A common term in Charas. One that refers to a member with little or no knowledge of the forum. It is also a widespread computer term meaning the same thing.

Every so often, Charas gets a few and they always get the hint and leave (if not, we've got Meiscool).

== N00b and newb: the common misconception ==

As stated before, a n00b is one without knowledge of a forum. However, some members join claiming themselves "n00bs" off the bat. This is wrong in the fact that Newb stands for something entirely different. A Newb is a new member of a forum.

To further clarify, one can have been a member for a year, yet still be n00b in the fact that they repeatably post spam and other nonsense.

== Reasons for being a n00b ==

The following are common ways members can be considered n00bs:

1. They post without THOROUGHLY understanding the rules, expecting to know them already.

2. They claim superiority over those who clearly are superior of them.

3. In comic threads, they plead for cameos, despite only being a member for 2 weeks.

4. Usually n00bs try to be cool by imitating other members or mentioning something that's always talked about. One example would be having Sephiroth in their name and/or having Cloud in their avatar and/or signature. (Sephiroth Rocks being a notable exception)

==Mistreatment of Newbies==
Although this article may lead you to believe all those labeled as "n00bs" are free game and should be insulted at every opportunity, this is hardly the case. The only group of people larger than "n00bs" are the people who hate them and feel it's their responsibility to insult these people to either shape them up or, ideally, make them leave.

In the minority, however, are people who believe that all new people should be treated with just as much respect as older members. They see the flaming of these people as cruel and unnecessary. The idea is this: At one point in everyone's life, they were inexperienced with the internet. They didn't know the proper way to act online and simply wanted to have fun on the internet. Instead of driving potential users away, these few people believe that newbies should be pointed towards the rules and encouraged to shape up, rather than berated for their mistake.

Sadly, the number of people dedicated to helping newcomers to the website is too small to combat the excessively large amount of people who think their ridicule is acceptable.

Kairou

FFL2and3rocks: Kairou wasn't banned for posting his password, he was fired from being a mod. He was banned later for spamming.

kAiRoU, who preferred his name be spelt “Kairou”, was a young member of Charas who became a graphics editor as a way to gain support for his own projects. He became a moderator and founder for the Charas Project Official Magazine Team. After the [[pop]] incident, Kairou seemed to snap, posting his password, while still a moderator, in the forums. This angered [[Alex]], and he immediately fired Kairou from being a moderator. Later, Kairou spammed the forums, which ultimately resulted in him being banned.

Throughout Charas' history, there have been many names that have attempted to disrupt the peace in the forums. While most of them do not succeed in that right, they do often create a hectic atmosphere, gaining the attention of many a member and making work for the moderators.

A persistant pest whose FF5 chipset edits haunt complete resources.

==kAiRoU==
Once a moderator of the [[Charas Project Official Magazine Team]]. After the whole [[pop]] fiasco, he kept claiming that he was killed by pop, or that pop stole his soul, etc. Eventually, he lost it and posted a new thread in [[Test & welcome board|Test & welcome]], where he revealed his password. This angered [[Alex]], because kAiRoU was a moderator, and Alex didn't want any regular person to have access to a moderator account. Because of this, Alex immediately fired kAiRou from his position as moderator.

Not long after this, he began to spam the forums, mostly by copying large amounts of text from somewhere and then pasting them into new threads. He was banned shortly after. He later came back as Lighting Half Dozen, asking for redemption. Then he later came to be a quasisemiregular.

He is currently unable to log in due to losing his password.

==pop==
[[pop]] was a friend of [[White Dwarf|White Dwarf's]] who showed him Charas. pop then blackmailed White into making him an account. He decided that instead of contributing to the community, he would just spam the hell out of it. So he did. He got a ban.

It didn't stop there though. Afterwards, three other accounts were made, '''pop 2''', '''pop3''' and '''LloydBanks'''; pop 2 was banned for spamming, but pop3 wasn't as that account was never used. LloydBanks another account that was made as a threat in one of his AIM conversations in which he claimed in a classic and cliche villainous fashion "I am no longer pop, for I have ascended that name," bad spelling included. Later it was revealed that pop 2 was actually pop's younger brother, trying to make him feel better, and [[Apex]] made the third account, for the lulz. [[Red Giant#Bizarre Troll Connection|More on that, here]].
Strangely, he shared an IP with [[Trolls, tools and other rejects#Lord Raffles|Lord Raffles]].

