This is simple... While out and about, sometimes we see cool technology in use. Instead of passing it by, why not explore it a little? In doing so, why not take some pictures, ask people what it's all about, find information online, and all of that.

Nothing much really, if anyone see's something cool, and decides to take some notes down, photograph it, do a little research, why not post it up for others to see. Really what this is, is just some more content to generate. I don't expect any participation, seeming how this is rediculous, but if you're interested in adding to this, do so. If you need help, ask me.

Not really... This is yet another distraction from responsibility for me. Take what you like from this, perhaps it will inspire you to go looking for cool technology in plain sight. Otherwise, this is yet another one of my pointless additions to this site.

This was found while we went driving around with a simple analog video receiver. This device had a few thousand feet range and overlooks a back lot to an apartment complex, specifically the garbage dump and car lot.

I didn't really have much time to mess with these suckers. I made one call to the states on it, and that's about it. These particular phones where in Frontier Land. If memory serves me correctly, one phone was Local for Japanese calls only, and the other was for International calls. I can't remember exactly, and could be wrong.

I usually take the Amtrak down to Orange County when I don't feel like sitting in southern California traffic. I always liked the train. In the Cafe Car, there is one phone, which is quite noticeable. I never really got a chance to really explore it, seeming how there is always an employee close by watching me close.

I didn't get much of a chance to look too deeply into these systems, the employee who let me look at this stuff did give some information as to what the system does. But there really isn't much to it, just another point of sale system. The only thing that caught my eye was the dumb terminals.

Here are some notes that my buddy W32.Noob.Worm added to the mix:

The Pizza Huts around hear run on SCO-UNIX for the FMS (field management system your picture pizzahut00.jpg) which controls start/end of day,the orders on the terminals and a variety of other back office functions. They are standardized on Dell gx260 or 270's, they have a mirrored 80BG array, a perle card and if I remember right 512 MB RAM. Supported by Wincor-Nixdorf,GMBH.

I have never seen any that run Linux, maybe out there in California, but I'd be surprised. SCO kinda has them locked in. Perhaps there is a difference between the franchisees and the corporate sites. I only service the franchisees.

The QSR (can't remember the acronym) runs Windows 2000 professional,on a Beetle/s manufactured and supported by Wincor-Nixdorf (they are really easy to work on,but they are notorious for issues with heat and the primary ide controller,and the Toshiba hdd's laptop hdd's btw)

Pizza Hut is a wholly owned subsidiary of YUM,Inc. or Yum foods.

They also own Pepsi, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King and a few others.

They use Cisco 2950 switches, Bektel line sharing processors and a couple other items. I have their base images,as well as all their cold spare hardware in climate controlled storage off site. The only thing I don't keep is the touch screens, which interestingly enough aren't at the site you photographed at all.

Apparently the MTA employee who was present at the time had quite a bit of information, even mentioned that it was running Windows XP. The busses themselves emit an 802.11 wireless signal which will be examined further at a later time. Each bus also has monitors with local news information and weather statistics in both English and Spanish. How convenient.

I found this back in high school, I don't know where I dug up these pictures. The device has weather proof casing and an ~800MHz (approximate) band antenna under it. I've heard plenty of wild ideas about what this does, however nobody can come up with an absolute answer. I have seen devices such as this on many light poles before, this one was the only one that really caught my attention because of its size and disputed function.

This is found every few hundred feet whenever there is optical cable underground. It basically says that if you start digging around the area, you may cut off emergency phone systems (not to mention the rest of the trunk), and warranted as a criminal activity.

I found this back in high school, I don't know where I dug up these pictures. The device has weather proof casing and an ~800MHz (approximate) band antenna under it. I've heard plenty of wild ideas about what this does, however nobody can come up with an absolute answer. I have seen devices such as this on many light poles before, this one was the only one that really caught my attention because of its size and disputed function.

This is found every few hundred feet whenever there is optical cable underground. It basically says that if you start digging around the area, you may cut off emergency phone systems (not to mention the rest of the trunk), and warranted as a criminal activity.

This is simple... While out and about, sometimes we see cool technology in use. Instead of passing it by, why not explore it a little? In doing so, why not take some pictures, ask people what it's all about, find information online, and all of that.

===What's to expect?===

Nothing much really, if anyone see's something cool, and decides to take some notes down, photograph it, do a little research, why not post it up for others to see. Really what this is, is just some more content to generate. I don't expect any participation, seeming how this is rediculous, but if you're interested in adding to this, do so. If you need help, ask me.

===Should you care?===

Not really... This is yet another distraction from responsibility for me. Take what you like from this, perhaps it will inspire you to go looking for cool technology in plain sight. Otherwise, this is yet another one of my pointless additions to this site.

No laws where broken while acquiring any of this data... hopefully.
