you can! It's late afternoon by now. You've been in the woods for quite a while! When you get back to the cave, you squeeze in. At first the Chu's are alarmed by your presence, but Pichu reassures them you're OK.

"Here Raichu," you say in your kindest voice. You've always loved Raichu. Small, but powerful, majestic and brave, and awfully cute. You've always, in fact, dreamed of owning one some day. This one, however, doesn't look brave or strong. It's weak and thin. It is shivering, even though it's not too cold out. And you can hear it sneezing.
"Rai-chu!!!" it says, instead of achoo! You mash the leaves into a paste along with some Oran berries. Raichu needs them more than you do! You use a stick and a big leaf to put the paste on. And you manage to coax it down Raichu's throat (after much struggle, you might add), finally, it gets to sleep.

The whole cave is buzzing with excitement. You can feel it penetrating the air around you. You reassure them it was no biggie, walk out glad to have helped. But there's one thing your not totally satisfied with. Oh well, if only--"
"Piiii" you hear behind you. You turn around, seeing Pichu. "You wanna come with me?" you ask hopefully. Pichu nods her head. You do a mental happy dance and hold out a Pokéball for Pichu. In order for you to officially capture her, she needs to go inside at least once. She holds up her head and as it connects with the ball. Escaping a Pokéball is a willpower thing. That is why you typically have to weaken a Pokémon before a capture. But if a Pokémon lets you capture her, than there is no trouble. Her aura is a grey misty color, like a, a...

"Raincloud." A smile plays across your lips.

"FireStorm, Raincloud, Scout. Lets head to Violet city."

"Sen! Sentret."

"Oh yeah... I have to return the Hyper Potion...." (Face palm). So you head back to the Pokémart.

"Well little lady, I just remembered I had a shipment of Hyper Potions very recently. Plus I cannot sell that bottle. It's cracked! You may as well keep it."

"Thanks mister...."

"Zee." I am actually the owner of the whole Pokémart chain. I am impressed with your going after that Pichu all by yourself."

"Oh, thank you!"

And so ends another chapter. As you FINALLY head to Violet city.

Pokemon: Explore the town

You decide, if you're going to be a trainer for life, you might as well stop and smell the roses. Maybe get some training done. But first, you eat lunch. You're starving! You walk out of the center with your two Pokémon. Looking around, you spot a tall white building. That must be where the mayor lives. The Pokémart is across the street. You decide to head over there. As you get closer, you hear shouting inside, and Pokémon cries, and a dude cussing. All of a sudden, a flash of yellow runs by your feet. It's a Pichu! And it's carrying a Hyper Potion in it's mouth.
"Stop that thief." the guy runs out after it. "Do you know how expensive those are?" he demands, bewildered.
"I got it!" you assure him, running after the Pichu. This could be a great chance to capture a Pokémon! But you can't help wondering why on earth it would want a hyper potion. They are orange vials of liquid used for recovering very sick or hurt Pokémon. Particularly large ones.
You run after it, but it is getting away from you, running down the street.
"Alright scar, come on out!" You release scar onto your shoulder. With it's eyesight, it can show you which direction to go.
You run for the next few minutes, and then Pichu stops outside of the forest. It obviously doesn't know you're following it, and needs a break. You take this as a perfect opportunity, and creep towards Pichu as slowly as possible. All of a sudden it's ears prick up, and it scurries into the trees. Who knew Pichu had such good hearing? You're about to chase after it but realize it's no use.
"Wait Pichu! I wanna help you!"
You chase after it into the woods. And start to get a weird feeling. Your senses seem to sharpen. You're aware of every detail around you. You can here the footsteps of Pichu scurrying in the distance. But where....?
"There!" you point out to your Pokémon. There are a few quivering leaves that mark the bush Pichu just ran through. You squeeze in after it, your Pokémon trodding silently behind you.

As you trod along, getting by with the footsteps in the soft dirt you gleefully discovered after squeezing through the bush, you wonder why Pichu would need the medicine in the first place? Was it's friend in trouble?" If so, you hope you can help.
The footsteps lead to a small cave. More like a crack in the edge of the boulder. You pop your head in quickly, and are heart broken at what you find.
That brave Pichu nuzzling the potion at a sick Raichu. The Raichu is laying flat on it's back. With Pikachu and Pichu crowded around. They are all chanting with cries of "Chu!" But the Raichu refuses to drink. You pop your head out. and take out your Dex.
Some info comes up. This Raichu, a very big one at that, is sick with a type of Pokémon flu of sorts. Apparently the only cure is a plant that grows by bodies of water. But it is very rare. The Pichu from before peeks it's head out, holding the potion. It sees you, and is at first scared.
"It's okay sweetie!" you reassure the creature before it can run into the cave. It hands the potion to you. "You want me to return this to the village?" Pichu nods her head. Whoa, you knew the 'Chu' evolution chain were smart Pokémon, but can this one actually understand human speech??? Your Dex scans it. It is a female level 7. You show her the picture of the healing plant and she seems to understand.