==Wahba==
Some insane bastard who exploited a forum bug, making hundreds of topics. After he was banned, [[Alex]] made a few changes, including the 1 post per minute rule.

Later on, [[Osmose]] admitted to being Wahba, in conjunction with another member, Chaotic Paradox. Osmose claims that he did it to illustrate the glaring flaws in the forum system, and does not regret the security gained by the 1 Post Per Minute rule.

==Lord Raffles==
A troll whose only desire was to troll that appeared in 2005 or something. He and [[Darkfox]] developed a thing between each other, which makes the former hate the latter with a passion. He also thinks DF is like the King of Charas, where as he's just a moderator.

After making many accounts he eventually invited some of his friends to join in. Namely Jack and MissManners, but most notably [[Trolls, tools and other rejects#Saint Lucifer|Saint Lucifer]]

==Saint Lucifer==
Saint Lucifer is probably the most well known of trolls, despite his moderately short stay. His trolling technique was rough and hard. He also holds the record for the fastest ban on Charas ever.

Trevlac

===The Test===
Trevlac was a non-renowned member until one fateful night in late 2005. A Moderator election was held for the '''All of All''' forum. After much voting and drama had ensued, Trevlac came out on top of the election and was granted moderation by [[Alex]]. However, the road ahead would not be an easy one for the new member. [[Apex]] hatched an evil plan to test the noobly Trevlac's worth. All of the current members participated in a large spam and flaming thread in which there was no recovery. Trevlac instantly locked the thread and was told he had "passed".

===The Reign===
Shortly after the test on Trevlac, a rogue group of charas members formed a secret organization with the sole priority of taking him out of office. They posted several spam threads to which Trevlac quickly and decisively shut down. Soon, however, the moderator began closing relatively normal threads and refusing to re-open them at the request of the community. This earned him the name '''The Executioner'''. Amongst waging a war on spam and all things useless, Trevlac and his co-moderator Reain_ also deleted a hefty history of charas in the All of All forum. It was their belief that it would "clean up the forum", but in fact it only further enraged the community and Alex.

===The Fall===
Trevlac's reign came to an abrupt end in early 2005 when [[SaiKar]] was newly appointed Administrator of Charas. A part of the community was pushing for Trevlac's instant dismissal from office while another part wanted him to remain a moderator since Reain_ had recently resigned for personal reasons. SaiKar decided that the best course of action was to fire Trevlac and it was done. [[Carmen]] and [[Red Giant]] took his place as the new All of All moderators with open arms from the community.

===Mortal Enemy===
It is said that the mortal enemy of Trevlac was [[Trolls, tools and other rejects#Lord Raffles|Lord Raffles]] due to several occasions where Trevlac was pwned by this forum troll. It was not, however, released to the public that Trevlac was actually a friend of Lord Raffles (whos network of Charas friends extended far into the active members).

Later in Charas history, a member named [[Trolls, tools and other rejects#Lord Raffles|Col. Mustard]], who was believed to be Lord Raffles, donned the persona of the popular [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluedo Cluedo] character '''Colonel Mustard''' and Trevlac followed suit by donning the persona of '''Professor Plum''' in order to stop this evil murderous madman.

==Reputation==
Trevlac is known for his '''pwning''' of the other Charas members. On one such occasion, [[Midnight]] had been on her usual three month '''period''' and mouthed off repeatedly to members. Trevlac called her a '''bitch''' and shortly after, much drama ensued. He also went under the alias Koori_Ryu for a time and attempted to play as a female member. '''Detective''' [[Ghost Clown]] caught him and sent Trevlac off with his tail between his legs. For most of charas, you either love Trevlac or hate Trevlac; or you think he's "okay".

