Captain Iphigenia Maximillienne Fenway McCannon

Admin:

At a glance: Captain Iffy McCannon is a trigger-happy, cheerful airship captain under command of Her Majesty the Queen. Some consider her a bit of a joke. Her prowess lies in firearms, being nice, and not realizing the gravity of situations at inopportune times.

Early History
Iphigenia Maximillienne Fenway McCannon was born above Chicago at the English-States Coalition Airbase to Wright McCannon, English pioneer of the Auto-Magic Omelette Maker, and Delaney Cooper, an Irish bibliophile. Spending most of her early childhood in London (when not traveling with her parents), Iphigenia schooled herself. During frequent visits to World's Fairs, Iphigenia often returned to America. She met Jerry Yarder, an aspiring engineer, when she was sixteen. A short and casual romance sprung between the two, but Iphigenia was jilted one summer when she was 17, when Jerry discovered Laurel Patterson - a stunning, blonde beauty, and the niece of Wright McCannon's arch-nemesis, Thomas Patterson. Astonished and upset, Iphigenia made plans to be courted by Tom Patterson, Thomas' son, however, Iphigenia and Tom soon gave up after realizing that they felt thoroughly icky being lovers. After this disaster, Iphigenia has not had very much in the way of romantic relationships - nad by "not very much", I mean "not at all".

On her eighteenth birthday, she received news that her parents were killed in an explosion, accidentally caused by the Brigadier Spenser Hawkes-Leggett (though she doesn't know he's the culprit yet). She then enrolled in the American air force as Max McCannon, working her way up to the rank of Sergeant. This was when she realized she really, really enjoyed weaponry. When she was 25, she was conked on the head by a piece of flying debris, and was sent to the British army in order to recoup. The British set her up with the bullshit job of Captain of the Potential Space Exploration Unit. Her first assignment was to find an adept crew.

The HMS Ziggurat
The HMS Ziggurat was conceived by McCannon and is constantly under construction, in order to be fit for space. Armed with this ship, McCannon scoured the known earth for a crew. She first bumped into the Brigadier Spenser Hawkes-Leggett at a tea party and luncheon in Edinburgh. The two made quick friends and he was assigned the position of First Mate. He referred to her as Iffy, eventually making McCannon known more by her first name rather than her middle.

Iffy McCannon then met Adelaide Braun at a bar brawl in San Francisco. Learning that Braun was an adept botanist and a fair map-reader, McCannon offered her the position of ship's Navigator.

Joining the unholy trinity were Estella Griffin, seamstress, Nathaniel Smith, engineer, and Nate Bently, master of officers.

Relatives
Delaney Cooper's mother, Molly Cooper, was a part-time washerwoman, and her father, Harold Cooper, owned a pub. Delaney had two siblings, sisters named Trista and Annabel. The McCannons have very little to do with the Coopers, and Iphigenia has only met Molly.

Wright McCannon's father was illustrious British war hero Aloysius McCannon. Illustrious, that is, until the Johannesburg Incident - they don't like to talk about it, but it involves a herd of angry albino elephants, a crate of cigars, and several thoroughly unhappy infantrymen. Aloysius moved to Connecticut with his wife, Mabel, after the incident. Mabel died of the consumption several years ago, leaving Aloysius slightly mad, but in the most pleasant of ways. When Iphigenia served in the American air force, she often returned to Aloysius' Connecticut estate for rest.

Currently
Iffy and her crew are crashed on an island in the British Isles, inhabited by Incas and a mad anthropologist, in The Daring Adventures of the HMS Ziggurat: Volume 1.

Notable Quotations
Of course I'm the worst captain ever, why do you think I'm in command of the S.S. Failboat here?

I'M SURROUNDED BY AMERICANS!

Currently residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, Captain McCannon (real name Andi) is a writer, artist, theatre kid, programmer, steampunk (like that needed saying), and all-around geek. The Brass Goggles wiki was created by her, though credit for the idea goes to MPsy.