You sigh, but decide to do what you're certain the right thing is.

But before you can say anything, gives a command to Heracross. It's too late. Heracross has been Biding his energy, and is now charging at poor Storm, white light forming a ball of energy between his horns!"
"STORM!"
The next few thing seem to happen in slow motion. You running towards Storm. Storm erupting into a blaze of blue fire, shooting blue flaming coals at Heracross. Semi's face as he watches from the side lines. Heracross collapsing, his ball of energy exploding.

"And the winner is Forest!" Says Ben, surprised.

You are astonished.

"That was your Cyndaquil's Blaze ability." Thalia says. It boosts its fire power tremendously when faced with a seemingly hopeless situation. You already know that, but it's cool seeing it firsthand. And the blue flames are pretty cool. Plus, Cyndaquil can now light its back on fire!

The next few minutes are a blur. You all exchange phone numbers, and say goodbye.

You congratulate Storm, and tell him how you would have surrendered. But now you're really glad you didn't. You just want him to know you'll never force him to battle. But Storm likes to battle. He wants to make you proud!
By the time you've healed up Storm it's almost lunchtime. And you never did eat breakfast! Your ready for a day on the town... Or you could get going onto Violet city.

Pokemon: Try Ember

This time, when you command it, a small piece of flaming coal comes out of Storm's mouth. "You did it!" You say but then realize that Heracross has dodged it by fluttering a foot off the ground.

"Heracross!" commands Semi "Use Fury Attack!"
Storm dodges the first blow, but then he gets hit by Heracross's claws.
After about three hits, you scream, "No!" You tell Storm to use Ember, and even on its back, with a Heracross standing over him, Storm lets out a burning coal.

It Hit's Heracross and it yowls in pain, letting go. However, it just makes it more furious. Though Storm has jumped up, Heracross is more furious.

Poor little Storm looks exhausted. Determined, as always, but it's obvious he's no match for Heracross. You've already pushed him beyond his limit. But he's not going to give up, not unless you reassure him its the right thing. You see the expression in his eyes. If you surrendered, it would be the best for him. But a good trainer never gives up! Than again, a good trainer always thinks of her Pokémon first...

You take a deep breath, looking at Storm. Decision time:

Pokemon: Use Storm

You decide you want to win this battle. You bring out Storm's Pokéball.
"The winner will receive ten dollars!" Benjamin yells.
(Semi is Pronounced SEM/I Not Not SEM-EE, by the way.)

Storm emerges with his cerulean blue aura, Semi's Pokémon has a grayish black aura with a hint of green. Auras commonly reflect the element of the Pokémon species, but also, they can reflect the unique personality and traits of each individual Pokémon.

It's a Heracross!

"Heracross!" It shouts a battle cry
"Cyndaquil!" FireStorm taunts back.

Benjamin and his sister are staring intently at the match.
You start the battle off with a Smokescreen.

"Heracross!" the big Pokémon protests, coughing through the smoke.

"Heracross, use Horn Attack!

Heracross comes charging out of the smoke and crashing into Storm before he can start to get dizzy from the smoke. Storm partially avoids the attack, so the horn does not pierce his skin. But Heracross's head still slams into FireStorm, and he goes sailing into you.

"Cyndaquil!!!" Storm gets up, angered and charges toward Heracross.
"Stop!" You tell Storm. He obediently skids to a stops and scurries back toward you.
"Charging forward won't do anything.." You think. "If it's brute strength were talking about, it has the extreme advantage...."

"Storm, you're about the right level to start using fire.... USE EMBER ATTACK!" Storm opens it's mouth and screams....a single spark flies out and he coughs.

You shake your head and then roll your eyes but say, "Nice try...."

"I'm getting tired of this!" Semi groans. "Heracross, Tackle!"
Storm is ready this time, and though Heracross is bigger, but it is like a tank. Charging forward but not agile enough, so Storm dodges for awhile. This goes on, and in a few minutes, both Pokémon are panting.

You wonder if you should try Ember once more. The dodging might have been enough experience to become level 9!

You guys walk to the back of the Pokémon center.
"Hey, Thalia!" Benjamin calls over his shoulder tot he older girl. "You want to watch the battle?"
Thalia checks her watch, and follows you and Semi and Benjamin through the door.
Benjamin refs it.
"Each side will use....umm---"
"One!" suggests Semi.
"Sure!" You agree.