Recently, Trevlac has been a forum phantom. He disappears off the face of the Earth and reappears only to quickly '''pwn''' someone and then vanishes for at least another month or two. No one knows if it is the ghost of Trevlac or if he is still alive.

Dragonium is a member of the Charas Project, who registered in February 2005. He is one of the relatively small number of British Charas Members. Upon joining the forums, he was a [[N00b]], making a number of pointless threads and spam posts which had nothing to do with the topic being discussed.

Due to connection problems, Dragonium left the forums in early 2006. He later returned, in August 2006, a reformed and no longer n00bish character.

== Contributions to Charas ==

Dragonium has been credited with a number of items which have been of great importance to Charas. These include the creation of the critically-acclaimed [http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=12671&forumid=30&catid=6 Dancing Sabin], numerous spriting threads, posts in the [[Charas Pub]], a tutorial explaining types of armour, a thread for his game Radiance, a number of RPs which he is known for, and an unhealthy obsession with quoting [[Drace]].

He has also provided Charas with several highly opinionated rants against Final Fantasy VII and [http://editthis.info/charas_project/DarkFlood2 Nintendo Fanboys], and to this day still claims that [http://www.mastodonrocks.com "Mastodon beats everything"].

== Competition ==

Dragonium was a candidate in the Test and Welcome Moderator Elections. Due to his tireless campaigning to gain the trust of the community (As well as support from [[Trevlac]] and the fact that virtually everyone failed to make a convincing smear campaign against him), Dragonium recieved many votes. However, in the end he was beaten by [[MrMister]] and came 2nd. Dragonium later admitted that MrMister would have been a better candidate for the position anyway.

He also took part in the [http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=18751&forumid=21&catid=4 Charas Smiley Contest], but again was beaten at the last moment and came 2nd.

Some speculate that Dragonium will eventually win something.

He became a Request mod, then All of All mod, and finally Administrator of the forums. Though he owns nothing on the site directly, he generally takes care of affairs when [[Alex]], the site owner, is not around. Which is all the time basically.

==Charas History==

===Early Days===
Harvey joined Charas under the login SaiKar upon suggestion of his friend to share his battlecharacter sets that he had created for his own game. Receptions to the sprites was very positive and Sai started to get requests, which he answered for a time before burning out. Sai joined the [[VG Reapers]], the largest spriting group on Charas at the time. The image of someone trying to help the community was enhanced with Sai tried to solve the [[RRWP]] vs [[Gary Kertopermono|Gary]] arguments that were raging at the time. When Alex decided to appoint new moderators, Sai was appointed [[Moderator]] of the [[Requests]] forum on Feb 29, 2004. Some of his policies set in the Requests forum are still in use today.

===Growing Power===
No data exists on when it happened, but some time in May/June Sai was appointed as an [[All of All]] moderator along with [[Darkfox]], but resigned from All of All moderator on July 23rd, 2004. The actual reason wasn’t public knowledge until now, but it was in reality him being tired of cleaning up after Darkfox; the latter was starting a great number of personal feuds at the time that were spilling into the forum.

When the first global moderators were chosen, Sai was on the list but declined Alex due to growing real life concerns. Yet he saw the general state of Charas deteriorating under Darkfox and Kijuki’s global modship; the former has already been discussed and the latter was much more well-minded but rarely around when he was needed. [[Reain]] and [[Trevlac]], new All of All mods, were also doing little. In his panic, Sai sent a private message to Alex asking for a global moderator position himself. Instead, Alex made him an [[Administrator]]; someone with access to the control panel to appoint moderators, create new forums, and ban members!

===Quarrels with the Staff===
Darkfox immediately objected to SaiKar’s insane jump of power, making many accusations of impending power abuse. Several other moderators murmured in discontent, but with Alex supporting Sai nothing really could be done.

Sai took over his duties rather quickly. When Reain resigned as All of All moderator, Sai organized a public election to replace him. He also fired Trevlac for continued lack of presence and expanded the election to two winners. [[Red Giant]] and [[Carmen]] became part of the staff as All of All mods.

