You ease the magazine drawer shut and feel around the top of the dresser until your hand brushes against a wooden box.  You lift the lid and grope about until you find a small tear-shaped object.  You squeeze the novelty earring and it lights up.  It isn't a very bright light, but it's enough for you to find its mate.

You ease the magazine drawer shut and feel around the top of the dresser until your hand brushes against a wooden box. You lift the lid and grope about until you find a small tear-shaped object. You squeeze the novelty earring and it lights up. It isn't a very bright light, but it's enough for you to find its mate.

"That's not a lot of light," your sister says.

She's right, but when you stick the earrings in your ears, the light is enough for you to make out your hand in front of your face. You can even discern the other contents of the jewelry box... like the gold chain that you've always liked and your sister never lets you borrow.
