While stranded back in Pirate's Grotto, The Yoshi Bodyguards arrived looking for the two koopas. Cortez gladly gave them to them. Zar, however, he tried to keep hidden from them; when they found out he was there, they made an agreement with Cortez to find his stolen skull gem in exchange for Zar's freedom. They were able to take back the skull gem from Popple and return it to Cortez.