For many months afterward Sai was playing Final Fantasy XI, an online game that takes up the full screen. As such Sai wasn’t on the site very much and missed several rather important events, such as the coming of [[Lord Raffles]]. The staff ([[GhostClown]] and Carmen in particular) grew discontented with his lack of being around and began to criticize his policies, claiming he was “out of touch.” Which, to be fair, had some truth to it. The staff often complained at his actions, saying that Alex wanted him to run everything by the private forum first, and yet other staff members went ahead with their policies and complained of “ganging up” when they were called on it later. Some called for a new administrator but there weren’t any willing candidates that could be trusted. The staff became polarized and no meaningful decisions were made as a group, and the progress of the site stagnated.

===The New Charas===
However Carmen and GhostClown’s policies were not terribly well liked and they made a number of enemies, in particular [[Osmose]] and [[Midnight]]. They had a heavy-handed moderation style to them, and eventually people got rather annoyed at things being locked or deleted for no real particular good reason. [[Robotam]] approached Sai’Kar and asked for his permission to start an investigation. Sai granted it, seeing a public hearing as a good way to get rid of his rebellious staff.

Public opinion strongly sided against the two and Sai made his decision to remove some of Carmen’s powers in the infamous [[Charas Judgment]] on March 17th. Co-conspirators Osmose and Midnight were appointed moderators on March 22nd. Many new policies on why threads would be locked and the future were introduced. GhostClown and Carmen retired shortly afterward.

This point essentially marks the time when Sai took a much more active role in the development on Charas, now that he had a staff that wouldn’t fight him on every point.

===The Troll Invasion===
TrollKingdom began sending trolls to stir up trouble on April 9th, mere days after the little revolution. Essentially, the entire reason there was a [[Troll Invasion]] was because Sai got sick of having to cross-check IPs and writing styles and always be on active alert to ban troublemakers. In order to counter the trolls tactics, a new forum [[Sanctuary Fortress]] was established to discuss the situation and try to keep the general population from making the situation worse. Behind the scenes, almost four solid days of MSN chats between staff members tracked down the source, located another forum that had been attacked, and tracked down of Alex to implement an IP ban feature.

On April 13th the trolls were still coming despite everything done, and, weary of constantly being ready to ban someone, Sai authorized a Charas flood on TrollKingdom, the only such action in Charas’s history, of which many are thankful for.

Bizarrely, the attack stopped the invasion, but Charas itself was fragmented by the actions. The situation was made worse when Sai took a few days off. People accused him of acting irresponsibly, of abandoning the forum. Sai decided to resign as administrator, but was talked out of it at basically the last moment by Midnight. Eventually everyone calmed down anyway.

===Aftermath to Present===
Other stuff happened, but nothing of it really defining of Sai, and so I’ll leave what happens next for a history article. Sai is still the administrator and still deals with stuff on occasion, and there haven’t been any sightings of lynch mobs in record time!

==Personality Stuff==

===Administrative Style===
Sai occasionally preaches a “new Charas” style of administration; rules designed so that the members don’t need the moderators and function on their own. This rarely works in practice as there is often someone out to stir up trouble or oblivious to the fact that they’re being annoyed. But it’s a goal!

SaiKar is something of a narcissist and enjoys typing up large triumphant speeches whenever possible to introduce a new forum feature or some judgment on a current issue. If anyone actually reads these speeches is unknown.

Sai administers the site mostly from afar, letting individual moderators handle as many problems as they can and work them out without management hanging over their heads. However when the situation gets out of control Sai has no problem diving into the action, often in the form of another big speech. Generally people listen when Sai gets involved; those that don’t tend to get threatened, or worse.

Sai believes he is a fair administrator, though since he’s writing his own wiki article that’s hardly unbiased.

===Art and Programming===
Sai is a spriter and dabbles in making all sorts of resources for RPGMaker, though his best and most commonly known one is battlecharacter sets. He has made at least 15 sets based off of either Mack and Blue characters or generated characters from scratch and about the same number of RTP characters with added attack animations and status effect poses. He submitted a few resources to the battlecharacter generator.

Sai is also an artist, but a bad one. He never practices to get any better and occasionally complains about this. Perhaps ironically, at least a dozen people are better at drawing Sai'Kar than he is.

