Aniei is located in the Tryn galaxy, and is the second planet from the sun Aten. Its climate is dry and hot, with cold nights. The planet is made up of low grassy lands with both low-lying brush and trees whose branches umbrella over the area around them and provide plentiful shade. Game is plentiful, as are the people who inhabit the planet.

Unlike many planets in the Alvarunus, Aniei is home to several different races of Aliens. As known, these races include the Garlok, I'keel, Lagat, Sh'eere and Uotuan peoples. The Sh'eere, I'keel and Uotuan are at peace with each other and band together in times of war and need. The Garlok and Lagat are enemy against each other and the three previously mentioned races.

'''The Garlok'''
Garlocks are the most technologically advanced of the races on Aniei, with crude flying ships and large stone cities, built near oases. They are a noble people and very proud, ruled by a king and usually his sons. All men are warriors or merchants, and all women are left to household chores, though some have had the privilege to become warriors in service of the king.

Garloks have dark brown hair, worn long, and have skin tanned brown by the sun. The lower half is covered in thick brown fur and their legs end in hooves similar to horses'. Their hands have three fingers. The whites of their eyes are bright yellow, and the iris is discernable from them, but the pupils are black and slitted. Males are built much larger than females and have two long spiraling horns on either side of their foreheads. Females are built more slenderly, and their legs end in hooves that are cloven, rather than solid. They too have horns, but these are very small and pointed.

'''I'keel'''
The I'keel come out when the sun begins to set and are for the most part nocturnal hunters. All are brought up to hunt and survive; the I'keel are nomads with no permanent residence of any kind. Children are taught to hunt from a very young age; infants are taken on hunts, strapped to the back of either the mother or the father. Families are not constricted to small groups; an entire "pack" of I'keel will look after the young and old together. They are a peaceful people, but several packs will band together for defense if it is needed.

The large eyes of the I'keel and their lean bodies are ideal for night vision and swift movement. The daytime will find them napping in their tree-hammocks, which are made of strong Minka vines. These hammocks, along with dried meat, tarps, blankets, and stone jugs of water are carried wherever the I'keel travel.

As for clothing and fashion, the I'Keel dress in the skins and furs of their prey. All I'Keel have orange skin of varying hues, and have black stripes on their heads, upper arms and their long, whip-like tails.

[http://silvre.deviantart.com/art/The-I-keel-47523384 Image of an I'Keel male and female]

'''Lagat'''
The Lagat are possibly the most formidable and most feared of the races on Aniei. Their cunning group attacks and stealthy night tactics are indeed impressive, but equally deadly. The only upside to their skill and sheer power on the part of their enemies is that the Lagat are slowly dying out, and are the least populated of the races on Aniei.

Lagat, both male and female, are physically large. Their tremendous limbs make up for their height, which does not exceed six feet. Arms are long; hands have thick, leathery skin, for they often tread on their knuckles when walking. Feet are furred as to make for quiet approaches and departures, but have thick, sharp retractable claws for battle. Shoulders, elbows and broad forehead have spiny ridges; males with bigger forehead ridges are more attractive as mates, while bigger ridges on elbows and shoulders indicate age. Two very wide, spiraled horns start at the corners of the forehead and curl backwards, framing the ears. The length and curl of these horns also indicate age.
Skin is brown, tough and leathery; hair-like fur covers head and lower body and ranges from black to light brown.

Offspring grow very quickly; they reach adulthood within three years. The eldest female Lagat care for the youngest offspring while younger females and both young and old males hunt, fight, and make shelters. Offspring are carried on the wide backs of parents when traveling.

'''Sh'eere'''
The tribes of the Sh'eere are long-time friends of the I'keel. The two races often share camps, watering holes and hunting grounds, and love to trade and bargain with one another.

The Sh'eere are the most Human looking of the races on Aniei, mostly in the appearance of their faces.

Skin is an orange-brown for all Sh'eere, and all hair is worn in the traditional Sh'eere mohawk. Hair is coarse and does not need to be cut often, for it grows slowly; hair color ranges from straw-color to a bright orange-yellow, and is usually tipped with black. Legs are long and hooved, perfect for running and jumping long distances. Eyes are large and sensitive, able to see extreme distances on the low-lying grasslands.

