All in all, it took us three days to get completely through Route 202. During that time, Jasmine caught a Bidoof and I caught a Kricketot. We had a good time, laughing, getting caught up in some small adventures, but we were glad to get back to civilization.

Jubilife City was very much a part of civilization. When we stepped out onto the road, it was nearly impossible to keep together and not get hurt. Everyone seemed to be going somewhere, and they all wanted to get there yesterday.

Even the Pokemon Center we stopped at was bigger and more busy. I could tell it was meant to house travelers and their Pokemon. We actually had to wait in a fairly long line before we could see Nurse Joy. We then had to sign up for a room because we were staying the night. She said if you waited until the last minute, you might as well sleep on the floor.

After healing up at the Center, we knew exactly where to go. The Trainer School was in Jubilife, and it was the perfect stop for beginners like us.

Since we already had some to eat earlier, we decided to continue down the path. Since it is still nice out, we let Turtwig, Piplup, Buizel and both Starly's walk with us.
I noticed that the Starly would fly ahead, wait till we caught up, then fly off again. The Piplup and Buizel chased each other around, but didn't get to far ahead or behind. For some reason, Turtwig stayed practically underfoot. I kept trying to encourage it to play with the others, but it seemed to want to cling to me.

Not very much happened as we continued. We met a few more wild Starly, but they left us alone for the most part. I was able to teach Turtwig Razor Leaf and Buizel Swift. It was amazing how much stronger it seemed now that it was with me. It got darker faster under the trees, but we decided to call it a night when we started tripping over tree roots. I sent everyone out to collect firewood while I got things prepared for dinner, since I was a better cooker that Jasmine. Once we had enough, we started the fire and I started cooking.

Route 202 was much different from 201. 201 had been a fairly open, grassy plain with few wild Pokemon. Route 202, on the other hand, was a narrow, windy dirt path through a woods, and crawling with Pokemon. Just a few hundred feet on our journey, and a bend in the road blocked our view of Sandgem. This was the first time on I really felt that we were on an adventure.

The trees were so thick, they shaded the path and made it much cooler. It was starting to get hot out, and the trees were very comfortable. We jogged off an on for the first couple hours, until we decided to stop at a small spring for an early lunch.

Everything was going fine. We had gotten the food out and had just turned back from watching our Pokemon splash around when I realized half a loaf of bread was gone. "Hey Jasmine."

"Yep."

"You did pack a full loaf of bread, right?"

"Yea, why?"

"Because half of it's missing."

"Hey! I didn't take it."

"No, I know you didn't, but half a loaf of bread doesn't just get up and walk away."

"Maybe our Pokemon can help. Starly!" Both of our Starly flew over to us. The rest of the Pokemon watched from a distance. "We need your help. Someone stole part of our bread and we want it back. Can you fly overhead and see if you can find it? If you do, have follow whatever is carrying it and other come back to us." The Starly gave a cry of agreement, then flew off, circling overhead.

Since we knew there was no point trying to eat until we got our bread back, we packed up the rest of our food, leaving a few snacks for ourselves and our Pokemon to munch on.

Fortunately, it wasn't long before one of them came back. I recognized it was mine, because it had a notch in its beck and was missing that stereotypical tuff of feathers that usually stuck up on there heads. It flew into my arms, and I fed it a little Pokemon food. "Did you find it?"

"Star!" it said with a nod.

"Show us, please." It immediately took off, and jogged behind it. I was just about to return Turtwig and Buizel, when we stopped. Both of the Starly were perched in trees around a small clearing. In the center, eating our bread, was a pair of Shinx!

I opened my Pokedex, but turned down the volume so only Jasmine and I could hear it. "Shinx, the Flash Pokemon. They usually live in large packs. They generate electricity with special muscles in their legs. They can release this electricity in a flash, allowing them to escape much larger predators." I closed the Dex, knowing that was all I would get from it. I turned to Jasmine to make a plan, but she had already run out to confront them.

"Hey you stupid Shinx! Give us our bread back!" They Shinx gave a cry of fright and acted like they were going to flash, but nothing happened. I opened my Pokedex again. "Sometimes weak, hungry or sick Shinx can not make a full flash."

"Go easy on them, Jasmine. They are probably just hungry."

"I don't care. If they wanted some food, they could have asked. Stealing is wrong. I challenge you two to a Pokemon match!"

I charged in just as Jasmine was leaving. "Celeste, where are you going?" I ignored her, because I had more important things to worry about.

Nurse Joy wasn't out yet, so I pounded my fist on the counter until she appeared from the back. Her hair wasn't in the usual double loops and she looked like she just woke up.

"Is there an emergency?" she asked groggily.