He has been working sporadically on several RPGs over the years. Control of Destiny 2 is a traditional questing RPG and is what the vast majority of his spriting work was created for. Outpost was an experiment in sim to manage a city that was partially successful. Control of Destiny Tactics is a more recent project to create a Final Fantasy Tactics-type engine that is still in the development phase (and by the looks of it will be there for a very long time to come).

===Friends===
Midnight and Osmose are Sai’s two closest friends on the site and are largely responsible for him not going nuts at some point and retiring for good. Over the years they have acted as advisors to Sai in making administrative decisions and the three clocked about 34 trillion hours in MSN chats since becoming friends. Realizing that they were essentially the “power behind the throne”, he finally gave in to their constant nagging to make them real moderators during the Charas Judgment. They were both given weak positions so that nobody would complain about appointing friends as mods too much, and then both upgraded of All of All mods, the positions they currently hold.

SaiKar is generally good friends with most of the rest of the moderation staff, particularly [[Warxe PhoenixBlade]], [[Razor]], and [[FFL2and3rocks]]. There isn’t really anyone on the site that Sai strongly dislikes anymore.

To the best of his knowledge, Sai is the only part of the moderation staff that Alex trusts explicitly.

===The Sai’Kar Character===
SaiKar’s login is based on Sai’Kar, a female character in the RPG Control of Destiny 2 that he has been working on for the past forever. Sai is probably one of the most recognizable faces on Charas, and several forum members have included Sai in their own arts of work.

===Gender Confusion===
Because of his female avatar, many '''many''' people thought he was a girl, and it's a common mistake even recently. It is rumored (and almost certainly true) that the "gender" field of the Charas profile was added because so many people thought Sai was a girl in real life.

===Historical Trivia===

* In the original battlecharacter request topic, Sai only fulfilled three of four actual requests before quitting. But the reputation as a spriter stuck for years and was only really replaced by a reputation as part of the staff.
* Sai actually “hacked” into threads in the private forum and also read private messages by using URL abuse. Sai told Alex both of these things after a time, who patched up the bugs.

Rendersa was a spawn of a popular forum game called [[Big Emerald]]. The game, originally created by Moiledzep, was altered into a serious RP by [[Weregnome]] and [[Razor]].

The Story basically revolved around the idea of the Big Emerald being a almighty weapon. However, to control this weapon, powerful stones, known as Rendersa, were needed to power it. Various groups, created by Charas members, fought for control of the Emerald for whatever purposes.

===The Characters and People===

[[Weregnome]] and [[Razor]] - They used characters based on themselves. However, Weregnome had created another group of villians who were frequent in the series. However, Weregnome can only remember two characters, The Puppet Master and Cassdion.

[[Warxe PhoenixBlade]]- Warxe had a series of characters who had a ship named the Bullet. However, Weregnome can only remember Warxe and Zero, so Warxey boy needs to come and edit this section.

[[Osmose]]- Moose had a few characters by what can be remembered. If correct, his character was based from Morrowind. However, this could have been someone else..

[[Apex]]- Apex had a character which was continously pwned throughout the RP.

Dragonium is a member of the Charas Project, who registered in February 2005. He is one of the relatively small number of British Charas Members. Upon joining the forums, he was a [[N00b]], making a number of pointless threads and spam posts which had nothing to do with the topic being discussed.

Due to connection problems, Dragonium left the forums in early 2006. He later returned, in August 2006, a reformed and no longer n00bish character.

Dragonium has been credited with a number of items which have been of great importance to Charas. These include the creation of the critically-acclaimed [http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=12671&forumid=30&catid=6 Dancing Sabin], numerous spriting threads, posts in the [[Charas Pub]], a tutorial explaining types of armour, a thread for his game Radiance, a number of RPs which he is known for, and an unhealthy obsession with quoting [[Drace]].

He has also provided Charas with several highly opinionated rants against Final Fantasy VII and [http://editthis.info/charas_project/DarkFlood2 Nintendo Fanboys], and to this day still claims that [http://www.mastodonrocks.com "Mastodon beats everything"].