All Sh'eere, even females, have two sets of antlers (though the antlers of the male are much bigger and are used to attract females). Before battles, the antlers are sharpened; all Sh'eere are trained to fight and hunt from a young age, the spear being the preferred weapon. Sh'eere sport colourful, airy clothes that are worn equally for appearance and function. White face paint is often adorned before both battles and celebrations.

[http://silvre.deviantart.com/art/Keela-of-the-Sh-eere-34066621 Example of a female Sh'eere warrior]

'''Uotuan'''
The Uotuan are the most unlike the other races of the planet Aniei, in appearance, habit, and culture.

These long-limbed, bird-like aliens stand well over eight feet tall and are extremely thin. Their diet consists mostly of water and the leaves and bark of the Iting plants which are plentiful on the planet. They have long thin tongues that are used to wrap around the leaves of the Iting plants.

When threatened, males' skin will turn vibrant colours and feathers that are normally concealed on the back of the neck rise up to make him appear larger.

Alania is the third planet in the Rabogad System and is almost entirely covered by water. What land there is consists of islands. Individual homes and even villages are made on these islands, depending on size. Homes are also made on watercraft, and there are a few floating villages made of connected and very stable watercraft which make Alania quite famous.

Besides the floating villages, Alania is more or equally known for its fishing industry. Some of the most delicious and exotic fish are to be found in the seas of Alania. Fishing is the life of Alanians. All are fishermen or craftsmen, and are born with the ability to swim. Unlike other races who use fishing rods and nets, Alanians use spears and their hands. Nets ARe used however, for large quantities to be sold at market.

Alanians are tall and long-limbed, with clawed, webbed fingers and toes. The minority have long tails. They have white hair and pale blue skin, which they decorate with elaborate face paint designs and jewelry. Gold jewelry is important in the culture; specific jewelry on the neck, ankles and tail (if present) are given at a young age to the first-born son of every family, and will be worn his entire life.

A planet in the Tryn System, closest to the sun Aten. Because of its location, the environment of the planet is mostly desert, with low-lying shrubs, and scattered with oases. Most water must be brought up from the ground, but there are lakes, some quite large, throughout the planet. All animals found on the planet are lean, with long legs and ears and store water within their bodies. Plants too retain water, and the sweet Kioi plant serves as a staple food for the people of Aibara.

Aibaras dress in light, brightly coloured clothes, usually in shades of blue and green. Airy footwear like slippers are worn mostly, but for long journeys, boots are preferable. In the case of males, hair is brown and skin is a darkish tan while the eyes are dark or non-coloured, with no distinction between pupil and iris. In the case of females, hair is black but skin is a light pastel-blue; eyes are bright blues or greens.

Gold jewelry is the Aibara fashion; extensive gold mines run around the entire planet and provide the means for such production. The jewelry is worn on the arms in bands of varying types, and in the hair as headbands or pins.

'''The Darkstar Saga''' consists of five novels and several related literary works. All are by Karyn N. Anderson. These works are so far unpublished by their author.

==Darkstar==

Cail Darkstar was only a child when his father and mother were killed by the Ihreakin Overlord. He escaped with his half-brother Olocip who was eleven years his senior. They took refuge with a family friend, Raeg, who owned the local inn. A year later, still distraught by his parents' death, Olocip took to wandering, leaving Cail in Raeg's care.

Cail seldom saw his half-brother. He grew up basically alone and as a result became a recluse, a man of few words and a dangerous fighter. When he was old enough, he wandered himself and made a living by being a bounty-hunter, catching thieves and often killing [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/ADU-Ihreakin#Sevlow_Erem Sevlow Erem] Ihreakin which were common on the planet. After one such encounter with the Sevlow Erem demons in his twenty-third year, Cail sought to spend the night at the inn owned by Raeg. There, and later in the forest, he met a young woman named Rinna Centauri who was being chased by cloaked men in black and trained Sevlow Erem. Once the men witnessed Cail helping the young woman, they assumed him to be her aide and targeted him just as they targeted her.

Suddenly Cail found himself thrust out of his normal lonely lifestyle into a perilous adventure in which he was charged with the protection of Rinna -- and the item she carried.

In her possession, Rinna held The Waker, an ancient and mystical item of unknown and seemingly unlockable power. An Ihreakin leader was after the Waker and the power it held and thus posed a very dangerous and very real threat to Rinna.

