Story
Part 22-1: A New Rising
A few miles off the coast of Rogueport, a ship was sailing through some rough waters. Some of the sailors thought it might be the work of Cortez, but a koopa sailor on there wasn't so sure. A lakitu lookout in the crow's nest saw a whirlpool up ahead, and though they tried to get away, they were sucked in. The last thing the koopa sailor saw was two figures, one round with stubby arms and the other two round shapes with small wings, small appendages and a round shape connected to its head by a spring. The two figures exclaimed that they were free from a cave, with the second saying "kupo".
At Rogueport, Lord Crump was doing his daily routine of going to Podley's place and spending all his money (which no one knows where he gets) on Chuckola Cola ever since Grodus fired him. For nearly a year, Crump has done the same thing. Today was no different... until he noticed the headlines on the newspaper: Grodus, leader of the X-Nauts, had died. Crump was going to become the new leader and usher a new era when he kept reading and saw that the rest of the X-Nauts had also died! Being the only one left, he knew it would be a bit harder than he thought, but then saw an orange dot in the sky he recognized.
Outside Team Flash's office, Lakeep returned with the groceries for him and Zzub (Dryler was a skeleton so he didn't eat), when Crump spoke up behind them, saying that he was the new leader of the X-Nauts and wanted to make them his high-ranking officials. Team Flash simply laughed at him, saying he was more pathetic than they were. Crump said they would be sorry, and left. Team Flash didn't think so.
Part 22-2: Parlor Problems
On the west side of Rogueport, there was a clang near the sewer grate. Some voices were heard inside, saying that something didn't work. There was a poosh, and some foamy water came up. One of the voices had an idea, but then yelled "OW" repeatedly, saying there was some anti-ghost stuff on the grate. The other voice had another idea, and the voice exclaimed "OPEN KUPOME" which also didn't work. Some short, stubby blue arms started trying to get out, when the second voice remembered there was a warp pipe leading above-ground.
Soon the nearby warp pipe acted up and spat up Bloo and Mogmire, with Bloo holding a large bag with a money symbol on it. Mogmire asked what the plan was again, and Bloo began to explain it to him again: Everyone knew Cortez made regularly scheduled trips to Rogueport, but the actual schedule was known by only a few, one of which was Frankie, leader of the Pianta Syndicate. Therefore, they needed to use the coins they had to buy items for a certain code so they can go and see Frankie and ask him the schedule. Since they only needed a few coins and had 60, Mogmire asked some so he could get get conned by someone, but Bloo refused, so instead Mogmire just went to walk around aimlessly and take in the sites while Bloo went to get the information.
Unfortunately, Bloo ended up going into the wrong building, the Pianta Parlor. He was about to leave when Lahla distracted him, luring him in with her cuteness and getting him to use some of his coins. Unfortunately he was bad at the slots in the parlor, and though he hadn't used all his coins, Lahla got him to keep using them until they were all gone and he only had one token left. He was exhasperated, but figured if he got a bunch of tokens he could get an item and sell it for more money. He put the last token in and the slots began: It landed on a red seven, another red seven, and... a pickle.
Part 22-3: The Title Is A Lie
When Mogmire returned to Bloo, he found that Bloo had lost the money and didn't know the schedule. Bloo lied and said he was mugged and the money was stolen by a bandit. Bloo claimed he knew what bandit it was, hoping the bandit in question had money they could take from him, and they went to the Rogueport back alley. They went into a building, expecting to find a bandit, but instead found some snooty, high-class toads, bob-ombs, and a couple goombas. A Bandit in a tuxedo asked what they were doing there, and told them they were at a gentlemen's club... even though everyone else there was a cardboard stand-up. But still, the bandit had stopped robbing people, and was oddly specific about if someone was blaming him for losing some coins.
They returned to the front area and Bloo finally admitted that he had lost the money at the Pianta Parlor. The two of them began to get in an argument that escelated until they just left each other, going separate ways: Bloo went west, while Mogmire went east, but they both had visible concern and disappointment over this. Once Mogmire reached the east side, Crump showed up to greet him, offering him the position of second-in-command to him over the new X-Nauts. Crump said it paid well, and Mogmire agreed, but Crump said they needed to find a large amount of funds first. Mogmire suggested they get it from Cortez, and that they just wait at the docks until Cortez shows up.
Part 22-4: Double Trouble on the Double
Bloo wallowed in depression for a minute, then shook it off and prepared to come up with a new plan. He turned invisible and took a Super Shroom from the Westside Goods shop and began eating, trying to come up with a new plan... when he realized he could've just floated into Frankie's office! He did just that, floating in, and asked for Cortez's scheduled arrivals at Rogueport. Although they weren't getting along well at first, Frankie told Bloo to go check the docks.
At the docks, Cortez's ship was docked. Mogmire said it was a stroke of luck, and he and Crump snuck on. Realizing they meant Cortez's ship was at the docks, Bloo yelled and floated away, though Francesca commented that was the second person to ask about Cortez's schedule that week. Bloo began to float around Rogueport looking for Mogmire, but couldn't find him. He couldn't do it alone, but heard someone say he was never alone and Team Flash appeared to recite their motto.
Noting the part about them working if they're paid well, Bloo asked if they were familliar with Cortez. Dryler remembered something and shook Zzub's shell, causing several items to fall out including an IOU from Cortez. Dryler agreed to help Bloo out due to this, and they went into their hot air balloon and flew off to find Cortez.
Part 22-5: The Chase for Captain Cortez
On the Black Skull, Cortez's ship, Admiral Bobbery looked out to sea. Crump recognized him as a companion of Mario's, and told Mogmire to ignore him and look for the treasure. Bobbery went below-decks and Team Flash's hot air balloon came near the ship. Bloo said the plan was to fight Cortez, and as the ship came closer, Crump and Mogmire and Bloo and Team Flash noticed one another. Crump thought Team Flash was there to join him, but Bloo wanted to tell Mogmire something. Before he could, however, the Black Skull was rocked by a cannonball.
Not far away a battleship came out of the sea, with spikes on the side, and the insignia of a bandit on it. Bloo began to yell, saying "NOT HIM! NOT HIM AGAIN!" Dryler asked who, but before Bloo could tell them, the balloon was hit wit ha cannonball and crashed on the new ship. Bobbery an Cortez came out, and Cortez called his spirit crew, as they were under attack. Mogmire, seeing Bloo crash into the new ship, wanted to help him, but Crump refused, wanting to go get Cortez's treasure. Mogmire decided to leave Crump and go help Bloo, while on the new ship Bloo and Team Flash hid from some bandits. Bloo told them that the ship was definately owned by Boss Bandit.
