Daetyrnis is a member of Charas (previously known as Ruler of the Dark) who has a relatively low post count when compared to his join date of '04. This is due to his posts being split between two accounts, his lack of motivation to post in topics, and his loss of interest in RPG Maker.

Awesome Timeline
Early Posts
Daetyrnis joined Charas early 2004, and like most members, acted like a complete idiot (also n00b) before realizing that posting illiterately does not make one "cool". Charas was the first forum that he joined, and thus his early internet experiences are shown in his first few posts, which include words such as ur, i, and other forms of bastardized English. Daetyrnis's lack of commitment was shown early on, with a new game proposal every few days, each often reusing the same cliche plotline. He also started several threads to take requests for RPG Maker resources, though his lack of commitment caused all to be eventually either closed or left to deteriorate.

Random Hiatus
Around the same time Daetyrnis began to appreciate spelling and grammar, he drifted away from the Charas Community. He explored various other sites, and in this process created a new internet alias for himself. Now actually known as Daetyrnis, he began to earn a reputation in some communities for having talent for sprite making. Even elsewhere than Charas however, he would create threads to take requests, and give up on them in the span of a few weeks.

Present...ish
Daetyrnis eventually returned to Charas and created a new account with his newfound name. He often lurks the site, reading others' threads and keeping up with the political drama that is Charas. Sometimes, he even motivates himself to click the REPLY button.

Game Creation
Daetyrnis took a great liking to RPG Maker 2003 and explored the many things that it could do. Presently, he considers himself a "master" of the application, even though he has no finished games good enough to post on the internets to prove it. After time, Daetyrnis grew bored with RPG Maker, especially when he realized that to create anything great in it, one has to work around the limitations built in (such as only 50 pictures, lack of concise methods to handle many cases, etc.), and has moved on to learn about actual programming. Every once in a while, Daetyrnis takes a crack at RPG Maker again, planning epic games and wonderful battle systems, only to become frustrated once again at the inadequacy of the program.

Spriting & Drawing
Daetyrnis enjoys creating sprites and through this process and observations, he has come to fancy himself a "master" of spriting as well. This is beneficial for making games, as he can create the graphics himself. Also, Daetyrnis has a hand for the pencil and paper medium, and he enjoys drawing pictures when he should be paying attention in class.
Daetyrnis

Daetyrnis:

Daetyrnis is a member of Charas, one who often views the site, but doesn't post much. This is due to his overall laziness as well as his general lack of motivation. Daetyrnis is also known as Ruler of the Dark, as that was the username of his first account on Charas.

Charas History
The Beginning
When Daetyrnis joined in 2004 (as Ruler of the Dark) he, like other members, was incredably n00bish. His first post (February 2, 2004, 6:13 pm) used the word ur instead of your, and the word I was not capitalized. This brings him much shame, as he is now grammatically correct to an extreme degree, and now finds texttalk very annoying. His first thread, which was posted in April 2004, was titled My new game and consisted of three low-quality screenshots and a few one-liners about the alleged plotline. After little more than one day, Daetyrnis dropped the game he posted about and started a new one (consisting of even less information than his previous game). This game too was dropped soon after. Daetyrnis made several Request Threads (for others to request in), though each was abandoned after a while. Daetyrnis's commitment level has been proven low, time and time again.

Midrange - Name Change
Daetyrnis did not post much during this time, and thus little resulted from this period. His grammar and spelling improved, and he began to show talent for programming with RPGMaker as well as for spriting. Though he did not post much, he viewed the current threads an a daily basis. As October 2006 drew near, Daetyrnis drifted away from Charas, and barely even viewed the forums anymore. He had found another forum that caught his interest, and he had, in effect, migrated there. On October 5th, 2006, Daetyrnis decided that he should become an active member of Charas. He created a new account to match his common username, and began to post.

October 2006 - Present Day
Daetyrnis began to post more, now posting more than once every week or two. He has contributed tutorials for specific and general topics, sometimes answering simple questions from newbs in long-winded, verbose explanations. He made several All-of-All topics, and posted a thread centered around his own sprites.

Talents and Personality
RPGMaker
Though the exact date that Daetyrnis started using RPGMaker 2003 is unknown, he has used it for more than two years, and has explored every facet of the program. Through his own experiments, and by observing the techniques of others, he has become a self-proclaimed expert in all things RPGMaker.

