What kind of friend would you be if you didn't look for look for Michael first? Besides, he owes you coffee.
The inn itself seems a good place to start your search. Since Michael has a room here, you wonder if the innkeeper knows anything. You walk up to the front desk. "Excuse me, a co-worker of mine, from the Lager and Hays firm was staying here... Michael is his name. Is he still checked in, and when did you last see him?"
The innkeeper strokes his beard. "Michael? Room 103. He never checked out, but I haven't seen him since the night before last." He glances furtively about.
