Lorane's economy was once based on logging and fruit orchards. The first postmaster named the town after his favorite niece in [[1887]]. According to Harold Avery Minter in Umpqua Valley, Oregon and its Pioneers (page 42), this was the original route of the Applegate Trail.

The church was established in [[1889]], and the building was constructed in [[1892]]. Like many others, it died at some point and was resurrected, this time with strength to keep going. The building still stands, with sections, including a front entryway, added since the original construction.
