There are over 90 character traits in Crusader Kings (at least with the addition of DV 2.1beta and DVIP). These traits are what shape each character and play a large part in governing how they interact with each other.

How Traits Work

Each trait will influence how others perceive that character, as well as influencing how that character sees others. For instance, a Cruel character will have a negative view of a character with the Merciful trait, and vice versa. Additionally, most traits modify a user's stats.

Each trait also has one (occasionally, two) opposites, referred to as its Antithesis. These traits "erase" their opposite if gained. Example: A character starts with Trusting and Merciful. Through an event, he gains the Cruel trait. Cruel and Merciful are antitheses of each other, so the character now has Trusting and Cruel. Since Trusting is not an antithesis, it is not affected.

Additionally, while not represented as a character trait in the same way, Pregnant is an important condition that female characters can have.
