History
Origination
In early 2010, Chairman of the Global Backyard Wrestling Nation alliance, Rad Hazard, sanctioned a GBYWN championship in Australia known as the GBYWN Australian Heavyweight Championship. At AWGP's SuperSlam event, Zac Shaw, one of Queensland Backyard Wrestling's longest serving roster members, defeated Crimson Genocide to become the inaugural champion.
Title Details
The physical championship belt was homemade by Atticus Floyd, originally used as the nWd Tag Team Championship and was to be the Pro Federation, ACWA's version of the Smashmouth Championship. The physical belt returned to active service when AWGP re-activated. In 2011, the physical belt will be the ACW version of the 'Smashmouth Championship'.
Controversy
On May 30, 2010, Keiran Shaw won the vacant AWGP International Championship and thus, the GBYWN Australian Title was unified with the belt to create the AWGP-GBYWN Global Championship. It was mistakingly beleived that the title became inactive but after a breif period of confusion, then GBYWN Championships President Rad Hazard acknowlaged the recently activated version of the title in Inner City Wrestling Syndicate would be the only version of the title effectivly stripping AWGP of the belt without informing AWGP of the decision. GBYWN President Cam, declared the AWGP version of the title the official version however Hazard refused to listen to calls. AWGP and ICWS Owners agreed on a spilt title, AWGP's being represented as the East Coast Vesion and the ICWS's as the West Coast version of the championship with a new lineage. AWGP Management made it quite clear that the orginal version of the title was still active as the AWGP Global Championship was still represented by both belts. In late-October 2010, then AWGP Global / GBYWN Australian Champion Warren Terra split the championship back to its original configuration. The original lineage continued with Infringment becoming the first seperated champion. So for the final months of 2010, two versions of the Australian Heavyweight Championship are recognised. East Coast's in AWGP and West Coast's in ICWS. The East Coast version of the championship was retired on December 6 2010 leaving only the west coast version as the active title.
In late December 2010, AWGP set their Australian Title on fire as apart of their finale as a message to Rad Hazard about how embaressed and angry they were with the entire situation. GBYWN released Hazard from his duties as GBYWN Championships Manager citing the Australian Title controversy as a major factor of their decision. The Australian Title remains active under the Global Backyard Wrestling News promotional body via the (unofficial) Australian Branch.