Through the trials, dangers and near-death experiences associated with their journey, the Cail and Rinna discovered they held feelings for each other.

After coming across a band called the Wandering Brotherhood, with whom Cail was friends, Rinna and Cail stayed at a tavern for the night. When Cail went to call upon Rinna, he discovered she had been taken.

Upon the timely arrival of his brother Olocip and with the help of the Wandering Brotherhood, Cail tracked down the men who had kidnapped Rinna. His findings led him to the lair of the Overlord who had killed his parents.

After Cail had fought and defeated two extremely strong Sevlow Erem, he fought the Overlord himself. But the Overlord was far too powerful.

As Cail lay dying at the Overlord's feet, The Waker activated and bestowed its power upon Rinna, who became an all-powerful being known as The Sleeper. As The Sleeper, Rinna destroyed the Overlord and his minions.

After she had returned to her normal state and as she held the dying Cail in her arms, Lady Titania, wife of Lord Oberon, king of the Elves and Faeries came to them and took them back to Avalon where Cail was healed.

After Cail had returned to them, Lord Oberon himself summoned them to his throne. He appointed Cail the leader of the Dark Moon, Rinna his second-in-command, and all of the Wandering Brotherhood and Olocip to be officers; they would be charged with ridding the Alvarunus of Ihreakin and saving innocents.

Cail and Rinna were married this same year and later have two children; a son, Tain, and a daughter, Carin.

==The Blade Rider: A Forgotten Past==
Carin Vekina Darkstar and her brother Tain were born to the legendary swordsman Cail and his brave hearted wife, Rinna, who were both officers of an Ihreakin (demon) hunting organization known as the Dark Moon. But when Carin was only eight, they were killed by the Ihreakin Overlord, and she and her brother were flung far from their friends and family in order to escape the same fate.

Not long after, Carin was even taken away from her brother by the scientists collectively known as Z.I.M.G.R.R. Z.I.M.G.R.R. (Zinnar-Ishtar-Manisk-Gage-Rede-Riya) were splicers, changing and mixing DNA, and kidnapping innocent Aliens for unwilling subjects in their experiments. While imprisoned she met Ayon and Rek and grew to love the latter, who had already been spliced, so beyond recognition that his own people would not know who it was if they saw him. He vowed to never let Z.I.M.G.R.R. splice Carin, but was powerless when they chose to do so.

Unlike the other victims, however, Carin did not change in appearance when her splicing was complete, and was deemed a failed experiment. She was drugged with the amnesiac Hisu serum, and left to die in the middle of a desert. She nearly did, but was instead rescued by Queen Rage of the Shadow Force, who took her to the safety of the planet Layor and the Shadow Force Base. There, Carin was treated, trained and housed as a soldier. After being in the service of the Shadow Force for several weeks, the Shadow Force healer, Queen Rage and King Ratheye discovered and informed her that she had been spliced.

Three years later, Carin and the other soldiers of the Shadow Force took part in a battle that lasted two days; during which Carin transformed into an extremely powerful Vampire-like being known as the Vampyrian, for she had been spliced with Vampire DNA by Z.I.M.G.R.R. After the battle was over, Carin cut her hair and asked permission to leave the base to try and gain some of her lost memories.

When she returned one year later, she met up with Ayon, who too had been spliced with the DNA of a Dragon, and with his magical abilities restored her memories. With her past restored, Carin went back to the Shadow Force Base where she recognized one of her closest friends as her uncle, Olocip. With Olocip, she traveled back to the Dark Moons Headquarters on the planet Monev, Tiaaias Hold. There, she met up with the rest of her non-blood family. From the Hold, they traveled to the Z.I.M.G.R.R. laboratories to save Rek and the other experiments being held there.

After the entire affair concerning Z.I.M.G.R.R. was over, Carin was named head of the Dark Moon, and Rek and Ayon joined in as officers.
'''The World of Maw'''

<nowiki>When the great battle for dominance of the Prime Material Plane began between the Incarnations of Good and Evil, Law and Chaos supported both sides while the Non-Aligned Entities stood by to judge the outcome.
The Non-Aligned provided as a battlefield a world composed of a core of Chaos surrounded by a shell of Law, with many tendrils of Chaos reaching the surface. Good and Evil were to pass freely between the surface to the core but as the conflict progressed Good has dominated the surface while Evil controls the core.
The outer layer resembles Earth, but the core is an enormous chaos beast
of shifting passages sprouting arms and legs, claws and tentacles,
= Ihreakin =

What must be firstly understood about the Ihreakin race is that they are not simply animals or Alien creatures that may be treated with some amount of respect and mercy. They are greater demons which will not hesitate to kill and do all other kinds of unspeakable evils.