Spriting
Though he always had a talent for spriting, Daetyrnis really came into his own recently, perhaps during the summer of 2006. He enjoyed the game Fire Emblem and loved the style of sprites in it, so he tried to emulate their appearence. At this point, he didn't do very well at a sprite from scratch. Only slightly deterred by the result, he proceeded to try his hand at some basic edits and splices, the result is seen in the last thread he posted as Ruler of the Dark. He moved onto semi-custom edits, and eventually, full-blown customs. The time period of his largest improvement in spriting is when he had left Charas for another forum. Consequently, he ended up being regarded as a wondeful sprite artist there. After returning to Charas as Daetyrnis, he created another thread that depicted his then recent creations.

Drawing
Offline, Daetyrnis is enrolled in a Regional Arts Program in his Highschool, something that he had to audition for to get in. He is a relatively good artist, and particularly enjoys drawing anime-styled characters. Although he only has one piece submitted to DeviantArt (note: more evidence for lack of motivation), you can visit his page to see his work. Hopefully his gallery will increase in size within the near future.

Personality
Daetyrnis is a carefree person, who loves to have fun. He is generally spontaneous and enjoys a good laugh. He is very clumsy, and he likes Chicken. Daetyrnis is very specific about grammar and spelling, and sometimes can be a perfectionist in this regard. He excels intellectually, shown by being enrolled in an Enhanced Learning Class from grades two through eight (before going to the artsy school XP). He likes coming across as smart over the internet, and loves to use logic to defeat his foes. Daetyrnis particularly detests idiots, and all people who act n00bish.

Random Tidbits
The Badger Thing
Whe Daetyrnis registered as Ruler of the Dark, he had a liking of badgers, and thus made his avatar a badger. Ever since then, his avatar has continously been badger-related, excluding a few occasions. Upon changing his avatar, he was advised to change it back to the badger, "or else".

64% of the posts in his return thread as Daetyrnis were about badgers, the badger song, or a variation of the badger song.

Imposters!
When Daetyrnis was known as Ruler of the Dark, a total of 2 imposter accounts were made. Neither has any current posts, though Ruler of the Dark made one post, which was later deleted.
*Ruler of the Dark2 - Did nothing whatsoever
*Ruler of the Dark - Impersonated Daetyrnis/Ruler of the Dark for one post, which later sparked a short debate about how the account was created. The verdict was that the username contained a superflous space (whether pre- or post- is unknown at this time). The avatar appears to be Sailor Venus from the anime Sailer Moon.

Other Things
Daetyrnis hasn't posted in the forum he left Charas for in quite some time. This either shows his lack of motivation, or his commitment to Charas. You decide!
RPG Maker (series)

Daetyrnis:

Addplz
Cleanup
RPG Maker (Also known as RPGツクール or RPG Tsukūru) is a computer program that allows users to create their very own RPG, in the style of the 16-bit RPGs commonly seen on the Super NES or Sega Genesis. It uses a point-and-click based engine, which is easy to learn but is versatile enough to create truly complex systems. The most well-known RPG Makers are RPG Maker 2000, RPG Maker 2003 and RPG Maker XP, all for use on the PC; however, there are RPG Maker programs available on other platforms as well.

(OOC: This article needs a proper format. If you want to see the previous version, check the history page at the top, but I think it's better off just to start from scratch. The headings below should give an idea as to how the article should look.)

Platforms
Over the years, RPG Maker has been released on several different platforms. Console versions have not been as popular as the PC versions, however, mainly due to the difficulty/impossibility of importing custom resources or sharing games with others.
PC
There are four different editions of RPG Maker released for the PC.
RPG Maker 95
RPG Maker 95, abbreviated RM95, was the first PC edition of RPG Maker. It used 24-bit BMP graphics, and did not double the resolution of graphics, which allowed for higher-resolution games at the cost of large graphics file sizes. RM95 did not enjoy the sweeping popularity of the other RPG Makers, and because it does not run on NT-based versions of Windows (IE Windows XP), it is rarely used today.
RPG Maker 2000
RPG Maker 2000, abbreviated RM2k, was the next installment in the PC line of RPG Maker games, and one of the most popular ones. It was a vast improvement over it's predecessor, and added several changes. The amount of allowed pictures, heroes, variables, and other features were all upgraded. Resources were changed from BMPs to 8-bit PNGs in order to cut down on space used by graphics. The amount of resources allowed was uncapped, allowing a virtually infinite amount of charsets, chipsets, and other resources. Other noticeable changes included a decrease in the allowed resolution, most likely to make games appear similar to other sprite-based games that were prevalent during this time, and the removal of other visible part members on the main map.

