“For even in the ashes of defeat, we have been able to achieve victory. Not only is the seventh emerald now in our grasp, but the ultimate weapon of the Metal Army is now in our use. We have had much sacrifice, and yet we are stronger for it. Let it be known, from this day forth, that the Secret Society of the X-Nauts has achieved triumph over the most powerful forces in the universe. Let it be known, that Lord Grodus, has risen once again!”
-Grodus, 7-5: Only in Death
Grodus Rising was a single story created by Subsourian used to parallel the X-Naut's quest for the chaos emeralds in Oddtastic Adventure. It is the story of the seventh, lost emerald, and Grodus's attempts to claim it and the ultimate power that comes from all seven. However, in the end, Grodus found another type of power, one which made him one of the most powerful rulers in the universe. Many characters were introduced or reintroduced in this story, and many unrelated plotlines were crossed, impacting their future.

Story
Background/Prolouge: Midst the Chaos
The story begins three months after The Blackest Days, where Lord Crump's inept leadership ended up crushing the X-Naut Armada on Chronis. Grodus has turned to a new master plan; he would distract the enemies of the X-Nauts with a petty territorial squabble, while he would go after the Chaos Emeralds, seven gems used to achieve ultimate power, which had been scattered in their last attempt to steal them in X-Chaos. Grodus had each one of these emeralds tracked, and was preparing to distract the SWDF, when something went wrong.
The Red Emerald, held in a Galactic Federation research facility, was raided by Ultra Stuffwell and his Steel Legion, who took the emerald and destroyed the facility. Grodus caught wind, but could not track the emerald's signature. Grodus sent his newly promoted second in command and close friend, Admiral Stalvick, to Star World's Fahr Outpost in hopes of finding information on the emerald's whereabouts.
Chapter 1: Winter Assault
At first, the X-Nauts tried an all out assault on Fahr Outpost, but that failed, and almost destroyed Stalvick's forces. They retreated, but were picked up by a rebel group who were wandering the Fahr Wasteland. This group was lead gby Litera, and contained several notable members as Eli, a inventor with a shady past, Paper, a former hero now in dire straits, and Amphy and Christopher, two sentient Pokemon who joined to gain wealth, and possible some technology to bring to their homeworld. Litera told Stalvick of a back route to the base, and asked only to join the X-Nauts. Stalvick approved, and formed the first Conscript regiment of the X-Nauts.
When they first reached Fahr, Eli and Paper disorganized the defenders, creating snow drifts that tore down the walls. Then, Amphy and Christopher came in with a double volt tackle, destroying the artillary that had destroyed the X-Nauts before, and disabling the base's power. Then, the X-Nauts came in, cleaning up the defenders. Stalvick then ordered Litera to take his men into the central building, and to secure it's databanks.
When they entered, Paper noted that the building was the Gadd Instillation, a famed military research station founded by Professor Elvin Gadd in his early years. They ran across a strange block, which Christopher activated. The block came to life, revealing itself to be Teen Angst, an information block captured by the SWD. Just then, several soldiers come in to engage them, and Amphy attempted to shock them. He missed, hitting a containment cell, activating it. Inside was a raptor named Ripvor, who killed the SWD troopers and offered his services as a mercenary to the X-Nauts. They agreed, and went on.
Before they reached the terminal, a Church Protectorate member named Sister Maya came to oppose them. The battle was long, and nearly resulted in defeat, but Eli came from behind, freezing her before Litera knocked her out with sleeping powder. Litera declared the place secure, and the X-Nauts quickly raided the computer terminal. Though they did not find any information on the whereabouts of the missing emerald, they found that Doctor Eggaman, famed Mobian scientist and villain, was the leading source on the emeralds. Stalvick ordered all of his forces back to the fleet before the rest of the SWDF came to investigate.
Chapter 2: The Renton Shipyards
The attack on Bowser's Castle had just begun by Mario, creating an international incident on Star World. Grodus made a pact with the Shroobs, and sent the bulk of his fleet to Star World to oversee his operations. However, he was worried about interferance from their massive fleet, as they lacked the manpower to take on fleet battles after Chronis. He ordered Stalvick to raid the SWD's primary base at the Renton Shipyards (a formerly secret location, but found when Fahr's databanks were raided) and stall the SWD while taking as many ships as they could. Grodus stated that the first of the Conscript's payment would be any ship they captured personally.