You wonder which Pokémon to use. If you want to win, you should use Storm, but Scar could use some leveling up...A lot..."

Pokemon: Switch out FireStorm

You return FireStorm to his Pokeéball.
Then you send out Scar, who has a bright white light when she is released.

You worry that it won't listen. You command it to use a Scratch attack, and Sentret OBEYS (it must be either really smart, or....) but Wooper whips its tail cutely, and Sentret lets her guard down. So when the scratch attack hits, Wooper Water Guns Scar away.
The jet of water isn't sharp or pressurized. This kid is a rookie like you, and Scar takes the attack, shaking the water from her fur.
She is very weak though. That Tail Whip lowered her defense...
You just need to weaken Wooper however, so Storm can finish it.
Scar is commanded to run up for another Scratch.

"Now Wooper," Benjamin continues commanding, "Water Gun."

This time as Scar's sharp claws hit their mark, Wooper sends it flying from a close range water gun.
Sentret is looking bad. It tries to get up but is very tired.
Wooper stands over it, ready for another Water Gun, so you cannot switch out.
"I surrender!" you say, returning Scar.
It had done it's job. Now Sentret is out of the battle for good. But Wooper winces from the scratches on it's face.

"Go, FireStorm!" you say, releasing the fire mouse. "Alright Storm, be careful."

"This time I'll attack! Wooper run up to it and use Water Gun!"

"Dodge it, Storm!" Cyndaquil manages to dodge it the first time, causing you to get sprayed instead! But on the bright side, Wooper wasted a lot of energy. How much water does it have stored in it?

Then you realize something.
Last time you checked the Pokédex Storm was level 6. And now it's probably level seven form beating Spearow.

It's worth a shot.

"Cyndaquil, use Smokescreen!"

Storm looks confused for about a split second. Then it opes it's mouth, and a whirl of black smoke is released into Wooper's face, who was trying to Water Gun Storm.

Now you have a strategy.

You wait till the smoke fades, then Tackle Wooper.

The Smokescreen does not only temporarily blind an opponent's Pokémon for afterwards, but while they're in it, coughing, the Pokémon's vision is blurred. Therefor, it is really hard, even with Benjamin's help, for Wooper to see or figure out what position Storm is in. So you see Wooper before it sees Storm.
You repeat this process until Wooper is dizzy and hurt, but Benjamin doesn't give up.
"We can do it! Water Gun!"
The aim is totally off, but you admire his courage, as you finish Wooper off with a Tackle.
Benjamin looks heart-broken, but you congratulate him.
Your Pokémon are Ok, but you and Benjamin both get them checked up anyway. Benjamin starts talking.
"Well, you couldn't beat my sister! She's that older girl over there!"

The older girl. Yes.

"What rank is she?"

"Shes a Junior!"

"Wow!"

"All the ranks are: Rookie Trainer, Trainer, Junior Trainer, Senior Trainer, and, Master trainer. Oh, and Grand Master trainer, which only one trainer in the world can have the title of at a time."

"I know," you reply.

You were planning to battle her, but if she is a junior, her Pokémon are probably about level 30+!

"What about him?" you ask, pointing to the serious looking boy about your age.

"Oh him? Benjamin asks.
Umm, he's my sisters friend. Not boyfriend. He is 14. Shes 16. He's a regular Trainer already. Even though he just started. You should battle him!"

Pokemon: Start the battle with Cyndaquil

You decide for your first official battle, not including with Lee, you want to start with FireStorm.
He takes out a Pokéball too.

"1, 2, 3, go!"

You see the two Pokémon forming. Your light is blue, while his Pokémon's forming light is Red!

It's a Spearow, a bird Pokemon!

Spearow starts off with a Peck.
Storm takes the hit, but Tackles under your command as Spearow tries to fly away, pinning it to the ground!
Spearow Leers at Storm, even though it isn't really in a position to sneer. You command Storm to Leer back worse!

You know that a well trained Cyndaquil's back lights on fire in battle, but you'll have to work on that.....
Now you're just stuck. Your holding Spearow down, but how can you Tackle it?

"Ha ha!" Even when I'm in the worse position, I, Benjamin prevail!"

"Actually, you don't have to use an official attack," you realize.
"Storm, bite it!"
Storm has little baby fangs, and bites down on Spearow's neck, harder and harder.
"Ok, I surrender!" Benjamin admits, returning Spearow by pointing his poke ball at it, and holding down the white button. He can't switch out while the opponent is in the upper hand position. It's against the rules. So he has to surrender before Spearow gets very hurt.

