They fell in love while his father was in a human form, and soon married. About a month after Drayco was born, a red dragon who had some vendetta against his father came to kill him and his wife. Drayco's father changed back into his natural form, and did battle with the red. The red was a superior fighter, however, and dealt a mortal blow to Drayco's father. However, his mother then cast a spell so powerful it took her own life force to cast it, which annihilated the red. With what strength she had left, she cast a teleportation spell to take her and the newborn Drayco to the lair of her husband's brother, the brass dragon artificer Tobiastrix. She gave Drayco over to him, and then finally died.
