The old man dies from the lack of oxygen. You fly for a while and see a planet full of puppies. The puppies all have a level 7 intellect. They communicate telephathically. They tell you that the planet is named Pupulon. You learn from them that the old man had been eating them alive. They all claim that you are now their hero.
