Pregnant is a special female-only trait which signifies that a female is with child.

In order to erm, "acquire" it, a female must be married to a husband and both of them together must have a high enough fertility rating to produce a child. Note to Roman Polanski- only females of at least 16 years of age can be wed.

It doesn't matter where the husband or the wife are- the wife can be ruling Ireland while the husband is off in the Middle East leading his troops and they'll still produce a child.

Pregnancy is shown by a picture of a stork delivering a child on the character's portrait. If you choose to assassinate a female ruler you should make sure to never do so while they're pregnant.

Also, certain events exist in which a male ruler or courtier can sleep with a random wench and produce a bastard child. This child automatically has the culture of his father, ignoring both the capital culture and the wench's culture. Oddly enough the bastard child is produced immediately. For all intents and purposes, this means that the wench event, when chosen, takes place about 9 months prior to when it's selected.
