  • Stoke Newington Reservoirs: early a.m. feeding flock including 2 Garden Warblers, 5 Blackcaps & 18 Long-tailed Tits; 3 Common Terns, 34 Shoveler, 20 Pochard, 8 Gadwall, 45+ Tufted Duck, 5 Ruddy Duck, 40 Black-headed Gulls, 3 Herring Gulls, 12 Lesser-black backs, 1 Swallow, 1 Sand Martin, 10 Swifts (major clear out over last few days in N16), 1 juv Willow Warbler, 8 Reed Warblers, 20 Goldfinches, family of Grey Wags (Mark Pearson & Tony Butler)

  • Lake Farm CP, Hayes: Hobby, Sparrowhawk and 3 Kestrels, 15 Common Whitethroats, 8 Blackcaps and 5 Willow Warblers (Peter Naylor).

  • Dagenham Chase LNR:Juvenile Cuckoo in a bush being dive bombed by an Adult Common Tern, also 1 Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Garden Warbler. ( Vince Halley-Frame ).
  • Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens: 7 Grey Heron, c.10 Goldfinch + c.10 Greenfinch (mixed flock with plenty of juvs), 2 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Dunnock, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Treecreeper.

  • Walthamstow Res: 2 ruddy Duck & 223 Tufted Duck on No.5 res. Peregrine (prob ad. M.) still (I expect it has moved since last wednesday) sat on pylon at bottom of No.2 res. (Paul Whiteman)

  • Tottenham Marshes: Whinchat on Clendish Marsh, 6 Little Egrets in channel north of Lockwood Res (Pete Lambert).
  • East India Dock: Grey Wagtail, 2 juv Pied Wagtail, 2 LRP, 2+ Sand Martin, 4 Common Tern, 10 Canada Goose, Heron, Tuftie brood of 4, Mallard brood of 4, 5 Goldfinch (Richard Harrison).

  • Rainham Marshes RSPB: Hobby, 2 juv/imm Wheatears, Gbbgull, 2 Oystercatchers, Stonechat, 10+ Teal, and up to 6 distant probable YLGulls Thameside. Also, 9 Whimbrel, 8 Greenshanks, 2 Common Sands, Black-tailed Godwit reported by other, luckier souls. Best sighting was of a probable Serotine or Leisler's Bat hawking along one of the ditches at 1230! Description sent in to local recorder... (David Callahan); also, 3 Green Sands, Whinchat (Paul Hawkins).
  • East India Dock NR: LRP, Sand Martin, 6 Common Tern (Paul Hyland).
  • Thames at Limehouse. Peregrine heading East @ 6pm (Paul Hyland).
  • Osterley Park: Hobby 2 juvs (Keith Fisher).
  • Abney Park Cemetery: Coal Tit, 2 House Martins (Mark Pearson).
  • Paddington Green: Common Buzzard south at 10.23hrs, probable Hobby (bit too distant), 20+ Swift, 2-3 Sand Martin, 20+ House Martin (Des McKenzie, Nick Tanner).
  • Dagenham Chase: 1 Greenshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 4 Common Terns, 1 Hobby. (Paul Hawkins). Also Male Common Restart again 5.20-6.30 pm at least by Dick Marrable bee garden ( Vince Halley-Frame ).
  • Barking Outfall: early a.m, high tide: 12 Common Sandpipers, 6 Oystercatchers, 40 Swifts south, 2 Teal, Grey Wagtail and 3 Common Terns (Dave Morrison).
  • Dagenham Riverside: Common Sandpiper, Kingfisher, 2 Oystercatchers and 2 Common Terns (Dave Morrison).