The attack began, where Eli crashed his transport into one of the docks, coming out to steal a Blade Class Cruiser. Upon liberating it, he gave it the name Sylloderriga Jet Mk V. Amphy and Ripvor landed on a nearby dock, where Ripvor destroyed the SWDF cannons while Amphy took care of the transport and it's tech crews. Amphy ran into a Federation Invasionary Transport, naming it EHUSGHVY26UJ79/:blunderface by the random letters he typed in the keypad, while Ripvor took a hidden Merciless Class Stealth Ship, naming it the Raptor. Nearby, the X-Nauts had taken command of a YSS Windfish, the largest vessel every produced in the Alliance of Worlds.
Paper and Litera both landed on a dock, but as they moved to the ship, a cannon bolt blasted apart the dock, almost propelling them into deep space. At the last second, Litera teleported Paper to a nearby Leviathan Battlecruiser. Paper thought it strange that Litera knew magic, but thought little of it, and named his Battlecruiser the Scientifically, Of Course. On another platform, Teen Angst and Christopher moved out, when Teen Angst was hit by sniper fire. Christopher first thought her dead, but then flipped a switch on her back, activating her. Teen Angst declared Christopher her boyfriend, much to his displeasure. Christopher raided a Tempest Class Drone Ship, naming it the Christopher's Fire. Teen Angst came into his ship, before Christopher ejected her into space. She floated into a small Setting Sun Class Vessel, which she named the Totally.
As all of the ships went to the rendezvous point, a large fleet of SWD ships came out of slipspace. This fleet was headed by Birdross, who ordered their surrender. Stalvick taunted him, and the space battle began. paper was hit by a blast from the Twilight of Hope, the SWD flagship, and was almost downed, when he pulled back. Eli and Christopher came in, defending Paper, but just then Christopher decided to hit the capitol ship. However, the ship was too much, and almost destroyed Christopher's Fire, when Teen Angst used her ship's dimensional recall to pull Christopher back. Amphy and Eli were all that were left of the Conscripts, and were pondering hitting the ship's Combo Cannon, when Ripvor's ship came out of nowhere, damaging the ship and destroying the Combo Cannon. Just as the Twilight of Hope was ready to open up it's other batteries, Stalvick's Defender of Heroes flanked the SWD fleet, destroying a bulk of their ships and forcing Birdross to retreat.
Stalvick took all remaining ships, and destroyed the shipyards that remained. Grodus then ordered the fleet to move to Mobius, in order to take what research Eggman had on the emeralds.
Chapter 3: The Secret of Mobius
While Stalvick moved to Mobius, Grodus had already raided Popstar and it's emerald. However, other factions had gotten in on the hunt, including The Yoshi Bodyguards, Cackletta and her allies, Popple, and Bowser. The greatest threat to Grodus, however, is Eggman, who had already claimed an emerald from Star World. Grodus sees Stalvick's raid on Mobius as a chance to catch Eggman off guard, and uncover any projects he may have to turn against him.
When they arrive, the X-Nauts find Mobius is under an invasion by the Metal Army and it's Zinc Legion. The Federation and GUN forces had been dispatched to quell the invasion, but the entire planet was in chaos. Litera states that the invasion is the perfect cover to invade Eggman's Scrap Brain Zone, one of his central manufacturing facilities. Ripvor, Eli, and Christopher are dispatched to the surface, but their transport is shot down by Metal Army raiders. They crash in the streets, and fight off waves of Metal Army soldiers.
Meanwhile, millions of light years away, Doctor Eggman takes notice of the Metal Army attack on his base. He decides to pull his forces back to a central structure, puts up a massive shield, and activates a secret weapon he had been working on in case of such an attack. The central structure activates, and sends out a signal, deactivating all Metal Army forces in the area.
Stalvick calls a meeting with Litera and Grodus, who discuss this new development. Litera suggests that if the SWDF or Galactic Federation got hold of the device, that the cover for their invasion would be blown. Stalvick disagrees, stating they should take the device and use it to disrupt any Metal Army operations that get in their way. Grodus agrees with Litera, and orders a second team into the center of the base to secure the area so the AI Disruptor could be safely dismantled.
Teen Angst and Amphy use the Totally to warp behind the energy shield, and move through a wave of Badniks to destroy the shield generator. Teen Angst accidentally uploads a virus in the computer terminal, which overloads the generator, destroying it. Later, Litera, Eli, and a group of X-Nauts run into the AI Disruptor, and clear it our, battling a Metal Shadow that defended the base's computer terminal. The terminal states that Eggman, too, does not know where the seventh emerald is, but a scientist named Tabbir Whirl did, and Eggman wanted his research. Litera calls for explosives, but is relived by a group of Elite X-Nauts under Stalvick, who say they will dismantle the Disruptor. The group pulls back, and discusses how to get a hold of Whirl.