Spearow is now out of the battle for good. "A good trainer knows when to surrender, before there Pokémon gets seriously injured....or worse. Good job Benjamin!"

"What's YOUR name?" he asks you.

"Forest. Now whats your next Pokémon?"

"This is my bestest partner, that no one can beat!" he says in a little kid voice that makes you feel a twinge of pity for him. But you HAVE to try your hardest!

"Go, Wooper!"

No! A water Pokémon. Bad news for a fire type like Storm. Even worse, a fire/ground Pokémon! Storm is double weak!

You can't switch out if your opponent has you in a bad position, so you should switch Firestorm out NOW and save him for later.
But then again, maybe you should just take you chances and use Scar for backup?

Pokemon: Attack the Pidgey

You pull out that "Blue Emerald" dagger from your belt, kick off your roller blades (which you had been wearing), and charge into battle.
You throw yourself in front of the Sentret, the foot long blade in front of you for protection, as the Pidgey comes down for another swoop. It turns out of the way just in time to avoid getting sliced. "Leave the Sentret alone!" you command. The Pidgey, it's wings still in the air, blinks once. then it's eyes glow red. It let's out a shrill noise you didn't know Pidgey were capable of making. Then it's dives right at you!

You slash at it, but the blade bounces off as it the bird were...made of metal.
You wildly slash at the Pidgey as it attacks the Sentret, who is now covered with scratches. You can always release it later, but the only way to save the poor Sentret now is to capture it.
For the split second you reach in to your bag, the Pidgey scratches you right in the face, several times. You let out a scream, but manage to fish out one of the silky Pokéballs. You throw it on the Sentret as blood clogs your vision. The last thing you remember is hearing a battle cry of...."QUIL!!!" and seeing flaming coals shoot from out of nowhere

You wake up to silence.
You try to sit up and your head pounds. You reach up to touch under you right eye to find the warm thick feeling of blood. You start to panic. How much did you loose. And...and where is Cyndaquil.
Then you hear a sound behind you."Cynda?"

Cyndaquil has a mouth full of leaves. You feel your cut again, and realize it is bandaged with leaves.
You look around. There is a Poke Ball to your right. Aahh! The Sentret. You clip it onto your belt. It is very weak and hurt. And so are you.

"Cyndaquil!" I don't know what to say. I-"
Cyndaquil walks over proudly to the Pidgey. But it isn't a Pidgey. It is s robot. There is smoking holes in the metal, and the paint is chipping.

All of a sudden, someone walks out form behind a tree.
"I cannot believe you defeated my Pidbot!"

"What?" You say drearily.

"Sorry you got hurt, but I don't make my Pokébots to fight humans! Either way I've done all I can. Here's some berries."
It's a boy with hair that is silver blondish. He has blue eyes, and a mouth that looks like he thinks something is funny, even though it is obvious he is genuinely sorry.

"Who-who are you?"

"I'm a trainer like you. Difference is, I make my Pokémon. Not catch them. But I have programmed them to be trained, and get experience in battle and Pokémon who defeat them get experience in battle. It's really cool. What's your name?"

"Forest." You decide telling him your first name wont hurt.
"Your Cyndaquil was awesome. It came through at the last second. Blasted a flaming attack at Pidbot! I think it was a really good version of Ember."

"Ember? but the Pokédex said it didn't know that yet. And I haven't trained Cyndaquil since then.
You check the Pokédex, but it says that Cyndaquil still doesn't know Ember attack. Then you notice his ability.
"Blaze: Boosts, or can even produce, fire, in danger. That's what it was!" It's ability caused it to use fire when in danger!"

Cyndaquil looks proud. It walks over to you, and you pick it up into your lap and pet it. "Thank you Cyndaquil!" You whisper.

"It was like a fire storm!" continues the boy.
"That's it!" you decide. "I'll name you FireStorm, Cyndaquil!"
Cyndaquil smiles.
"Yeah well, I'll be taking this now." He picks up the smoldering Pidbot. "I helped Cyndaquil bandage your cut. You were only out for a minute. But I really must be going."
"Wait," you call as he runs off into the trees.
"What's your name?"
"Lee Nightslasher."
He calls off into the distance.
You have real bandages in your bag, which you quickly apply. Good thing mom made you bring the first aid kit. You think about relaxing and calling someone. Although your head is pounding from loss of blood, even though it was only for a minute that you bleed. You will have to wait. You must keep going, it isn't far to Cherrygrove.
But when you try to stand up, within getting an inch off the ground, your head pounds.
Storm has fallen asleep in your lap. You look at your watch. It's nearing nighttime, and you still haven't eaten lunch.
You take your backpack, and pull out a power bar. You don't eat the berries, because you don't trust this, "Lee Nightslasher." He let his metal Pidgey hurt you, then ran off!
You wonder what you should feed FireStorm?
You slice up an Apple with your dagger, and share with Storm, now woken up, who likes it.
"Quil, Cyndaquil!" it says happily.
You are in the middle of the pathway to Cherrygrove, so decide to rest against a tree. FireStorm helps you move your roller blades and backpack. Your trainer bag is separate and contains all of your trainer supplies. Your dagger has been put back in your bag.
Then you fall asleep under the shade of a tree, thinking, "Just a short nap."

