What is the minimum colonization force possible?

The only minimum is that you '''need '''a colo ship, and the main house complete knocked down.

*During the colo attack if more than 50% of your troops are killed, your colony ship will be lost. Since colony ships are expensive ensure that the majority, if not all the defenders, are destroyed before your colony ship attack arrives.

*When you first log on you must level up your main house to level 1 immediately.
*Make gold mine, lumber mill, stone quarry to level 15 each so not to use all the space up, Leveling the store house as you need.
*Make your store house to level 15.
*Make your main house to level 10.
*Make your lab to level 10
*Research sail (1), spear (1), shield (1). At the same time make your barracks level 5, Your harbor level 5.
*Make your stone wall level 10
*Make 150 spear men.
*Make 5 merchant ships.
*Make 30 Warships.
*Make harbor level 10.
*Use all remaining space on watch tower or on whatever you wish.
*Build 30 stone throwers to drop on your second island.
*Build a Colonization ship.

They are the first steps you may want to build your army larger before you build the colonization ship but it is up to you. If you are in an alliance it is always good to have some spare stone throwers to give to your alliance members in need.

This page aims to act as a guide to the first steps you may want to take on the way to glory in '''Inselkampf'''. You may also want familiarise yourself with the game overview at [[Inselkampf]].

==What to expand first?==
This is a good question. Starting by building and upgrading your [[Gold Mine | gold mine]], [[Stone Quarry | stone quarry]], and [[Lumber Mill | lumber mill]] is a widely advocated strategy. This will allow you to increase the rate of production of your resources and allow you to build other items more quickly. At some point, you should build a [[Stone Wall | stone wall]] and upgrade your [[Main House | main house]]; however, you typically have a period of time in the beginning to build up your resources before you need to worry about others [[Attacking | attacking]] and plundering your island (as you usually are surrounded by other new players initially and attacking new players is generally frowned upon). After this, there are many strategies that can be effective.

==Building strategy==
A new island requires lots of stone, a resource which later on will be largely worthless. New players are advised to seek an [[Alliance|alliance]] and politely request stone from their alliance mates, who are likely to be happy to oblige.

The key to rapid development is building up the resource buildings, although you will need to build up the [[Storehouse]] periodically. You may also want to build a few levels of [[Stone Wall|stone wall]] and [[Watch Tower|watchtower]].

Whether you acquire further resources through means of warfare, trade or simply by a further expansion of an existing building is entirely up to you.

It will take many weeks to get to the stage when a new player can consider [[Colonisation]] colonising islands.

Almost everything in IK uses a factor of 1.2.
* Each mine level produces 1.2 times the previous one
* Each building level costs 1.2 times the last one
* Each storehouse level can hold 1.2 times the previous level

The watch-tower looms far above your island and warns you of foreign ships approaching your [[island]]. The more it is expanded, the better the visibility will be. Without a watch-tower, the visibility is one nautical mile.

The seed calculation used is: Visibility = 1.2level

==Protection Against Espionage==
The watch-tower provides some defence against [[espionage]], and will alert you of approaching [[ships]]. If an espionage fails you will see a red bar against the isle attempted upon and the origin of the spy.

There is now strong evidence to suggest that a level 20 watch-tower gives you a 38% chance of detecting an espionage attempt, and no tower provides a 1% chance. This is based upon views and experiments of German and .co.uk players.

Colonization

Colonies are the aim of the game. For a player to expand they must colonise islands.

A player can colonise any island as long as:

* It is not the ONLY island of a player
* The main house is at Level 1
* There are no [[troops]] on the island

In the [[.com]] version of [[Inselkampf]] any [[island]] of any player can be colonised if it is not their only island. The player needs to send a [[Colonisation_Ship|colonisation ship]] at the target island, set to 'attack' mode. The player should not send the ship unaccompanied, as all troops on the island need to be dead if colonisation is to be successful. The main house must be knocked down to Level 1 in order for the colonisation to be successful.

Even if the troops are dead and the house is at Level 1 there is still only a 50% chance of a successful colonization. If the colonisation is succesful your ship will be destroyed. If the colonisation fails, your ship will return; unless it is destroyed in battle.