RPG Maker 2003
RPG Maker 2003, abbreviated RM2k3, was the follow-up to RM2k, and was mainly focused on a few key changes - several resources that were usable in RM2k were reusable in RM2k3. The biggest change was the battle system - previously a front-view type that resembled Dragon Quest and Earthbound, RM2k3 introduced a side-based battle system similar to the Final Fantasy series. Accordingly, party members gained a new type of resource - battlecharas, which were much more difficult to make than the portraits that were previously used. The new battle system also used another new type of resource, the System2 resource. RM2k3 also added the ability to use MP3 files alongside MIDI and WAV files for background music.

RPG Maker XP
RPG Maker XP, abbreviated RMXP, is the latest installment in the RPG Maker series, and the first to be officially translated into English and made available outside of Japan. RMXP contains a few older features of the franchise, such as a return to a resolution of 640x480, as well as returning to a front-style battle system similar to that used in RM2k and RM95. The biggest change in RMXP is the introduction of the Ruby scripting system, which opens up the game system to a level of customization previously unavailable in the RPG Maker series. Resources for RMXP are much more flexible in size requirements; charasets, for example, only contain a single set of poses for a single entity, but can be as big or as small as the creator wants as long as its dimensions are multiples of 4. In addition, resources are now 24-bits in color depth, allowing for millions of colors available in any graphic.

Game Boy Advance
Playstation and Playstation 2
Other platforms
Legality
Regarding the PC RPG Makers, none of them have been legally translated and sold outside of Japan until RMXP. Several people have, however, gone ahead and translated them in order to let people who do not understand Japanese to use the program. Although this in itself is illegal, several translations come along with a crack that unlocks the limits on the demo version of RPG Maker that are publicly available for download. Thus, if you are using a version of RPG Maker that is not RMXP and is not in Japanese, it is illegal.

RPG Maker sites make it a point to let people know that they do not support this in any way, and assume that all their users are using legal versions of RPG Maker. It is the user's responsibility to ensure that they are using a legal version of RPG Maker.

Bank Tutorial

Written By: Daetyrnis

Difficulty: *****

This tutorial outlines and explains how you can implement a bank system into your game.

Because the nature of banks is that you can withdraw your money from anywhere, you'll need several bank event locations. You will be making only one event with this tutorial, but you will need to copy and paste it to other places to get the full effect of the system.

We start by making an event that will be the actual bank system. Make it Same Level as Hero and give it the graphic of a bankteller. On the first page, we let the player decide whether they want to start an account. This is simple enough. Place a 'Show Message' command followed by a 'Show Choice' command to get this done. What we get is something like this.

You can add to this later, but for now, it fits our purposes. Remember that along with the following code, this should be included in every bank event. The player could decide to start an account at any given time.

Now we need the player to be able to withdraw and deposit their money. For this we will need a total of 3 variables. We'll call them

Current Money will store the amount of money that the player currently has. Bank Money will be the running total of money stored in the bank system. And Bank Input will be what we use for the player to decide how much money to withdraw or deposit.

Now, lets make the actual bank system: the part that allows the player to withdraw and deposit their money at will. Make a new page in the event, giving it the prerequisite of Switch[0001:Bank Account] - ON. We start with a choice of withdrawing, depositing, or doing nothing. A good thing to do is show the player how much money they currently have by using '\\$'. We also show the amount of money in the bank by using '\\v[2]' to show the current value of the second variable: Bank Money.

Let's begin with what happens upon choosing Withdraw. First, show a message asking how much to withdraw, along with showing the player's current money and bank money. Then we use a a'Input Number' command so the player can choose the amount.

Next, we have to make sure the player isn't withdrawing more money than they have in the bank. We do this with a simple conditional fork.

If all is fine, then we subtract Bank Input from Bank Money and add Bank Input to the player's money.

So all together, withdrawing will look like this.