== History ==

Described as being bred of the worst nightmares and darkest shadows, Ihreakin came into life long before the Alvarunus was widely populated.

When the Universe was created, evil came into it and the most evil being of all was a thing known as an Avajii (Viddhartha in the Elven tongue). It was imprisoned in a box or jar-like container, which became known as Pandora's Box as the centuries passed down the legend. It was buried deep beneath the ground on a planet known as Ireecan, a peaceful lush world.

Over time, as the lands moved and the grounds shifted, Pandora's Box made its way toward's the surface. One fateful day, an Alien who was exploring the planet stumbled upon the box, and opened it.

Slarris, the name that the Avajii gave itself, erupted from his prison and instantly took over the Alien's body. For an Avajii is a parasite that uses Aliens and other beings as hosts. By the time Slarris had finished with the Alien, its appearance had changed drastically, along with its nature. It was now one of the first demons; one of many to come as Slarris jumped from one host to another.

Before too long, the entire planet had been consumed with Slarris' evil. Plants died, the ground grew hard and barren, and all creatures other than the newly formed demons wasted away or were devoured by the demons. Slarris called his demons Ihreakin, after the planet's name, and characterized them into separate groups according to appearances. He named them all and bade them to go out into the Universe, to spread, multiply and destroy.

In the meantime, Slarris needed a permanent host.

Magic was fresh and abundant in those days, and somehow Slarris stumbled upon a portal that led him to Avalon, one of the floating isles in the [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Geography/ADU-The_Third_Realm Third Realm]. After passing through the portal, he found himself in a clearing where he witnessed an argument between two [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Geography/ADU-Elves_of_the_Alvarunus Elves]. These Elves were namely Puck and Scapa, two brothers that were servants of Lord Oberon.

Scapa was jealous of his brother, for he believed that a woman he loved named Tasia favored Puck instead of himself. Slarris took this opportunity, in Scapa's anger, to inhabit the Elf. He nearly killed Puck, but though Scapa was inhabited by the Avajii, the Elf had enough control at the time to transport himself back into the Alvarunus by magic, saving Puck and the isle of Avalon.

In time, Scapa became weak to Slarris' powers and was forced to succumb to the Ihreakin lord. Slarris still inhabits Scapa's body.

== Types of Ihreakin ==

There are ten types of Ihreakin. The following list proceeds in order of strength, the first being the weakest.

==== Sevlow Erem ====

The Sevlow Erem, sometimes called simply "Sevlow" are perhaps the weakst of the Ihreakin, though by no means a weak adversary. They serve as the hounds of other Ihreakin, used for their incredible sense of smell and hearing. Despite being the weakest of Ihreakin, they are useful in attacks against Aliens. The Sevlow Erem's most glaring weakness is their very poor eyesight. They are practically blind, though they make up for it in their other senses. Occasionally, a Sevlow Erem will be born with good eyesight. One such Sevlow was named Rrahka, the "pet" of an Ihreakin hybrid, Overlord Trrihade Underwyng.

There are three sub-types of Sevlow Erem: Forest Sevlow, Arctic Sevlow, and Desert Sevlow. All look slightly similar to wolves; they have fur, pointed and slightly curved ears, sharp teeth and claws. However, their are larger, thinner, longer and leaner than wolves, with tails that bear more resemblance to a lion's and a tongue that resembles that of a snake.

The Forest Sevlow Erem usually travel in packs of twenty to thirty. In rare cases, there may be even more in a pack. They usually have dark brown or black fur, and their blood becomes acidic when in contact with air. [http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/30265766/ example of a Forest Sevlow Erem]

The Arctic Sevlow Erem travel in smaller packs of ten to fifteen. They have very thick white, silver or even bluish fur and their blood turns to ice when it reaches open air. This ice will spread and freeze over

Desert Sevlow Erem have thin reddish orange fur, and upton touching air, their blood ignites and will spread to anything flammable.

