Gruntilda Winkybunion is the main antagonist in the Banjo-Kazooie series. She has appeared in every game to date, and in this author's opinion, is one of the greatest video game antagonists there are. Her nickname is Grunty and she often rhymes with everything she says, with the exception of during the game Banjo-Tooie, in which she stopped for a time. She is shown as ugly, disgusting, and just plain unpleasant.

History (in the timeline for this Wiki)
After the Games
Depending on what events occur in the next Banjo-Kazooie game, if there is one, Grunty eventually escaped LOG's video game factory. Soon after, she encountered Fawful, who had came to Rareworld attempting to open a portal to the spirit world and rescue his former master, Cackletta. After meeting up with him, Grunty and Fawful eventually decided to work together and bring Cackletta back. Soon after, Fawful built Cackletta a new robotic body, and the three of them plotted to take revenge on the ones who had wronged them--Banjo and Kazooie for Grunty, and Mario and Luigi for Cackletta and Fawful.
The Yoshi Bodyguards
First Encounter
The three of them defeated and kidnapped Banjo and Kazooie, then went to Star World to kidnap Mario and Luigi. Once they did, however, the Yoshi Bodyguards appeared out of nowhere and attacked them, rescuing Banjo, Kazooie, Mario and Luigi and destroying their new base. At this, they were enraged, but didn't do anything else for a while until Cackletta was able to gain powerful new dark magic, and with this she was able to reskin Grunty and give her a brand new body.
Eventually, the three of the joined a group of villains called FOEA, which also included King Boo, Missingno., Dark Matter, Sandbag, and Dark Top. Later, Metal Top would join. During the Dark Ages, however, Grunty's old lair was accidently destroyed; later, around the end of the Dark Ages, FOEA split apart. Cackletta, Fawful and Grunty remained together, however, now at Cauldron Keep.
A few months later, Fawful came in with a shard of the Star Rod he had found at Star World. The YB showed up soon after, though, defeating them and taking the Star Rod shard.
Stop 'n' Swop
At one point, the Witchy Fury Trio obtained the legendary Stop 'n' Swop Ice Key; not long after, however, the YB came and stole it. When they did, the WFT kidnapped Top and were able to use a dark demon to give Dark Top control. Although they attempted to reform FOEA, the YB thwarted their plan.
Later, they found out where the YB had used the Ice Key--the Crystal Palace--and used that information to unlock the 6 SNS eggs. The YB were able to get the eggs instead, but when it appeared the secret was a washout, WFT took the eggs while the YB weren't looking and with Grunty's knowledge of the eggs' powers, they began to collect other items throughout the universe: The Star Rod, the Master Emerald, and the Magic Paintbrush. With these items, they were able to take control of everyone on Star World. Grunty then returned to Rareworld to steal the Crystal Jiggy so that they could use the items to control other planets, but they were defeated by some YBs and former YBs.
Topmonhit Story
Comic Appearances
When WFT tried to bring FOEA back together, they took some of Dark Top's DNA. With that DNA, they were able to create a Fake Top, or Tihnompot, and used that to frame Top and put him in jail. They then used a hypno beam to take control of Princess Peach, but Top escaped jail and with the help of his friends, were able to get into the castle. Grunty tried to stop them with a quiz, but she didn't succeed, and in the end their plan failed.
Later, they found a Chaos Emerald on Rareworld, and used that to create fake medicine that was really a mind-control liquid. Grunty used the Hag 2's space-traveling ability to get another Chaos Emerald on Hylia, but while she was returning to Star World, [[Grodus appeared and attacked her, absorbing her and her powers into his staff. In the end, though, Grodus was defeated, freeing her and everyone else Grodus had kidnapped. Grunty returned to Cauldron Keep with Cackletta and Fawful to work on a new plan... until they decided to take a vacation.
Non-Canon Appearances
Nintendo Anecdote 3: Not Really a Trilogy
In Nintendo Anecdote 3, Gruntilda appeared when all 6 Grand Stars had been collected and the Grand Star Painting had been destroyed, revealing a giant empty puzzleboard. She appeared, explaining that the next objective was to locate 20 Jiggies. Once they were located, however, she returned along with Cackletta and Fawful and a quiz occured. In the end, they were defeated and the door to Act 3 was opened.
Banjo-Kirbooie
In Banjo-Kirbooie, Grunty was still at LOG's video game factory when she noticed a door that said "DO NOT ENTER". She of course entered anyway, and found herself in a whole new world. She built new Gruntbots and reshaped a mountainside into her head for a new lair, and then began to cause chaos. Kirby, Fumu and Bun attempted to stop her, but they were blasted out of the sky and Grunty used a magic spell to make Kirby evil. Therefore, King Dedede went to Mt. Grunty and defeated Kirby, after which he knocked him into Grunty, causing her skull to fall out of the robo-suit and off the mountain.
Trivia
- The original backstory involved Grunty, still a skull, encountering Fawful and then Fawful built her a robo-suit. With Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, however, Topmonhit changed the story so that she escaped and had the robo-suit from BKNB at first.
