You finish the kitchen with little mishap. You have a cut on your thumb from breaking some glass, but that isn't enough to worry you. You start on the living room, which is more difficult. You sit down and rest a second. Smashing furniture is harder than you thought it was. You hear the Dursley's car. Either they got back earlier than planned or you lost track of time. Either way, you need to do something now. Like right now, you can hear the knob turning.