Dragonium was a candidate in the Test and Welcome Moderator Elections. Due to his tireless campaigning to gain the trust of the community (As well as support from [[Trevlac]] and the fact that virtually everyone failed to make a convincing smear campaign against him), Dragonium recieved many votes. However, in the end he was beaten by [[MrMister]] and came 2nd. Dragonium later admitted that MrMister would have been a better candidate for the position anyway.

He also took part in the [http://http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=18751&forumid=21&catid=4 Charas Smiley Contest], but again was beaten at the last moment and came 2nd.

Some speculate that Dragonium will eventually win something.

Throughout Charas' history, there have been many names that have attempted to disrupt the peace in the forums. While most of them do not succeed in that right, they do often create a hectic atmosphere, gaining the attention of many a member and making work for the moderators.

A persistant pest whose FF5 chipset edits haunt complete resources.

==kAiRoU==
Once a moderator, but then went crazy at something. He spammed the forums, mostly by copying large amounts of text from somewhere and then pasting them into new threads. After he released his password (while he was still moderator) to the people, he was banned by Alex.

He later came back as Lighting Half Dozen, asking for redemption. Then he later came to be a quasisemiregular.

Currently unable to sign in due to losing his password.

==pop==
[[pop]] was a friend of [[White Dwarf|White Dwarf's]] who showed him Charas. pop then blackmailed White into making him an account. He decided that instead of contributing to the community, he would just spam the hell out of it. So he did. He got a ban.

It didn't stop there though. Afterwards, two other accounts were made, '''pop 2''' and '''pop3'''; pop 2 was banned for spamming, but pop3 wasn't as that account was never used. Later it was revealed that pop 2 was actually pop's younger brother, trying to make him feel better, and [[Apex]] made the third account, for the lulz. [[Red Giant#Bizarre Troll Connection|More on that, here]].
Strangely, he shared an IP with [[Trolls, tools and other rejects#Lord Raffles|Lord Raffles]].

==Wahba==
Some insane bastard who exploited a forum bug, making hundreds of topics. After he was banned, [[Alex]] made a few changes, including the 1 post per minute rule.

Later on, [[Osmose]] admitted to being Wahba. Most likely he did it for the lulz.

==Lord Raffles==
A troll whose only desire was to troll that appeared in 2005 or something. He and [[Darkfox]] developed a thing between each other, which makes the former hate the latter with a passion. He also thinks DF is like the King of Charas, where as he's just a moderator.

After making many accounts he eventually invited some of his friends to join in. Namely Jack and MissManners, but most notably [[Trolls, tools and other rejects#Saint Lucifer|Saint Lucifer]]

==Saint Lucifer==
Saint Lucifer is probably the most well known of trolls, despite his moderately short stay. His trolling technique was rough and hard. He also holds the record for the fastest ban on Charas ever.

A moderator is assigned to a forum by the administrator or webmaster; typically, this has been through a vote in the [[Private]] forum, although there have been cases where [[moderator elections]] have taken place. Regardless, popular opinion has almost always determined the moderators chosen - this is seen as a mixed blessing by some.

Once assigned a forum, the moderator's job is to keep order in that particular forum. To this end, they have special "powers" that they can use at their discretion:

*Locking and unlocking threads. This prevents anyone from posting in said thread, but does not delete it outright, in case there is a chance that the thread may be salvageable.
*Deleting specific posts or entire threads. Post deletion is available to all members, but only to their own posts - moderators can delete any person's posts. This is typically used when the post is [[spam]]. Thread deletion is only supposed to be used as a last resort.
*Moving threads. If a thread is made in the wrong section, a moderator can move it to the correct section. This can also be used to move locked threads to the [[Junk Bin]].
*Stickying and unstickying threads. "Stickied" threads always appear at the top of the forum page they're in, and are mostly reserved for rules.
*Viewing the [[Private]] and [[Quarantine]] forums, which are both reserved for the staff only.
*Using the IP Check tool. This can be used to check all of the IPs that a forum member has used in the past, and is useful for determining who has a double account.