  • Amwell GPs: juvenile Common Redstart at south end of towpath; also Black-tailed Godwit briefly also 2 Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper and Hobby (Birdguides)
  • Staines Moor: 3 Whinchats, 1 adult and 2 juvs in South West corner near motorway (John Murray).
  • Crossness: 3 Yellow-legged Gulls (2 ads, juv), 2 Green Sandpipers, 4 Common Sandpipers, 58 Lapwings, 1 Shoveler, 5 Teal, 9 Gadwall, 1 Common Tern (John Archer).
  • Brent Reservoir: Green Sand & juv. Yellow-legged Gull (Andrew Self).
  • Rainham RSPB: 7+ Greenshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Whimbrel, c25 Teal, 5 Shoveler, 8 Little Egret, 15 Common Terns (flew upriver) no sign of Spoonbill early morning (Paul Hawkins, David Bradnum).

  • Clissold Park: adult Common Gull, 1 Blackcap, 4 Little Grebes (Mark Pearson)
  • Dagenham Chase: 1 Greenshank, 1 Greensandpiper, 3 Common Terns, 2 Teal (Paul Hawkins, Vince Halley-Frame).
  • Alexandra Park: Garden Warbler, first for the year! This brings the Park's yearly total to 102 (Andrew Gardener).

August 2 2007

  • Walthamstow Res: 2 Little Egrets & 10 Common Sandpipers on Lockwood, 3 L.Whitethroats in near by scrub (J. Murray & C. Freddi); also ad Peregrine over Banbury Res, pm (David Callahan).
  • Rainham Marshes RSPB: juvenile Marsh Harrier (Birdguides).
  • Brent Reservoir: Oystercatcher flew over calling at 06.09 (Andrew Self).

  • Wood Green (Clarendon Road): Common Tern over at 13.15hrs (Des McKenzie).
  • East India Dock Basin NR: 2 LRP, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Common Gulls, 1 brood Tufted Duck (4 Chicks), 1 Stock Dove, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Willow Warbler, 1 Chiffchaff (Gary A James).
  • Dagenham Chase LNR: Moulting Male Common Redstart again on the Dick Marrable bee garden fence at 5.20 pm. Also 4 Green Sandpipers, 1 Greenshank and 1 Grey Wagtail on the Slack ( Vince Halley-Frame ).
  • Crossness: juv Yellow-legged Gull, 20+ Common Terns, 29 Lapwings, 3 Common Sandpipers, 2 Oystercatchers, 4 Swallows, 4 Sand Martins, 20 House Martins, 3 Teal (John Archer).
  • Paddington Green Area: local Herring Gull colony produced a total of seven young, all now on the wing, no young from Lesser Black-backed Gull pair (Des McKenzie).

  • Walthamstow Res: 178 Tufted Duck on No.5 res. Peregrine (prob ad. M.) sat on pylon at bottom of No.2 res. (Paul Whiteman)
  • Rainham Marshes RSPB: Spoonbill, also 2 juvenile Marsh Harriers flew through (Birdguides).
  • East India Dock Basin: at least one pair of Sand Martin confirmed as having bred in drainage hole (Nick Tanner per DMc).
  • East India Dock NR: 1 little Ringed Plover feeding on edge of smaller island 12:30(MGoodall)

  • Walthamstow Marshes: c50 Goldfinches, 4 Reed Buntings & 10 Linnets in one flock (growing by the day presently), 7 Common Whitethroats, 2 Blackcaps, c35 House Martins, 2 Common Terns, c200 Swifts; re: resourceful Sand Martins - two (possibly three) pairs successfully bred in drainage pipes on the canal by the southern bridge (Mark Pearson).
  • Geldeston Rd (near Stoke Newington Common): 1 Swallow north, 2 Holly Blues in the garden (Mark Pearson).
  • Dagenham Chase LNR: 1 Garden Warbler, 5 Lesser Whitethroats, 3 Green Sandpipers, 1 Greenshank and 5 Shoveler. No sign of Male Redstart today. ( Vince Halley-Frame ).
  • Regents Park: Pied Flycatcher, Sedge Warbler, 2 Willow Warbler, 3 Chiffchaffs, 6 Blackcaps, 2juv Reed Warblers, 28 Goldfinches, 2 Common Terns (Tony Duckett).
