Keep ignoring the voice

You just keep walking, knowing that your back is towards whatever enemy lurks in the shadows. Then suddenly, you see a gap in the trees, and daylight. You turn to look back, and see nothing but the forest. The threat, whatever it was, has evaporated into thin air...
"I could have died," Jann murmurs.
"Pity," you reply, and continue on. You continue along the path and around the side of a hill.
"How much longer do you think we'll be travelling today?" the Minimite on your shoulder asks. "I'm hungry and tired. We've gone such a long way."
"Not much further," you assure her. The Minimite sighs and slumps onto your shoulder. "But you can stop here."
"You'd like that, I'm sure you would," she complains.
You come upon a wooden hut set into the slope, with an old woman sitting on the front step. A river seems to emerge from beneath her; as you get closer, you realise the water flows underneath her house, and the house itself is set on splayed struts like an insect, straddling the water-course.
A few paces from the front of the house, the water plunges over the edge of a sheer cliff and disappears. The old woman looks up and waves. "Come over her, won't you?" she calls. "I can barely see you."