Depositing is very similar. The only differences are that you have to assign the player's money to a variable, and check that the input is lower than that. And of course how it affects the player's money.

All together...

There are a few things that you can do to add to the system. You can add interest so that the player's money grows. You do this by doing the following (adds 1% to Bank Money).

Do this at the end of every battle, at the end of every day (if you're using a day/night system), or any other time you see fit.

Also, you can give the player certain benefits in the form of items. These items can range from common potions to rare items only obtainable with the bank. Examples of times to give items are
*Upon starting an account
*Reaching certain levels of deposited money (such as 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, etc.)
*Being a member of the bank for a long time (usually requires day/night system)

There are more things that you can add to spice up your bank, as these are only the basics.

Bank Tutorial
Written by: Daetyrnis
Variable [0003: Bank Input]

<> Show Message: Welcome to the bank. What would you like to do?
<> Show Message: \\$Your account currently has \\v[1] gold in it.
<> Show Choices: Withdraw/Deposit/Nothing
: [Withdraw] Handler
...
: [Deposit] Handler
...
: [Nothing] Handler
<> Show Message: Very well, good day to you.

Let's begin with what happens upon choosing Withdraw. First, show a message asking how much to withdraw, along with showing the player's current money and bank money. Then we use a a'Input Number' command so the player can choose the amount.

<> Show Message: \\$You have \\v[2] gold in the bank. How much do you wish to withdraw?
<> Input Number: 6 digits [0003: Bank Input]

Next, we have to make sure the player isn't withdrawing more money than they have in the bank. We do this with a simple conditional fork.

<>Fork Option: Var[0003: Bank Input] equal to or less than Var[0002: Bank Money]
...
: ELSE case
<> Show Message: Sorry, you don't have that much to withdraw.

If all is fine, then we subtract Bank Input from Bank Money and add Bank Input to the player's money.

<> Change Variable: [0002: Bank Money] minus [0003: Bank Input] value
<> Change Money: Increase by [0003: Bank Input] value

So all together, withdrawing will look like this.

<> Show Message: \\$You have \\v[2] gold in the bank. How much do you wish to withdraw?
<> Input Number: 6 digits [0003: Bank Input]
<>Fork Option: Var[0003: Bank Input] equal to or less than Var[0002: Bank Money]
:<> Change Variable: [0002: Bank Money] minus [0003: Bank Input] value
:<> Change Money: Increase by [0003: Bank Input] value
: ELSE case
<> Show Message: Sorry, you don't have that much to withdraw.

Depositing is very similar. The only differences are that you have to assign the player's money to a variable, and check that the input is lower than that. And of course how it affects the player's money.

<> Show Message: \\$You have \\v[2] gold in the bank. How much do you wish to deposit?
<> Input Number: 6 digits [0003: Bank Input]
<> Change Variable [0001: Current Money] set Money value
<>Fork Option: Var[0003: Bank Input] equal to or less than Var[0001: Current Money]
:<> Change Variable: [0002: Bank Money] add [0003: Bank Input] value
:<> Change Money: Decrease by [0003: Bank Input] value
: ELSE case
<> Show Message: Sorry, you don't have that much to deposit.

All together...

<> Show Message: Welcome to the bank. What would you like to do?
<> Show Message: \\$Your account currently has \\v[1] gold in it.
<> Show Choices: Withdraw/Deposit/Nothing
: [Withdraw] Handler
<> Show Message: \\$You have \\v[2] gold in the bank. How much do you wish to withdraw?
<> Input Number: 6 digits [0003: Bank Input]
<>Fork Option: Var[0003: Bank Input] equal to or less than Var[0002: Bank Money]
:<> Change Variable: [0002: Bank Money] minus [0003: Bank Input] value
:<> Change Money: Increase by [0003: Bank Input] value
: ELSE case
<> Show Message: Sorry, you don't have that much to withdraw.
: [Deposit] Handler
: [Nothing] Handler
<> Show Message: Very well, good day to you.

There are a few things that you can do to add to the system. You can add interest so that the player's money grows. You do this by doing the following (adds 1% to Bank Money).

<> Change Variable: [0004: Interest] set [0002: Bank Money] value
<> Change Variable: [0004: Interest] divide by 100
<> Change Variable: [0002: Bank Money] add [0004: Interest] value

Do this at the end of every battle, at the end of every day (if you're using a day/night system), or any other time you see fit.