==== Tengu ====
Tengu are on the weaker side of the Ihreakin spectrum, barely reaching six feet in height or length without the tail. Their wings, which are tattered and bat-like, have a great wingspan of about fifteen feet. They resemble scaly vultures, for they dwell in trees and prefer dead meat to live victims.

Tengu most often times serve as spies for Slarris and other Ihrakin leaders. They are commanded by Sojobo, also called Rrakanzi.

Tengu rely on aerial attacks, and will remain in the air while they fight. If they perch, it will be above ground; rarely do they touch down on the earth.

==== Furi ====

==== Harpi ====

==== The Crespecular ====

==== Hu Hsien ====

==== Kappa ====

==== Oni ====

==== Formors ====

==== Elementals ====

'''The following Ihreakin are types that do not fit into the above categories.'''

==== Hybrids ====

==== Xirris ====

==== Izalcotl ====
== The Elves of the Alvarunus ==
Elves of the Alvarunus are a varied race, though all share the gift of immortality. They are separated into three subraces: the Idnele, the Râgol, and the Tantill.

== The Idnele ==
The Idnele are "Elves of light" and are servants, followers and "children" of Lord Oberon. These Elves all have very fair complexions, though skin and hair colour varies. Facial hair is not grown, and the skin is always clear and free of blemishes. Their hair colour ranges from silver to gold to blue to black, and their eyes are blue, green or brown; most commonly blue. Appearances vary, depending if the Elf is gifted in a special way. For instance, Forest Elves, which are gifted with control over plants, have fair olive green skin, green hair, and green eyes flicked with yellow.

Most Idnele Elves have the ability to use at least simple magic; many more are powerful magic wielders. The most powerful of the Elves is Lord Oberon, matched only in strength by his younger cousin, King Tiaaia.

== The Râgol ==
The Râgol are Dark Elves, also referred to as the "Dark Ones." These Elves have dark grey coloured skin that varies in shades of darkness, dark black hair, and have brightly coloured eyes that may be maroon, violet, orage, yellow or green. They work, travel and dwell in clans, and are born killers and warriors. All are swift, nible and ruthless; some are trained in sorcery.

The Râgol are sworn enemies to the Idnele, and will not hesitate in most cases to kill one on the spot. Because of the common enemy of the Idnele Elves, Râgol are sometimes companions (the word here is very loosely used) of [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/ADU-Ihreakin Ihreakin]. Most information about Ihreakin and the Dark Moon originated from the [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/Darkstar_Saga Darkstar Saga], written by K. Anderson.

== The Dark Moon ==

The Dark Moon was instituted in the Alvarunus year 505 by Lord Oberon, the king of Elves and Faeries. Prior to the Dark Moon’s establishment, the demons known as [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/ADU-Ihreakin Ihreakin] had grown strong and many in number. The Dark Moon was created in response to this infestation of demons in the Alvarunus and was dedicated to their eradication. Since the year 505, Ihreakin have lived in constant fear of the organization and with good reason.

== The First Dark Moon ==

The first Dark Moon was created in the year 505, shortly after the [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/ADU-The_Battle_of_Juno Battle of Juno]. Lord Oberon named it the Dark Moon to imply that the officers of the team would be undetected in their work (Dark) while spreading light by destroying the Ihreakin demons (Moon). This first Dark Moon was the smallest the organization has ever been. It consisted of Elven Warriors known as the Domha. The officers were as follows:

'''Rigel Antares'''

The leader of the Dark Moon, Rigel was a Desert Elf and possessed power over sand and some heat-centered abilities such as the power to create fierce heat waves. He was married to Lord Oberon’s fifth daughter, Rya, who was the female Element of Air and Wind, and had one daughter, Elanwa. Rigel had all the qualities of a great leader. He was stern but forgiving, a good listener and a great strategist.

'''Siris Antares'''

Siris was second-in-command to his older brother Rigel. He too was a Desert Elf and held the same powers as his brother. Siris was also a good leader, but much more headstrong and outspoken than his brother.

'''Ryven Whitestar'''

Ryven was the quietest and most gentle of the group, though his sweet nature was hidden when fighting was to be done. He was a Night Elf, and had the ability to cloak himself in darkness or light his path with the light of the stars.

'''Vivona Greenleaf'''

Vivona was one of the fairest and most beautiful Elves to behold, and her sweet and caring nature matched her appearance. Being a Forest Elf, she had power over plants of all kinds, and they were drawn to her and helped her in her times of need.