You feel power seeping into you from all directions. Like cool wind but it moves slowly and sends WARM feelings up your body, even though it is cold. You hear noises in the distance, but you cannot tell if it is laughing or screaming!
Then you yell a battle cry and run towards the noises, only to find that you are near a cliff. You loose you footing, although you try to pull back at the last second. And scream as you wait for the impact of the rocks.

As you fall you feel that power surging through you. Your eyes are closed but it feels like icy flames are lapping at your face. Then when you are about to hit the ground, a tree cushions you. You breath a sigh of relief from within it's branches.

You hear steady breathing at your feet. You open your eyes to find FireStorm.

You feel your cut which is healing up steadily, and isn't bleeding anymore. In fact, it is almost completely closed!. Must have been the bandages. You try to take a step. You actually don't feel to bad! in fact, despite the pain under your eye, you feel like a burst of energy. And a strong urge to battle You think roller blades would be easier to move in in your condition. Not as much impact. More gliding. You nudge FireStorm, who yawns, then jumps to his feet, alert.

"It's OK, relax, FireStorm." FireStorm grins at his new name. You voice doesn't sound so hoarse anymore. There is a large urge to go near the tree ounce more, and in your half asleep state, you just go over and touch it.
It is like a zap going through your body, but with none of the pain. All of a sudden, your alert, but not in a panicked way. You see everything around you so clearly. The trees. The grass. The shadows of creatures moving through them. That reminds you! You fish the smooth nut sized Pokéball from your bag. Sentret isn't moving.
"The Potion!" you realize.
You have heard that if a Pokémon is very hurt, you can preserve their energy in a Pokéball, to leave them at the state they are in. But only for a little while.
You fish out the finger sized bottle.
The instructions say for Pokémon about the size of Sentret to drink two drops.

You release the Sentret, but since it's energy is weak, there is a very dull light that seeps out.
It is unconscious. But you open the creature mouth and pour about two drops of Potion on it's tongue,

Then you Pokédex it, and find out a lot more info. Including that it's health is almost gone!
You return the Sentret. You have done all you can. Then you keep moving, Cyndaquil on your shoulder, the familiar comforting feeling of smooth gliding of roller blades along the pathway.

At the edge of route 29, the is a patch of berries. They are blue and round. You recognize them as Oran Berries. You take as many as you can carry, give a few to Storm, and put them in a Ziplock bag.

Storm is being extremely brave and protective of you. But you can tell it is very tired from it's Blaze experience. And Sentret is healing up considerably from the Potion, according to the Pokédex.

You roller blade to the Pokémon Center, and tell the desk clerk you need two Pokemon to be looked at and taken care of if necessary. It is free, as is the rent of room sand the food. because the government pays for trainers. Then you go over to the food court and smell the delicious smell of FOOD. You order some stir fry veggies and rice.
You have about 100 saved up that you brought with you. You win more money by winning battles, though.
\You finish you meal and talk to the nurse taking care of FireStorm and Sentret.
"Your Pokémon should be just fine, deary. It looks like Cyndaquil recently released a lot of power. It's body is exhausted! But I fed them both, as well."

You nod, feeling bad that you hadn't really noticed that Storm was tired much before. No wonder it kept sleeping.

"And Sentret is really hurt, but it WILL be fine. It has a lot of scars, though. What has it been fighting?"

"Umm, I found it being attacked by a metal Pidgey. It turned out to be a trainer name Lee Nightslasher. Do you know anything about him?"

"Yes in fact he came this way recently. We couldn't help heal up his robots, and he got angry! Then he told me his name and said he'd get revenge. It was creepy!"

"Oh. Well when can I take my Pokémon back?"

"Cyndaquil needs to rest. Sentret will need to be left in care with us.
You nod, taking back Cyndaquil's Pokéball as it is handed to you and immediately releasing him.

"Hi Storm! You feeling better?" FireStorm nods.