Chapter 4: The Hunt for Whirl
As Grodus's crusade for the emerald continues, all factions step up their efforts to find all seven chaos emeralds. Recently, however, the Shroobs and the X-Nauts have broken their pact, depriving them of a good portion of their primary fleet.
Meanwhile, hidden above Mobius, the X-Nauts discuss how to capture Whirl. Stalvick states that they should first destroy the communication's terminal for the Federation, where all of their efforts are being coordinated. Litera and Eli, being the only humans, use captured Federation armor and a stolen dropship, and sneak into the communication terminal, first finding a transmission stating Whirl was in Station Square, the most defended location on the planet. Litera and Eli destroy the terminal, but just then, an air raid siren sounds. The two run to their transport, flying away just as a nuclear blast devastates the Federation position.
Back on the Defender of Heroes, Stalvick shows that it was the Metal Army who had used nuclear arms on the Federation base. Without their communication's network, they did not have the ability to counter the missiles. To make matters worse, they had twenty more prepared, many of them set on Station Square. Stalvick states that if Whirl dies, their operation is a failure. The remaining Federation forces and the GUN Defenders were planning a last ditch attack on the nukes, but the base's defenses were still up. He orders Ripvor, Paper, and Amphy to destroy their central shockwave air defense cannons before the attack begins.
When they reach the surface, the three fight through Metal lines, set up plasma charges, and destroy the cannons. Just as they leave, the Federation/GUN forces fly in, bombing the base and destroying the nukes before they could launch and detonate. This puts the Zinc Legion on the run, but Whirl is still hidden behind Federation lines.
Stalvick reviews some of the stolen transmissions, and locates the laboratory of Whirl. He searches for a mysterious item of importance to Whirl, one that required the Federation to keep the lab secret. Stalvick sends Teen Angst and Christopher to take the lab, where they find Whirl's female companion, Evelyn. Just as they were going to secure her, Metal Chaos appeared, disarming the X-Nauts and beating Christopher to submission. Christopher then notices an unarmed grenade that stuck in his back, and sent a thunderbolt at it, blowing Metal Chaos apart. Christopher then calls for Stalvick, saying he has Evelyn secure. Stalvick had her chained, and sent a message over her private communicator to Whirl: Come here alone with your research on the emeralds, or Evelyn dies.
Whirl came, meeting Stalvick and his fleet of ships. At first, the deal was going smoothly, despite Glerk's worry. Then, Stalvick EMPed Whirl's ship, promptly flanking him with a bigger force. He stated that Whirl would be captured, and awaited trial by Grodus. Just then, Coshi came in with a fleet of Yoshi Bodyguard ships. He had been sent to help against the Metal Army, but noticed the X-Nauts, and stalked their operations, intervening when he saw fit. He beat back the X-Nauts, using clone troopers to take Evelyn. As the Conscript's tried to get her back, Metal Chaos got in the way, allowing them to take her to their Pelican and back to Coshi's ship. When Whirl's group was safe, he used three Setting Sun Class Ships to teleport away. Stalvick demanded that they be tracked, and Whirl be taken.
Chapter 5: Revelation
While Stalvick tracked Whirl, Grodus was setting plans in motion to claim all six emeralds in one strike. He is pressed for time, and demands that Stalvick secure the seventh emerald. He tracks them to a unknown planet near Holocate, where a Yoshi Bodyguard base is set, as well as oddly dormant Metal Army forces. Grodus himself orders Litera and Stalvick to make sure the Metal Army don't interfere, while the Conscripts find the research, kill Coshi, and take Whirl and his group alive.
The conscripts drop in the middle of a battle between Metal and YB forces, where Eli teleports them back near the target. They infiltrate their way deep into the base, where Whirl was showing his research to Coshi. The Conscripts made it to the computer terminal, where they found the emerald to be on Alinos, in the middle of a large Metal Army fleet. Just as they were going to contact Grodus, Coshi came in, and a battle ensued. Half way through, sirens sounded, and Coshi disengaged from them. The data uploaded to Grodus, and Stalvick congratulated them, saying that the mission was a success. However, the success was cut short. Stalvick noticed that the entire Metal Army legion stationed on the planet had begun to attack from Litera's position, and yet Litera had moved his forces away. Stalvick contacted Litera, who stated he had seen no Metal forces in his area, and when ordered to move back into position, stated the signal was fading, and he would establish contact later. Stalvick ordered the Conscripts to evacuate the planet, and stated he had a personal matter to attend to.
