RPG Maker (also known as RPG Tsukuru) is a computer program that allows users to create their very own RPG, in the style of the 16-bit RPGs commonly seen on the Super NES or Sega Genesis. It uses a point-and-click based engine, which is easy to learn but is versatile enough to create truly complex systems. The most well-known RPG Makers are RPG Maker 2000, RPG Maker 2003 and RPG Maker XP, all for use on the PC; however, there are RPG Maker programs available on other platforms as well.

It has many ready to go materials to work with to make your very own role playing game called the RTP or real-time-package.

Supported on many formats and videogame platforms (sony psx and pcs everywhere), many people have tried to translate this Japan-only program only to get sued for piracy. Don miguel was well noted for distrubuting the most illegal coipies on the net before getting caught. He may be the same guy that made idraw3. Thus, charas-project.net does not allow links to websites that carry the program in its translated form for free. Although I personally think ones translated by rpgadvocate are the most safe and relible.

The most widely used versions of Rpgmaker are Rm95, 2000, 2k3, and XP. Charas again, does not provide links to these programs, but has a wide knowledge on how they work.

Differences between the makers are as follows...
+
Super NES
-
Rm95 was the first of the pc based Rpgmakers but I know little about it along the lines of its make up and features. "RM95 was the first Microsoft Windows-based RPG Maker released, in Japanese from the ASCII company. Despite being an early version, Rpg Maker 95 had both a higher screen resolution, and higher sprite and tile resolution than the later version of Rpg Maker 2000." (from wikipedia.org)
+
Game Boy Advance
-
Rm2000 is the second of the rms and is still widely used today. It features a database to store your resourses (limit:5000) and can use midis and maybe mp3 files (not too sure about those). It supports images for all the resourses in many formats .bmp, .png, and .xyz to name the three most common.
+
Playstation and Playstation 2
-
Rpg maker2003 or rm2k3 is the third and the most widely used rpgmaking program, though there is no one legal copy on the net. Unless you want to learn Japanese to use it. It features a much more versitile database and better map organization. It can have up to 5000 switches, items, monsters, and varibles which are much easier to understand due to the fact it is now conditional branch and not fork condition. Later versions are able to support mp3 files(v.1.08 and higher?).
+
Other platforms
-
The last and final Rm is RmXP, made for windows XP (and vista I think). Although it has 32 bit graphics and isometric, people prefer the look and feel and not to mention the easy to use nature of Rm2k3 and its cousin 2000. RmXp has scripting features that weren't in its predecessors and can use the Ruby program. It doesn't have The easy to use event coding as in rm2k3 and the battle system, is disliked by the masses for having a ps(phantasy star series) feel or FFL (Final Fantasy Legend) feel to it. Like Rpg2k3 it can use mp3 files but from the get go.

This article is a stub. It is not long enough.
Please add more info until this article is long enough.

This article requires a clean up. Bad.
Please edit this page so it looks a lot nicer or at least goes along with the general theme of the wiki (unorganised chaos).
