This is properly punctuated, although some might say that you can't grin your dialogue.

"Thanks, youngster. That was exactly what I needed." She grins.

This is also properly punctuated. The grinning has been changed from a dialogue tag to a separate action.

This is not punctuated properly and it is not acceptable. If the grinning is a separate action and not a dialogue tag, then she is the first word in a sentence and must be capitalized.--Platypus 11:27, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