When not prancing about in steamy militaria and whacking Adelaide Braun and Hawkes-Leggett upside the head, she can be seen geeking it up on the æthernet, getting punched in mosh pits, writing, skanking, playing video games, and blowing shit up with her blunderbuss pistol, Philly.

She has been published numerous times in Teen Ink, as well as in local literary magazines and online publications.

The Complete Adventures of the HMS Ziggurat

The year is 1889, and Captain Iphigenia McCannon is still in the employ of Her Majesty's Royal Air Force, attending to the (utterly useless) job of being Head of the Potential Space Travel Unit. However, a rather serious problem has arisen in this originally ridiculous division: The last known generator of cendium, the lightweight, alterable, and utterly flame-retardant gas that makes the HMS Ziggurat fly, has gone missing. Not really believing that the cendium generator can be found, they dispatch Iffy and her crew to go find it. But they didn't count on her locating it - and its inventor, too. And they certainly didn't bank on her uncovering the vast space conspiracy hidden underneath the Air Force's illustrious ranks.

Steampunk Superheroes

Admin — Wed, 23 Jul 2008 05:30:08 GMT

Admin:

This was a story originated by Captain McCannon, and is currently in progress. It follows one Arlett Lynchwood, a young lady whose supervillain parents are killed by para-peelers - elite, winged, raygun-toting policemen, dedicated to clearing London of any and all supervillains - and heroes. Upon being forced to accept the fact that her parents were mustache-twirling villains who rampaged around London in huge, iron colossuses (well, one of them had a mustache anyway), Lynchwood takes it upon herself to continue her parents' slightly diabolical plan to fix the strange and crazy world that London has become. She also is forced to use her superpower, which, until now, she thought was utterly useless - The ability to rearrange words, or, as she puts it, "makin' and fixin' typos".

Fairly new to the steampunk community, Andi previously led lives as an indie kid, punk, cartoon fangirl, and goth (in reverse chronological order) - however, she's always had a geek heart inside.

She has been published twice, in Teen Ink poetry magazine, and The Metonymist, her local literary magazine. She is currently vying for a humorous short story of hers to appear in Steampunk magazine, as well as hurriedly editing her two novels so they are fit to send to publishers.

The Daring Adventures of the HMS Ziggurat: Volume 1

Admin — Wed, 23 Jul 2008 04:29:59 GMT

Admin:

RP status: Active.

Backstory & Setting
The small, newly-formed crew of the experimental dirigible HMS Ziggurat are taking their first flight, from Edinburgh to London, as a sort of test. Encountering engine trouble, they are forced to crash-land on an island with some curious stone structures. Upon landing, they are discovered by a group of oddly dressed people of a complexion and appearance that is entirely new to them. These people are Inca, "imported" by a mad anthropologist with hopes of dominating Britain. In addition, he's kidnapped a few Scottish, English, and Irish farmers to be the slaves of his civilization, so that they can get used to dominating the British, as he wants them to do eventually. He has given the Inca steam technology and allows their society to develop as it will, observing all the while from his lair carved into a mountain, protected by a small army of henchmen.

A Brief Summary of What's Happened So Far
Discovering that the Ziggurat was descending at a rapid pace rather than sailing merrily, Captain Iphigenia McCannon orders the crew to prepare emergency landing procedures. A parachute maneuver is attempt, and works somewhat. Ropes are fashioned and the crew begins to get down from the airship, which is stuck high in the tropical trees. Angelo Giovanni is sent out to scout. Estella Griffin, ship's seamstress, and Nathaniel Smith, engineer, assess the damage. They discover that the balloon's threads have been substantially weakened by bleach. Adelaide Braun, navigator, finds that they've landed among tropical trees.