"Yes! Please help this Buziel."

"Oh my!" she exclaimed. "Give it to me dear." I handed the poor thing over and Nurse Joy ran into the back. A medical light started glowing over the door.

Jasmine came in and sat with me as I waited. "So how did you find it?"

"I was just walking down the beach when I saw it. I realized it mist have washed onshore during a storm. It wasn't moving, so I knew it must be hurt."

"That was a very brave thing to do."

"Thanks." I hugged myself, trying not to burst into tears.

Jamine leaned over to hug me. "Hey girl, it'll be okay. You don't need to cry. Nurse Joy is the best. She'll fix up that Buizel in no time." I just nodded, not trusting myself to answer. She began gently rocking me back and forth, humming a lullaby that every mother sang to her children when they were upset.

We were still sitting like that when Nurse Joy came back, pushing one of those hospital carts for patients. I immediately got up and ran over to see if the poor thing was alright. As soon as I got close, it jumped up into my arms. "The Buizel made a complete recovery. It's lucky you brought it in when you did, though."

"Okay, so we will just bring it out to the sea and be on our way then." Jasmine decided. But I wasn't listening to her. I was looking deedp into Buizel's eyes, and I knew it wouldn't be leaving us soon.

"Actualy," interjected Nurse Joy, "Buizel for strong, long-lasting family groups. If this one has been separated from its for very long, they might not remember it and reject it."

"So you mean..."

"Yes, one of you is going to have to train it. Fortunately, it doesn't look like it there will be any discussion about who." I smiled up at her.

We woke up early the next morning; ready to get a jump on the day. Or, I did. I had gotten dressed, fed both of our Pokemon and myself, and pack all of our stuff before Jasmine was fully awake. I was just sliding my Pokeballs into my trainer belt when she sat up. "Has Sleeping Beauty decided to join us?"

"What?" she asked groggily.

"You've way overslept. I left some bagels out for you, but you might have to hurry to catch up. I'll be out for awhile, so we'll meet at the north gate in one hour, okay?"

"Yea, sure, whatever."

I went for a stroke down along the beach, taking in that sea breeze one last time. As I was walking, I heard a weird noise. It took me a little effort to identify it as the cry if a Buizel. "Buzz! Buzzllll!" it cried. I ran over to where the sound was coming from, and the sight took my breath away.

There was a small Buizel, maybe a foot tall, dashed up upon the rocks. The poor thing looked like it had been swimming with it's group, but was so little it must have gotten separated in a offshore storm. Now the little guy was to weak to try to find them.

I cupped its little head, and was frightened by how cold it was. I huddled it close to my body, kissing its head and saying everything would be all right. Then I took off running towards the Pokemon Center.

Outside the Pokemon Center, we started looking for a cheep place to eat. We would start earning money after we beat the first gym leader, but that wasn't until Eterna City. We would have to conserve until then.

After we ate, we let Piplup and Turtwig out. It was fun to watch them chase each other in circles around the guest room of the Pokemon Center. Occasionally we had to tell them to calm down before they broke something, but for the most part we talked about the road ahead.

"Obviously the next city is Jublife."

"Of course, but where after that? Canalcave is to the west and there is a gym there, but I heard that Bertha is really though. Maybe we should try somewhere easier?"

"But she's a ground type trainer, both of our Pokemon are super effective against ground types."

"I am sure she will have thought of that. How bout we go to Eterna first, then Orenburgh. If we can both of the gym leaders there, we are probably ready for anything Bertha can throw at us."

Jasmine sighed in defeat. "Fine, we'll go through Eterna first."

I smiled, "Knew you would see it my way."

Gate was a slight exaggeration. The western entrance to Sandgem was rarely used, and it wasn't like there was anything to dangerous on this side of town. The old stone wall was moss covered and falling apart, the gate not even present. We strolled right on in along an old dirt road.

The place was pretty much deserted. Most of the population came here in the summer to enjoy the warm weather and sandy beaches. It would still be a month or so before the first wave hit. Most of the buildings in this area looked like summer houses, the rest were probably seasonal shops.

It wasn't until we reached the center of town that we started seeing other people. We hurried along until we reached the Pokemon Center. Though our Pokemon were probably fine, the Trainer's Guidebook said to visit the Pokemon Center of every town you reach to make sure they are okay. We did just that, checking in our Pokemon with the Nurse Joy and waiting patiently for her to finish. "It looks like you both have tKen good care of your Pokemon." she said as she gave them back.

"Thank you, mam."
"Yes, we just came in from Twinleaf."

"Really? Twinleaf? We just had a boy come through here an hour ago. He sure was a piece of work. It seemed to have rubbed off on his Chimchar.
