Monday 12th October

  • Staines Moor: BROWN SHRIKE still present in hawthorns 100m NE of concrete bridge over the River Colne at 18:26hrs, original ID was Red-backed Shrike but corrected by Chris Heard on structural features. In same area since sunday 11th October - north end of of the moor c200 yards NW/NE of the Northern concrete bridge over the River Colne at TQ028731. Park at the South end of Hithermoor Lane and walk South along public footpath signposted to Staines adjacent to West side of King George VI res. Take footpath West at first metal swing gate to board walk and cross wooden bridge. Follow River Colne footpath West for 200 yards to first concrete bridge (RBA/Birdguides etc) - photographs now on Surfbirds/Birdguides; also Dartford Warbler still, at N end of moor in isolated bushes 150 yards SE of the concrete bridge over the River Colne; also Barn Owl at dusk (J. Murray, B. Watts & F. Maroevic).
  • Rainham RSPB: Marsh Harrier west at 1022hrs; 6 (presumed Lesser) Redpoll; 4 Stonechat; 3+ Cetti's Warbler; 3+ Rock Pipit; 3 Buzzard circling overhead; 2 Sparrowhawk; 2+ Kestrel; 1+ Water Rail; 7+ Chiffchaff; 1 Blackcap; escaped Diamond Dove around feeders; 1 Golden Plover Aveley Bay; c15 Snipe; Kingfisher.