Barely able to recoup after crashing, the crew is soon surrounded by irate Incas. The Captain, upon seeing that they are heavily outnumbered, gives orders to flee. Estella and Nate Bently are captured almost immediately by Incas. The Captain and the Brigadier Spenser Hawkes-Leggett, First Mate, manage to escape, but only momentarily - they are apprehended by natives, who injure Iffy in the hip and head, and Hawkes-Leggett on his temple, then hold them in a dungeon. Giovanni meets Maytac, Inca, learns that they are on the Island of Doctor Kane, and promptly switches sides. Nathaniel Smith is tied to a pole and thrown with Bently.

The captives are taken to a huge, stone palace, where they are welcomed by Huascar Capac, Inca leader. Capac saw them arrive in a vision, and referred to them as the "chosen ones". Servant girls feed them exotic goodies. The Captain & First Mate still hang in the dungeon, only now they are upside-down.

Emmeline Finnegan

Admin — Wed, 23 Jul 2008 00:02:00 GMT

Admin:

Emmeline, a redheaded woman with an array of smears and cuts on her face due to wear and tear, led a nice and happy life in England, up until the part where her husband cheated on her with the harlot who lived downstairs in the townhouse next door. Feeling only a bit of gratification at the fact that her husband had been turned into a werewolf by the same harlot, Emmeline was still absolutely furious, vowing to seek revenge on her husband using primarily vulgar words and a large blunderbuss. Maintaining income by being a seamstress in her house during the day, Emmeline goes out at night, searching for her ex-lover, ready to give him an angry talking-to, as well as several crippling blows to the head. You know what they say about a woman scorned.

HMS Ziggurat

Admin — Tue, 22 Jul 2008 20:39:04 GMT

Admin:

The HMS Ziggurat was an airship vessel originally designed for space travel. It currently does nothing of the sort, however, adventures are had within it nonetheless.

The Ship
A small sketch of the ship is currently in progress. The HMS Ziggurat is a rather different vessel, with an almost Frankensteinian air. It is mostly hacked and cobbled together with ramshackle odds and ends. Two cannons were first affixed, then followed the harpoons, then came the oversized spyglass, then the fish-powered raygun... It was all a mess. The ship is a mid-sized vessel, with luxurious Captain's quarters and office, a rattling boiler, a staff tea room, and assorted nooks with hammocks. The "Navigation chamber" is a janitor's closet, though several maps are kept in the Captain's office. Rumor has it proper crew's quarters are hidden somewhere on the ship, but people who suggest this are dismissed as crazy and thrown overboard.

Crew
The Captain of the Ziggurat and its founder is Captain Iphigenia McCannon. The position of First Mate goes to Brigadier Spenser Hawkes-Leggett and the Navigator and botanist is Adelaide Braun. Other crew members, whether joining the ship for a single mission or otherwise, include(d): Estella Griffin, seamstress; Angelo Giovanni, mercenary; Nathaniel Smith, engineer, and Seaman Nathaniel Bently, crewman and head of officers.

Adventures
The Ziggurat has mostly been flying around trying to find a permanent crew, as it unfit for its original mission at present. It was first flown to Edinburgh for the Annual Æthernauts' Tea & Luncheon, whereupon Captain McCannon met the Brigadier. It then traveled to San Francisco where the Captain met Adelaide Braun.

Upon accruing a full crew for one of the Ziggurat's full test drives (see above for crew list), the Ziggurat promptly crashed upon a small island in the British Isles. Upon further discovery, the island is inexplicably inhabited by Incas, all following some sort of more modern and thoroughly Westernized leader. Currently, Braun, Griffin, Smith, and Bently have been taken prisoner; Giovanni has crossed sides, and McCannon and Hawkes-Leggett are hanging upside-down in a dungeon after being apprehended by angry natives.

Currently residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, Captain McCannon (real name Andi) is a writer, artist, thespian, programmer, steampunk, and all-around geek. The Brass Goggles wiki was created by her, though credit for the idea goes to MPsy.