You thank the nurse, and go upstairs to your room. You are exhausted, but manage to brush you teeth before falling into bed.

You have a dreamless, peaceful night.

When you wake up, Storm is curled up on your lap.

You get ready and go downstairs with FireStorm. Sentret is all right, but it still has scratch marks all over it.
You have been thinking about what to name it....and you decide on, "I'll name you Scar!"
It's female, and it's a baby, but you are determined to make it into a fierce Pokemon. Also, it's ability is Run Away, but it could not run away from the Pidgey because it wasn't a real Pokémon!
Scar looks happy and seems to trust you. After all, you risked your life to save hers!

You just feel bad. Because Storm has done you so many favors. And you've just pet him a couple of times. You give FireStorm one last hug, thanking it again. Than...

Pokemon: Pick Cyndaquil

You look at the three see through red on the top, blurry but clear on the bottom, balls in your hand. You realize that the ball with the yellow creature is hotter than the others. You have studied Pokémon, relatively, and know that it is a Cyndaquil. A fire type. So, yeah the ball is hot. It is looking up at you with adorable eyes.
You hand the other two back to Professor Gary.
"I choose Cyndaquil!" You say officially.
"Ok then."

You don't really pay attention after that. You are too busy gawking at the blurry creature inside the smooth ball. You want to send it out, but you must wait.
The tall blond boy at the far end picks Chikorita.
The boy next to you with slick black hair and cold yellowish/brown eyes chooses Totodile.

The Professor gives you each a bag of supplies and A POKEDEX!!!!!!!!! It records all the data of Pokémon you catch. OMG this is amazing. The mini computer is red and about the size of your palm. You want to check it out, but you'll have to wait for that too.

Eventually, Gary sees you off, and as you walk out of the gate, you see Windy. OH YEAH OMG YOU FORGOT. She had a gift for you. Maybe it was a Pokémon. And she wanted to tell you something.
You approach her.
"Sorry sis, I was in a rush."

"S'okay," Windy replies hastily. Her blond hair is a tangle. It look like she ran all the way here, maybe carrying something heavy....

You glance over at the two boys. They have started a battle, Chikorita and Totodile are clashing head on. You want to battle the winner of this so bad...

"Forest! This is important!" Windy leads you under a tree.

"Touch the tree, Forest."

Windy had asked for weirder things. You really want to get in on that battle so you just obey.

"What do you feel."

"I feel bark on my fingers"! You reply impatiently.

"I need you to focus. Quit goofing off, this is urgent!"
There really is a note of anger in her voice.
"Does the tree give you any kind of energy?"

You take a deep breath. You do love nature...it would be weird if you didn't, hence your name. There is something there...yes, energy.

"Forest, have you ever found it weird? Dad's name is Burny. I'm Windy. Your Forest."

"Yeah but us three." She waits. "Elements! Burny is fire. Windy is air. Forest is nature!"

"SO, then our parents named us weird things!'
Windy shakes her head impatiently.
"Do you know the real reason I like to travel in the mountains." She waits. "My fighting is better there. It is very Windy. Dad became a fire gym leader. You, do you remember that time when we took you for a hike, and you pushed cousin Jake in the lake. He was fourteen, you were eight. And he was teasing you. You guys started having like a chicken fight. But then you got really mad. There was this aura of power about you. It was creepy. You let out a yell and grabbed him and pushed him in the creek! And.....and the trees seemed to sway in your direction!"

You do remember this. Not the moving trees part but pushing Jake in the water.
"What's your point? you demand impatiently, aware that the battle is probably over.

"You were born under a tree, didn't mom and dad tell you that? Did she even tell you the reason her and dad divorced?"

You shake your head.

"You know what? This conversation is for another day. The point is. Be careful in the Forest." She pauses, choosing her words carefully. "You possess great Power there, but be careful. I'll call you on the phone, Forest. But take this."
She brings out from her belt a dagger. About a foot long silver blade. Engraved with a gemstone.
"That is the rare blue emerald gemstone, Windy explains. Good luck." And she runs off. You are so stunned that all you can do is stare at the glinting blade in your hand.

You are walking along the pathway that leads to Cherrygrove city. You feel nervous when the dagger is out from your belt, so you keep in in there. You call it the Blue Emerald dagger, you have decided.

You take out Cyndaquil's Pokéball, finally ready to introduce yourself to it. When you push the white button the Ball goes from the size of a grape the size of an apple!

Then a blue light seeps out of the Pokéball, forming a shape. wherever the light seeps out, part of a yellow furry creature is formed. It take about 5 seconds. Then there is a blinking creature in front of you, looking as nervous as you feel.

