You don't wait to see if the woman is reliable. You don't question what she said. You have to get Melanie to the hospital. You rush back to the car, jump into the driver's seat, and slam the door shut. Locking it, you throw the car in reverse and peel out of the station.
Considering your options, you wonder if the whole town is going to be a mess. The highway might be faster, but there might be a gridlock of abandoned cars. You could take the back roads, which will be slower, but there will probably be fewer cars. Then again, maybe not. You can't be sure either way, but you have to make a choice. Melanie isn't going to last much longer.