'''Ivi Carinae'''

Ivi was also a Forest Elf and possessed all the powers the title bestowed upon her. She was especially fond of the vine plants and these aided her in her battles against Ihreakin. She was a sharp witted and clever woman; her words were never wasted and were full of wisdom.

'''Astryonyx Centauri'''

Astryonyx was the youngest of them all, though of course would be thought old by Human standards. He was the brightest and most cheerful of them all, and the most eager to fight in battles. A Water Elf, Astryonyx used his power over lakes, rivers, ocean and even the rain to drive Ihreakin back into their shadowy homes.

'''This Dark Moon''' lasted but one hundred years. Around the year 605, all the officers of the first Dark Moon mysteriously vanished. It is presumed they were captured and killed by the Ihreakin they strove so hard to destroy.

== The Second Dark Moon ==
1,489 years passed before a second Dark Moon was formed. During these years, Lord Oberon contimplated and weighed the risks, not wishing to put anymore of his people in danger. But in the year 2094, after Cail Darkstar, Rinna Centauri, Olocip and The Wandering Brotherhood defeated the Overlord Trrihade Underwyng, he saw potential in these individuals and asked them if they would consider banding together against the Ihreakin. Without much hesitation, all of them agreed to defend the innocents against the Ihreakin force.

This slightly larger Dark Moon had ten members.

'''Cail Darkstar'''

'''Rinna Centauri Darkstar'''

'''Olocip Darkstar'''

'''L'an "Riverwolf" Enviri'''

'''Embla'''

'''Loki'''

'''Cerberus Ragnarok'''

'''Arachne Anitinak Ragnarok'''

'''Icarus Serendi'''

'''Sekhmet'''

Despite its supposedly apparent lack of civilization, Monev is one of the most important planets, not only in the Sitra system or the Sivitel, but the Alvarunus; it serves as Tiaaia's Hold, the secret headquarters of [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/ADU-The_Dark_Moon The Dark Moon].

== Overview of the Alvarunus ==
The Alvarunus is one of the two sides of the Universe, the other being the Dracounus, originally created by J. Cabotage. [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Geography/The_Alvarunus-Dracounus_Universe Overview of the Alvarunus and Dracounus]

There are roughly two sides to the Alvarunus Universe, which are referred to as the rural and urban, or '''Patriil''' and '''Sivitel''' sides. These two sides are separated by an enormous asteroid belt known as the Krian Barrier.

Throughout the Alvarunus, '''Jovian''' is the dominant language, though most planets also speak in native tongues. This language, both written and spoken, is named after a kind and powerful king named Jovian that sacrified himself to save much of the Universe from a powerful [http://editthis.info/abnormalia/Characters/ADU-Ihreakin Ihreakin] force.

Closely connected with the Alvarunus are the inhabitants of the Third Realm, primarily Idnele Elves.

== The Patriil Side ==

This rural side of the Universe is much less technologically advanced than the Sivitel side. Animals, rather than Skicars and other vehicles are used for modes of transportation.

The lands of planets on the Patriil side are more fertile and forrested than the planets of the Sivitel sides.

== The Sivitel Side ==

The urban side, commonly reffered to as "the city side" of the Alvarunus is characterized by it's large cities, and advanced technology.

Weapons on this side of the Alvarunus are more likely to be things like guns, while on the Patriil side, swords, spears and the like are more common.

==The Third Realm==

The path between the Third Realm and the rest of the universe is primarily used by the souls of those who have passed on. However, Elves of the Alvarunus also have the ability to cross between Realms.

== The Enchanted Realm ==

A world, parallel to our own, which was created long ago, in order to retain the balance between good and evil in the minds of men. This is achieved by a link which ensures that, when the forces of good within the realm prevail, benevolence is apparent in the minds of men and the world is a calm place, when evil prevails, our world gradually deteriorates into a pool of corruption, war, famine, and our dark side begins to show.

== Environments ==

The environments of the enchanted realm are often similar to those of earth, lush jungles and rain forests, harsh deserts and tundra, but each environment is sustained by more than the earth and the atmosphere, powerful magic runs naturally throughout everything, and a large percentage of the realm’s denizens have the ability to harness this magic.