The Conscripts moved through the base, which was being bombarded by Metal Army artillery soon after the transmition ended. They reached the rooftop, where they met Coshi, who was evacuating Whirl's group. Eli tried to attack him, but was shot by his gunblade, hitting his leg. This bought them enough time to lift off, and, after some risky flying, Coshi took Whirl to his flagship, the Great Panaj. Jet Gundam then took the ship out of orbit, and sped into hyperspace toward Star World.
In the meantime, the Conscripts fought off several Ariel Zaku Troopers before a dropshop, commanded by Litera, came down to pick them up, Oddly enough, no Metal Army forces opposed them as they regrouped with the remains of the fleet. Litera informed the Conscripts that Stalvick had betrayed them, and they had to regroup with Grodus. Eli was skeptical, but his injury prevented him from saying anything.
Chapter 6: Traitor's Hand
On Star World, Grodus defeated Eggman and Cackletta, gaining six of the seven emeralds. He was ready to return to the fleet, when every opposing faction ganged up on him in a last ditch effort to gain the emerald. Grodus activated the six of them he had, but it wasn't enough. Grodus was defeated, and the most of the Secret Society was captured by the SWDF, but Grodus returned to the remains of the fleet, who were escaping from the Distant Planet, looking for Stalvick.
Grodus tracked Stalvick's ships to Hylia's Moon, where a base camp had been set up. Grodus was willing to forgive Stalvick, until he found a recreated AI Disruptor, exactly like the one Stalvick was ordered to destroy on Mobius, on the moon's surface. Litera convinces Grodus to have him and the Conscripts raid the Disruptor and kill Stalvick.
The Conscripts arrive, setting down near the base of the Disruptor. They encounter no resistance until they actually entire the complex. X-Nauts loyal to Stalvick fight them back, and the Conscripts attempt to use stun weapons to move them aside. They find a computer terminal, and after fighting with the security systems, find the Magnus von Grapple bay as well as the location of Stalvick. When they reach the repair bay, they are forced to fight skill Grapple pilots, and are almost beaten, when Teen Angst's phone drops. Teen Angst goes into a violent rage, and destroys the enemy Grapples.
The group reaches Stalvick, when Litera tells them to stay back. He alone went in, and confronted Stalvick, shooting him in the side. In his dying breath, Stalvick contacts Grodus, telling him that Litera was the real traitor, and that he came to activate the one hope they had to finishing their operation. He asks Grodus to find the seventh emerald, and let his death go avenged. After he dies, Grodus attempts to find Litera, but cannot. However, as he searches, the reactor core on the Disruptor is set to overload.
The Conscripts and the remaining X-Nauts move through the Disruptor, when Metal Army forces randomly appear and breach the walls of the Disruptor, affirming Litera's connection with the Metal Army. After a long run, Paper reaches the override terminal, and shuts the core down. Grodus congratulates them, and tells them he will keep the Disruptor under guard. For now, they were to move out to Alinos.
Chapter 7: The Fist of Grodus
On Alinos, the Metal Army fleet was in chaos. The AI Disruptor had instantly deactivated 70% of their forces, causing entire supercarriers to plummet to the planet. Just then, Grodus's forces came in, and beat through the remaining fleet to reach the surface.
Grodus, aboard his new flagship, the Might of Grodus, consulted with TEC-X3 on the situation. He contacted each Conscript on their mission. Teen Angst and Ripvor were to destroy their turret arrays, Christopher and Amphy were to destroy their factory complex, and Eli and Paper were to destroy the shield generator around the main complex. Grodus informs them that their contract expires after this mission, and that they were free to go with his best wishes.
First to land were Teen Angst and Ripvor, who were pinned down by turrets made out of nano-bots. Try as they may, the turrets would not be destroyed, and reformed from any battle damage. Ripvor attempted to speed past them, vcarrying Teen Angst, but before they got to the Nanobot Nerve Center, a group of turrets prevented him from moving. Then, Teen Angst's ringtone sounded, temporarly destabilizing the turrets, and Ripvor made it to the Nerve Center with demolition. There, he found a strange computer, mentioning a powerful robot buried under the planet and an "Ultimate AI" they had taken the emerald to perfect. Ripvor thought nothing of it, and destroyed the Nerve center, disabling the first line of the bases defenses.
