History
When the Phazon outbreak happened, Shuy's sister, Shirl, was one of the victims, having contact with phazon and mutating into a monstrous shy guy. When he finally found her, she was horribly weak from lack of phazon, and Koop tried to keep Shuy from touching her. Koop tried to use some phazon weaponry he had developed to absorb the phazon in Shirl, but the weapons overloaded and exploded. The explosion threw phazon everywhere, infecting Shuy and killing Shirl.