"H-hi!" You take a deep breath and force your brain to relax. You know that all mouse Pokemon are smart, and this Cyndaquil can probably smell your fear.

You could go for the, "I am your trainer and you must obey me!" approach, but the great Ash Ketchum, one of your biggest trainer heroes', advice is to be friends with your Pokémon.

So you slowly lower you hand to the trembling creature. You put your hand against it's head. There are some dark turquoise areas of the Cyndaquil's body. There feel silky and but with no fur, while the yellow parts are very furry. It also has almost blackish dots on it's back, that are rather like scales.
Cyndaquil stays in a curled up position. You gently stroke it for a few minutes. Eventually, it uncurls it's body and looks at you cautiously.

"Hi Cyndaquil. I'm your new Trainer. My name is Forest Song. I hope we'll be able to be friends!"
You know that some Pokemon are extremely smart but Cyndaquil looks at you understandingly and you think you see a slight nod of its head.
It may just be a coincidence but...
"I think I'll name you-" you continue before realizing you do not know Cyndaquil's gender. AWKWARD.
Then you realize you can CHECK THE POKEDEX.

You take it out and press the large black button on the front you assume is the power button. Sure enough the screen appears. It takes you a few minutes to figure it out, but eventually you scan Cyndaquil, which makes the creature a bit uncomfortable, "sorry," but tells you that it's a baby, it's a male, it's level five, and it knows Tackle and Leer. SWEET.

You spend the next hour walking along route 29, getting to know Cyndaquil. You keep trying to think of good names. "Ember would be nice....if you were a girl." You say to the creature. Yo aren't sure how much human speak he can understand but oh well....

He gets used to you. He is a shy creature, so he won't let you pick him up, but Cyndaquil walks obediently alongside you. You make sure not to let him fall behind, as he walks cautiously. You want to maintain a sturdy relationship with your new friend. Not one of fright or commanding. And not one of him not listening to you.
You are just about to take a lunch break when you hear a rustling in the bushes. Out comes......a Sentret. It is a baby. Very small. you are about to challenge it to battle when you realize it's running from something. That's when the giant bird flies out from the undergrowth!

It's the biggest Pidgey you have ever seen. Usually, if they get to adulthood without evolving, Pidgey's wingspan goes up to 1 foot. But this one's is at least 1 1/2, and the weird part is, usually the old ones aren't so aggressive, so this one must be young. (Ok, you do now a lot about Pokemon.) Pidgey dives at the Sentret with its beak and claws. You don't know why it's preying on it, as usually Pidgey prey on bugs. But you have to do something quick or........

"Cyndaquil!" you command. But the little fire mouse hides behind your legs. You don't blame him. He's not even the size of the Pidgey's body! And Pidgey is supposed to be known as the tiny bird Pokemon.

Pokemon: Attack the Rattata

You pull out that "Blue Emerald" dagger from your belt, take off your roller blades (which you had been wearing), and charge into battle.
You throw yourself in front of the Sentret, the foot long blade in front of you for protection, as the Rattata comes up for another swoop.
It turns out of the way just in time. "Leave the Sentret alone!" you command. Than the Rattata dives at you!

You slash at it, but the blade bounces off as if it were...made of metal.
You wildly slash at the Rattata as it attacks the Sentret, who is now covered with scratches. You can always release it later, but the only way to save the poor Sentret now is to capture it.
For the split second you reach in to your bag, the Pidgey scratches you right in the face. You let out a scream, but manage to fish out one of the silky Pokéballs. You throw it on the Sentret as blood clogs your vision. The last thing you remember is hearing a battle cry of...."RITA!!!" and seeing Glowing Leaves shoot from out of no where!

You wake up.
you try to sit up and your head pounds. You reach up to touch under you right eye to find the warm thick feeling of blood. You start to panic. How much did you loose. And...and wear is Chikorita.
Then you hear a sound behind you."Chika?"

Chikorita has a mouth full of leaves. You feel your cut again, and realize it is bandaged with leaves.
You look around. the is a Pokéball to your right. Aahh! The Sentret. You clip it onto your belt. It is very weak and hurt. And so are you.

"Chikorita!" I don't know what to say. I-"
Chikorita walks over proudly to a Rattata. But it isn't a Rattata. it is a robot. There is smoking slashes in the metal, and the paint is chipping.

All of a sudden, someone walks out form behind a tree.
"I cannot believe you defeated me!"

"What?" You say drearily.

"Sorry you got hurt, but I don't make my Pokébots to fight humans! Either way I've done all I can. Here's some berries."
It's a boy with hair that is silver blondish. He has blue eyes, and a mouth that looks like he thinks something is funny, even though it is obvious he is genuinely sorry.

