An Ecoregion is an [[Ecological Region]] where ecosystems are generally similar.  The [[EPA]] defines ecoregions at 4 different levels of coarseness, 1 being the most general and 4 being most precise.  Regions are defined by "biotic and abiotic phenomena that affect or reflect differences in ecosystem quality and integrity".  Efforts to define ecosystems of the US with level 4 precision are not yet complete.