Second to land were Christopher and Amphy, who landed in the factory district, only to find all of the defenders disabled from the AI Disruptor. When investigating further, they accidently activated a power generator, awakening a massive Metal Army Champion named Sinanju. Amphy challenged him to a rock off, with Amphy and Christopher coming from behind to beat him. Sinanju renigged on his deal, and set to destroy them, but as he prepared to fire, X-Naut reinforcements came in and pounded him into scrap. When the dust settled, Christopher and Amphy both walked off, victorious.
Last to land were Eli and Paper, set to destroy the shield surrounding the central base, when they encountered resistance from Doctor Albert. He ripped off the necklace from Eli's neck, which caused him to pass out into a seizure-like state. While Paper and Doctor Albert fought, Eli transformed into a strange demon, who called himself Garzon. Garzon destroyed the generator, and forced Doctor Albert to retreat. Just as he was about to beat Paper, Paper called in an airstrike on Garzon, stunning him long enough to put the necklace around him. Garzon changed shape again, this time into a being named Rasuke, who explained that Eli, Garzon, and him inhabited the same being. The necklace imprisoned both Rasuke and Garzon, keeping Eli stable. Rasuke then warned Paper that what they're doing was wrong, and would cause great calamity to their universe. Just then, Eli regained control, and the two moved on, heading toward the central base that was now open to attack.
Meanwhile, Ripvor and Teen Angst waded their way through the streets, defeating several Gouf Ranger snipers who had the southern approach pinned down. Christopher and Amphy approached from the west, and used a double volt tackle to break through the trench lines. Both of them collapsed in front of the central black pyramid. Eli and Paper came from the east, beating Metal Army forces through the streets of the city.
Eventually, they all met at a massive black pyramid that made up the central base. All around it, Steel Legion Champions stood. The Conscripts fought hard, but could not get through the Champions. As they were about to be defeated, Grodus arrived in the Magnus von Tyrant and a platoon of X-Naut Elites. The Steel Legion Champions were defeated, and Grodus took the citadel in his name.
What they found, however, was greater than Grodus dreamed. The emerald was being used to power a massive supercomputer, one unparalleled to any in the known universe. It could take control of Metal Army forces, and coordinate assaults perfectly. The dilluted signal and the strong signature masking equipment prevented the AI or the emerald from being found. Grodus pondered this, when he was told Metal forces were massing outside teh citadel.
The X-Nauts formed up, but the two factions did not engage eachother. Doctor Albert and Litera first moved foward, meeting Grodus. Grodus exchanged insults with Litera, before Litera revealed himself to be the reformed Cosmic Subsourian, made an android by Metal Army technology. However, he spoke of another greater leader, and a robot named Omega stepped foward, greeting Grodus, and stating he was heir to the Metal throne. He said that, when Grodus least expected it, he would take back the Ultimate AI and destroy the AI Disruptor. Then, the Litera opened a portal away, and Doctor Albert, Litera, and Omega stepped through, but not before Omega quipped to Grodus that Stalvick was twice the man he was, and he was glad Grodus saved him the trouble of killing him. The two factions then fought, the remaining Metal Army forces being grossly outnumbered, but Grodus returned to his throne, content on his victory.
Epilouge: The Rise of the X-Nauts
The story ended with Grodus sitting in the massive citadel, next to the central computer. The AI itself was being fused with TEC-X3, allowing Grodus to control it. As TEC-X3 accessed it's systems, the base began to rise from the ground, forming into the mighty Citadel of Ultima. As the citadel rose, the defeated Metal Army soldiers rose again, serving under the control of the AI.
Meanwhile, the discharged Conscripts were flying off from Alinos in their new ships. Eli headed for Star World, seeking to find the Yoshi Bodyguards. Christopher and Amphy headed to Pokeworld to sell what arms they had gained from the battle, and eventually headed to Star World as well. Teen Angst tried to follow Christopher, but ended up causing a temporal rift that threw her through a gap in time and space. Ripvor drifted off to Rareworld, leaving the X-Nauts in order to find out what happened to his tribe. Paper decided just to drift off into space, going wherever he may end up.
The story ended with TEC-X3 finishing a download of files on the last TEC models. However, upon finding TEC-XX's file, he encountered an error. A swift recovery of files resumed the download with no visible issue, but then TEC-X3 uttered the name "Princess Peach."
