The blonde stiffens up like I've slapped her in the face. 'Yes,' she snaps, 'I was.' We sit in silence for a while. Then she sighs. 'Look, when I first met Arthur I was just a girl, young and naïve. He was brilliant and charming and we... hit it off. At first I was a bit wary of him, being alone in the city. But then I realized he'd actually fallen in love with me just as I had with him.'
'So where did it go wrong?' I ask.
'The same place it did with his other three wives, I guess,' she says, knocking the ash off her cigarette. 'We just drifted apart. He had little time for anything but his work and I just wanted something more...'
