New page

WILLIAM C. COFFMAN is one of the highly respected residents of Golden. He was born in Fulton county, Illinois, October 29, 1837, and is the son of Augustus and Margaret (Cozby) Coffman, the former a native of Virginia and the latter of Blunt county, Alabama. Augustus Coffman emigrated to Oregon in [[1853]], crossing the great American desert with ox teams and made his first settlement in Benton county, Oregon. He remained on the place of his first location for eighteen months and then removed to California where he resided for one year during which time occurred the death of Mrs. Coffman. He then returned to Benton county, Oregon, and there continued to live until 1859 and then removed to Douglas county, where he engaged in the cattle business and continued to live until the time of his death which occurred in 1875, at [[Eugene]], Oregon. William C. Coffman was reared in his father's home and received his early education in the public schools of the district in which he lived.