"Who-who are you?"

"I'm a trainer like you. Difference is, I make my Pokémon. Not catch them. But I have programmed them to be trained, and get experience in battle and Pokémon who defeat them get experience in battle. It's really cool. What's your name?"

"Forest." You decide telling him your first name wont hurt.
"Your Chikorita was awesome. It came through at the last second. Blasted a leaf attack at Pidbot! I think it was a really good version of Razor Leaf.

"Razor Leaf? but the Pokédex said it didn't know that yet. And I haven't trained Chikorita since then.
You check the Pokédex, but it says that Chikorita still doesn't know Ember attack. Then you notice her ability:
Overgrow: Boosts, or can even produce, plants or nature power, in danger. That's what it was!" It's ability caused it to use leaves when in danger!"

Chikorita looks proud. It walks over to you, and you pick it up into your lap and pet it. "Thank you Chikorita." You whisper.

"It was like a Nature Aura!" continues the boy.
"That's it!" you decide. "I'll name you Aura, Chikorita!"
Chikorita smiles.
"Yeah well, I'll be taking this now. I helped Chikorita bandage your cut. But I really must be going."
"Wait," you call as he runs off into the trees.
"What's your name?"
"Lee Nightslasher."
He calls off into the distance.
You have real bandages in your bag, which you quickly apply. Good thing mom made you bring the first aid kit. You think about relaxing and calling someone. Although your head is pounding from loss of blood, you will have to wait. You must keep going, it isn't far to Cherrygrove.
But when you try to stand up, within getting an inch off the ground, your head pounds.
Aura has fallen asleep in your lap. You look at your watch. It's nearing nighttime, and you still haven't eaten lunch.
You take your backpack, and pull out a power bar. You don't eat the berries, because you don't trust this, "Lee Nightwatcher." He let his metal Rattata hurt you, then ran off!
You wonder what you should feed Chikorita?
You slice up an Apple with your dagger, and share with her, who likes it.

You are in the middle of the pathway to Cherrygrove, so decide to rest against a tree. Chikorita helps you move your roller blades and backpack. Your trainer bag is separate and contains all of your trainer supplies.
Then you fall asleep under the shade of a tree, thinking, "Just a short nap."

You feel power seeping into you from all directions. Like cool wind but it moves slowly and sends WARM feelings up your body, even though it is cold. You hear noises in the distance, but you cannot tell if it is laughing or screaming!
Then you yell a battle cry and run towards the noises, only to find that you are near a cliff. You loose you footing, although you try to pull back at the last second. And scream as you wait for the impact of the rocks.

As you fall you feel that power surging through you. Your eyes are closed but it feels like icy flames are lapping at your face. Then when you are about to hit the ground, a tree cushions you. You breath a sigh of relief from within its branches.

Pokemon: Pick Chikorita

You look at the three see-through red on the top, blurry but clear on the bottom, balls in your hand. You realize that the ball with the light green creature is lighter than the others. You have studied Pokémon, relatively, and know that it is a Chikorita. A grass type. So, yeah the ball is light and leafy. The Chikorita is looking up at you with adorable eyes.
You hand the other two back to Professor Gary.
"I choose Chikorita!" You say officially.
"Ok then."

You don't really pay attention after that. You are too busy gawking at the blurry creature inside the smooth ball. You want to send it out, but you must wait.
The tall blond boy at the far end picks Totodile.
The boy next to you with slick black hair and cold yellowish/brown eyes chooses Cyndaquil.

The Professor gives you each a bag of supplies and A POKEDEX!!!!!!!!! It records all the data of Pokémon you catch. OMG this is amazing. The mini computer is red and about the size of your palm. You want to check it out, but you'll have to wait for that too.

Eventually, he sees you off, and as you walk out of the gate, you see Windy. OH YEAH OMG YOU FORGOT. She had a gift for you. Maybe it was a Pokémon. And she wanted to tell you something.
You approach her.
"Sorry sis, I was in a rush."

"S'okay Windy replies hastily. Her blond hair is a tangle. It look like she ran all the way here, maybe carrying something heavy....

You glance over at the two boys. They have started a battle, Totodile and Cyndaquil are clashing head on. You want to battle the winner of this so bad...

"Forest! This is important!" Windy leads you under a tree.
"Touch the tree, Forest."

Windy had asked for weirder things. You really want to get in on that battle so you just obey.

"What do you feel."

"I feel bark on my fingers"! You reply impatiently.

"I need you to focus. Quit goofing off, this is urgent!"
