"I had a friend," you begin.

"We were driving through the desert for fun, then he stranded me out there."

Kuzo's eyes widen. "What for?"

You smile sheepishly. "I had sex with his girlfriend."

Kuzo suddenly bursts out laughing.
You join in but feel cold inside.
You wonder how you can conjure up believable stories when you can't even remember your past.

"Well," says Kuzo when he can finally take a breath, "How are you going to get home then? There aren't many cars here."

Your heart sinks.
You don't even know where home is.
You feel like you need to be some place important, but you don't remember where.
You get a brief flash of a woman's face before it slips from your grasp.
Suddenly, it hits you.

"Kuzo, I need to get to Yudoma."

You're not completely sure how you know this but it feels right.

Kuzo's jaw drops, and after a moment of stunned silence, he asks. "You're from the capital?"

You nod, even though you're not sure if it's the truth.

When all you can remember is your name, you think, You have to follow your instincts.

Kuzo looks a little wary of you now, although you can't say why.
Most of the humor has left his eyes.

"Ty, you're not part of the government, are you? People around here don't like that."

You shake your head and Kuzo sighs with relief.

"Well, then," he says, "Let's go get you a drink."