As well as the familiar environments encountered, there are some locations which cannot be found anywhere other than the enchanted realm, examples including [[Cloud Haven]], a magnificent, “continent” in the sky, held together purely by the will of one of the [[Exalted Ones]], (see article for details).

== The Gates ==

Whilst not accessible by the general population of either world, there are ways through, which one can traverse the dimensional gap between worlds, thus mortals from our world have been known to cross over, and creatures from the enchanted realm have done the same in reverse, giving birth to a great many of our religious beliefs and mythologies. When a gate appears it is literally a gate, or sometimes a door, it is usually an old wooden door with a brick frame and old iron hinges, when the gate opens, there is a blaring light (the colour has been debated and is believed to be dependant on the method and magic used for summoning), the blaring light will often act as a vortex, drawing objects or organism in by force, however it is not unknown for the process to be more peaceful, drawing a life form in like a moth to a flame. The gates have been known to appear, sometimes at random, sometimes as an act of fate, and also when an especially powerful being such as an [[Exalted One]] summons it.

Merpeople have human-type torsos and five to six feet long, scaled, fish-like tails instead of legs. They tend to have a certain amount of scales on their torsos and faces as well, but this, as well as their coloring and the morphology and number of their fins varies widely across the race. Since their colonization onto many new planets, each colony has adapted to the particulars of their ocean environment, and developed into their own subspecies. Even on one planet, however, a substantial amount of variation exists.

They do have hair on their heads, but they keep it short or consistently tied/braided back. Though it may look more romantic to have tendrils of hair flowing through the water, it is a lot easier to see and swim without it. Their intake gills are located in the nose on their face, and the outflow gills are located on the sides of their neck. A merperson's lungs do serve to distribute oxygen, but also double in purpose as an air bladder. They have a greater degree of elasticity and can be consciously expanded and contracted to aid in diving and surfacing. Merpeople also have wide fin-shaped ear fans, in order to gather vibrations passing through the water and direct them towards the ear. Like fish they also possess a lateral line of vibration-sensitive cells going down each side of their tail, with which they can also "hear." These are actually more sensitive and can detect sounds and movements that are smaller and/or farther away than the ears on their heads.

Merpeople are, as expected, deeply in tune with their marine environment. They view themselves as guardians of the seas, and spend much of their time lovingly tending to aquatic life. They enjoy working in tune with above water civilizations to ensure that the ocean is respected and that its resources are used with care. Though lacking the technology themselves to colonize new planets, they have happily been spread across the Dracounus by other races, to serve as stewards of the waters of civilized planets. They also greatly increase the productivity of an ocean, as they farm nearly every bit of the ocean floor, from the rich diversity of shallow coastal waters, to the deep ocean plains. Flora and fauna that normally would be unable to grow in such stringent conditions flourishes under their tender care. The Merpeople keep tabs on the natural cycles of aquatic creatures, and if overfishing or illegal hunting of any kind begins to take place, they will find out. The guilty fishermen will suddenly find that their quarry is nowhere to be found whenever their ships take to the sea.

Naturally, Merpeople have a very strong magical/telepathical control over water. They are especially talented when it comes to manipulating currents and wave/vibration forms. They can also adapt their skills for use in the air and even sometimes the earth; a war against them could prove very costly if they chose to send tsunamis onto the land or incite earthquakes in the continental bedrock. In fact the Merpeople have a legend of a very primitive earth-bound race attempting to make war on a Mer-city that lay just off the coast. According to the legend, their retribution was so complete that they wiped out every member of the race. Whether or not this actually happened is still uncertain - it would not be beyond the Merpeople's power to cover up any archaeological evidence with more earthquakes, or even gather their powers together to generate a volcanic eruption. However, they have yet to make any significant display of violence towards other peoples in a several thousand year recorded history, and have always made it clear that cooperation and peace is their preferred way of life.

Merpeople are also particularly adept at long distance telepathic communication. Their home planet was one of extraordinary size, with at least 75% of it covered in water, and any Merperson can easily [[mindspeak]] with another even if they are separated by half the planet; and it turned out that this was only a tiny sample of what they are capable of. Though most Merpeople do not enjoy long shifts in space, those that are willing are almost always employed in ensuring instant communication between far distant space going ships. The current record for maximum mindspeaking range stands at around 103 light years, and it is held by a Merperson.
