Elias M. Briggs Founder of Springfield

Elias was born in Floyd County, Kentucky to Isaac and Elizabeth "Betsey" Briggs in 1824 and was the only child. The three moved to Schuyler County, Illinois by 1830, and in 1840 he was in Iowa Territory and in 1846 was in Lee Co., Iowa. Elias married Mary Johnson on May 18 1848 in Daviess Co., Missouri.
