I am 57 and live in SW Essex and, although I have always had an interest in birds, I actually only started keeping a list in September last year so to that extent, I guess I am a "newbie". A lot of common birds will be "lifers" for me this year :-)
My "local" patch is the Fishers Green area but I also visit Amwell, Rye Meads and Epping Forest. I also visit friends in Powys regularly which is good for Red Kites and the odd Raven!