Also, you can give the player certain benefits in the form of items. These items can range from common potions to rare items only obtainable with the bank. Examples of times to give items are
*Upon starting an account
*Reaching certain levels of deposited money (such as 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, etc.)
*Being a member of the bank for a long time (usually requires day/night system)

There are more things that you can add to spice up your bank, as these are only the basics.

He is very clumsy, and he like Chicken.

Real Facts about Daetyrnis
*Daetyrnis's real name is Alex Moakler
*He lives in Brampton, Ontario, a city located close to Toronto
*He is a fifth generation Canadian
**People sometimes badger him about is true heritage (before Canadian) and he merely replies "European"
*Daetyrnis is blond-haired and blue-eyed
*Daetyrnis speaks English fluently, knows minimal French, and has started learning Japanese.

Other Things
Daetyrnis hasn't posted in the forum he left Charas for in quite some time. This either shows his lack of motivation, or his commitment to Charas. You decide!
Archem2

Introduction
Archem2, more commonly referred to as simply Archem, is a fairly new member who arrived in mid 2005. Although never properly introduced, he has quickly risen in popularity and has added a noticable amount of character and honest opinion to the forum. Other popular members who joined during the 2005 timeframe include Meiscool, ZeroKirbyX, Dragonium, and Bluhman. Archem is most noticably known for his Pac-Man styled ghost avatar and characteristic humor (or lack of, depending on who you ask).

The Meiscool Conflict
Early on, Archem was a fairly noobish member who often used run-on sentences or excessive commas, and tried to create humorous situations from some original and some over-used comedic stylings. Because of this, another well-known member, Meiscool, began to argue with Archem about the quality of his posts, often using child-like insults and pointing out various flaws. Archem countered with similarly immature posts. The overall attitude displayed in these back-and-forth flames were noted by several members, and before action was taken, Meiscool apologized for his hostility via personal message. Since then, Archem and Meiscool have been seen on a more positive note and have even taken similar sides in other developing arguments and debates.

Fanship
The popular comic Epic Adventures[!] , created by Moosetroop11, is one prime example of fanship showed by Archem, and because of his constant attention and constructive criticism payed to the development of the comic, Archem has received two to three (depending on how you interperate them) guest cameos in the comic. Archem is also a rather strong follower of the recent Charas Comix , created by MrMister, and is an avid fan of drenrin2120's The Ghosts of Heart Lake .

Fads
Archem can be attributed to the creation of the .::Proud Owner::. fad that has begun to take form in the signatures of several forumites. The fad originally started with the simple animated image that proudly showed ownership of a Nintendo DS, along with a dancing DS. Today, it spans everything from consoles to people.

Real Life
Archem's real name is David Joseph Guevara, and he was born on September 19 of 1989. He is a high school senior living in Houton, Texas on the edge of what separates Houston from Katy. He is most known for his off-the-walls humor, morbid responces to real-life issues, Convoluted Logic™, abstract and deep thinking, and his obsessive-compulsive disorder. It was once said that there is a fine line between genious and insanity, and Archem has had on-and-off internal bouts with himself to stay out of insanity territory, although this may be attributed to his quirky attitude and his outlook on life. Which, by the way, varies based on the time of day. Early in life, Archem has had strong suicidal urges, which have since subsided. He has also had problems coping with frustration, but over the past six years, he has made drastic improvements in his thinking and has created many alternatives to expressing frustration (although some may be seen as unhealthy) that have helped make him a very placid person. Archem is short-sighted and has selective claustrophobia (it used to be severe claustrophobia), but he has formulated ways to cope with that as well.

Trivia
•Archem has never made an introduction post on the Charas-Project forums.

•Archem actually has two profiles (the second is known as Archem), but due to problems with the email account activation system, the account was never able to be activated.

•Archem has shoulder-length, wavy hair. Not that any of you would enjoy hearing stories of the sexyness of his hair.

•Archem is also known as Taco Bell.

•Archem has a light complexion, but is actually 50% Mexican. The other two parts are 25% Polish and 25% Slovak. Therefore, he is majority-wise a Mexican.

•Archem doesn't know how to speak spanish.

He is very clumsy, and he like Chicken.

You decide!
