On of the two Demonic Gopher dreadnoughts currently present in Mayhem.

Appearance & Structure

The Centipede actually does bear considerable resemblance to its namesake. Two jaw-like sections curve out from the front of the ship, and it is divided into five distinct segments, although they are not articulated. There would have been more segments, but depicting an entire centipede would have made the ship thinner for its length than the Demonic Gophers wanted. Two ultra-heavy Levin Gun turrets take the place of the centipede's eyes.

Like other DG dreadnoughts, the Centipede is best described as "excessively large". Built primarily with a combination of several high grade science fiction metals, it has a distinctly angular appearance, and a triangular cross section along most of its length.

AI

The personality currently inhabiting the Centipede's computer is relatively new to the job, having been given control of the dreadnought when its predecessor retired seven years ago.

Power

  • Storage:

The Centipede has an energy storage core which achieves, through unspecified methods, a very high energy density. It carries enough energy to keep the ship running under peak usage (full combat conditions, with weapons firing continuously) for slightly more than two hours.

  • Primary Generation System:

Under ordinary circumstances, the dreadnought gets most of its power from an extensive collection of heavily improved spherical tokamak fusion reactors, running on hydrogen fuel. When not in battle, or using higher than normal power for some other reason, the Centipede can recharge its power core from 50% in roughly six hours.

  • Emergency Generation System:

If the charge of the power core falls significantly below 50%, the ship will resort to a mass annihilation chamber for extra power. This is capable of charging the core even in the midst of an intense battle, although only slowly under such conditions. It can run on any form of conventional matter, including enemy warships that blunder within the grasp of the hungry Centipede.

  • Heat Absorption System:

Excess heat is converted into a usable form and sent to the energy storage core by a network of counter-entropic heat absorption generators. This brings waste heat back into the system, and can even help protect against thermal weapons.
