From Create Your Own Story
"Quite some time ago," The disembodied voice begins, "I kept watch over people. As long as they made me happy, I would never let things like hunger or sickness bother them. I'll admit, my requirement for such protection was a bit... harsh. Eventually, though, those people forgot to pay me what they needed. War claimed them rather quickly afterwards. Letting them be ravaged has proven to have been a very foolish decision these days, so I come to you wonderful students to ask of you one thing. Will you show me that the human race hasn't lost its way? It'll be easy enough for you, you know. All you have to do.."
She pauses, and you and Devin glance at each other. You open your mouth, but the doors to the upper walk-way area of the gym open and let in some light, catching everybody's attention. A woman steps inside, allowing the door to slowly close itself behind her.
"...is kill each other!"
Nobody knows what to say. Some look at each other in disbelief, some stare at the woman, some begin to mutter "What?"s, and a few others begin laughing. Someone stands up and tries to call her bluff.
"You're kidding, right? You can't seriously expect us to do that. Someone in here'll just call the cops and you'll get your ass hauled off, lady! We-"
He stops mid-sentence, staring at her intently. It's eerie, like she's got some hold on him. His hands, trembling in fear, slowly rise up to grasp his chin and the back of his head before suddenly twisting and letting out a sickening crack.
Just as his body hits the floor, the woman smiles and laughs to herself. "Now... no other protests, correct? Good. I would prefer to take care of this as quickly as possible, so I shall waste no time in finding the first contestants." She narrows her eyes as she scans the seats, finally stopping on a small brunette. You recognize her as a beam of light suddenly illuminates her and temporarily blinds her. The girl chosen is one Emily Voss, a rather shy, but friendly and ambitious girl who was in your Algebra I class freshman year.
"Yes... this one. She practically oozes life and innocence. Go on, go down to the floor. Step into the arena."
Nervous, but not wanting to challenge the woman's authority and end up like the boy who stood up to her, Emily makes her way down to the waxed wood floor, looking around for some sort of way out. You lean over to Devin and begin whispering "I know her, she was-" when a second light flicks on, pointed directly at you.
"You! Girl! If you feel that your conversation is more important than what is currently happening here, then you can fight for your right to speak!"
Shit. Now you've condemned yourself to this. And did the woman say something about killing each other? That's insane! You could never harm someone outside of self-defense and video games, and you plan to make that point by staying in your seat. Or, rather, that's your plan. After a moment, you find yourself called to the floor by some sort of siren song, and you're helpless as you walk yourself down onto the ground below.
Emily stares at you, her blue eyes wide with fear. You can tell that the idea of killing terrifies her, but the prospect of dying is much, much worse.
"Look, I could just as easily force the two of you to kill each other, or even yourselves, but there's no fun in that! I'd rather you found your own path in this."
Well, it looks like you don't have much of a choice here. Emily's a sweet girl and all, THAT much you remember, but this is life or death, and you've got to make your decision fast.
Emily makes two small, almost adorable fists as you raise your own. You mouth "I'm sorry" to her, and she nods.
Try to hit her in the gut before she can react.
Prepare yourself in case she tries to get the first hit in.
