Koop tried to use some phazon weaponry he had developed to absorb the phazon in Shirl, but the weapons overloaded and exploded. The leader of the YB, Anubis, arrived to bring them back to the YB HQ. Shuy entered a containment field Koop had made and was cured of the phazon. Though he wanted to go out and get revenge for his sister's death, he was convinced to join the YB where he could make more of a difference. They learned that Space Pirates were the ones using the phazon to mutate people and Shuy and Koop went off to find them.
