You had just roused yourself and gotten out of bed, leaving Piper alone. Ever since two months ago, when you both had confessed your mutual feelings for each other, you had shared your bed, apart from your other companions. At first you had both been losing sleep for your nightly activities, but now that was only on some nights, and on others it was enough just to hold each other. Last night had been the former, however, and it took some effort to get up, but you managed to get out, without waking Piper. You had told her yesterday of your short trip, yet even so, it was you who wasn't ready to leave. Turning away from the lasting remnants of a warm bed and embrace, you focus on your current mission.

You were standing outside your Red Rocket station, alone, slightly heartsick already. It was early in the morning, the sun just barely peeking above the eastern horizon.

You were headed to the Institute, to pick up Curie. You usually adventured with Piper, but for this specific task, you didn't want Piper in risk of radiation, as you were headed to the Crater of Atom, in the heart of the Glowing Sea. Before that, however, you decided to take Curie with you, and she was at the Institute. After talking with Shaun for a while, you mentioned Curie. He was interested in her, and asked if you could let him try some new modifications on her. You agreed, and sent her off to the Institute a week or so ago. You figured that she'd be done and were now going to pick her up, and then go straight to the Crater of Atom. Deciding that it was time to go, you pulled up you Pipboy and fast traveled to the Institute.

With a 'zap', accompanied by a static charge through your body, you were in the Institute. Shaun was standing in the Lobby, seemingly waiting for you.

"Hello, Sh-uh, Father." you stammer out.

"Hello, welcome back. I assume you're here for Curie? Very well. She was very interesting to work with, but her modifications are all done, and she is ready to be activated."

"What modifications did you make to her?" you ask as he leads you upstairs, to his room.

"Well, I personally did them all myself. They were the test for the next great breakthrough in synthetic life technology. The Gen 1's are mindless, drone. Gen 2's are somewhere between 1's and 3's, which look, and almost act, human. The greatest challenge that we've had since the start has been emotion. True emotions, and the ability to form their own emotions without prior programming. Your Curie seems to have developed a form of that herself, making her and ideal subject.
