Note: This story, much like the ego of a starlet, is highly unstable and likely to change at any given time. Nothing is permanent. To say this story (which I began and abandoned within a month in 2010) is currently being written would be an understatement. "Jack... Hey, Jack. Wake up, man."
Groaning, you open your eyes and lift your head off of your desk, looking around the room. Yep, same room you fell asleep in. 403, Geo Sciences with Ms. Quamos. Your friend, Sarah, is standing over you and poking you.
"Shit..." you mumble, "Everyone already leave?" She smiles and nods, telling you that everyone "just left, like, thirty seconds ago." Today's the day that your science class is heading off to the natural caves, just an hour from your school, to check out the crystal deposits. You yawn and stand up, shaking your head. "I guess we'd best get going then..."
She pats you on the shoulder, and takes your backpack off the floor. You take it from her, thank her, and follow her out and into the bus loop. The light burns your eyes, but before long, they adjust and give you a damn good view of Sarah. She's no taller than 5'3", which means that you're a full eight inches taller than her. You've known her since kindergarten, and the years have given the two of you a very close-knit friendship that some mistake for love. "Hey! You gonna get onto the bus or ogle me some more?" She jokes with you, smiling back over her shoulder.
"Well... maybe I had planned to do both. You don't have a problem with that, do you, Sarah?" You return, laughing.
"Not at all."
Climbing onto the bus, you hesitate a moment. Sarah has taken a seat somewhat close to the middle of the bus, but you notice another seat. It's also half empty, and seated in the other half is the girl you've had your eyes on for a few months now, Jennifer. Sarah motions towards you and points at her seat. Jennifer, on the other hand, hasn't seemed to notice you.
The driver looks at you. "Pick a freaking seat, kid. We don't have all day."
